Which is better for getting gear and xp? No perilous and extract™ please. My buddies and I are not on that level yet.
Perilous for XP, Threatening for gold. Finishing Perilous gives around 1.2~1.5k gold in my experience while finishing Threatening gives around 900~1.1k gold. Skipping 5/5 on Perilous would give you 100 less gold but considering that it's much faster to run through Threatening if you don't have top end gear, then it's probably the better choice when it comes to gold farming.
