I, like many people think swords are the coolest SnS weapons.

There's a problem with swords in this game though... They have the same damage number as maces and axes but their swing animation is quite a bit slower. This results in a lower autoattack DPS as is shown on the weapon statistics.

Can this be patched? Maybe give swords a slightly higher damage number and still leaving them less auto DPS for more effective skill use? I'd think this would be a lot easier fix than changing their animation while at the same time giving people more options for their style of SnS use.

Personally I'm appreciate of it. I don't really like swords. They're long and stick out behind the character, looking especially odd on dwarves (my favourite) and elves (they're so slender). A good axe interrupts the silhouette less.

That said, even if they did modify damage I suspect I'd still use axes. I just wish they made more unique/rare axes instead of them being mostly swords and sometimes mauls.

I solely use swords with my Inq (because he's the big dog) and allow maces, axes to be used by Cass and Blackwall. Didn't realise that the animation was slower... Only about 15 hours in and fortunately got an awesome sword early on so it hasn't been a factor yet. For some reason axes and maces don't appeal to me as much.

Classically, if the Dragon age: Origins mechanics is still in effect in DA:I...

Axes are effective against organic opponents, but are weak against armored enemies.

MAces do more damage to armored enemies, but are less effective with organic (or not armored) enemies

Swords are a balance between the two

As for speed, i dunno if its really slower.. might be a side effect for the balance..

Not sure.. but previously, this was the case.
