What is wrong with this game?

Now I got the DirectX Mantle error screen popup and the game crashed…….. :(

Mantle function

"grWsiWinReleaseFullscreenOwnership(displayHandle)" failed with GR_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST. GPU: "AMD Radeon R9 200 Series" (26544) Driver 188743680

Is the error I got, two copies of it, probably for both GPU's! :(

it seems it's different for others, because Mantle gives me the best performance.

it just sucks that it crashes to the desktop like that, and it only happens to me whn I'm receiving a report from the war room

I got the same error message. Installing 14.9 over the beta drivers seems to resolve the issue (mantle is still acive), but sadly doesn't improve the performance.

I have an R9 280x and run everything in Ultra, even turning up the AA.  I have no problems using DX11, but enabling Mantle in the beta drivers forces the game into permenant window mode and it gets choppier than under DX11.  Very disappointing.  However, this might improve with the final drivers.  For now, I'd say stick to DX11.  Once 14.10 or later arrive, I'm going to try Mantle again.

Wonder if they'll tweak the game for DX12?  I have no idea how much work would be involved there.

I hope they fix this game soon, I've played 70+ hours now anyway, even with all the problems I've had with the game, and the game it's self is fun, I love it, still if it would...
Flow smoothly the game would be excellent! But I still believe bioware are working on multiple patches.

For me it's weird, I get like 10~15 fps more with Mantle but there's a lot of stuttering so even if it has better framerate it's much smoother under DirectXh hope it gets fixed. In BF4 even with similar framerates Mantle feels smoother, which has me scratching my head.

I’ve contacted both AMD tech support and Bioware and EA with this and other issues, you should to the same, if nothing else they’ll get to know what kind of systems we are for and if we are lucky they will optimize it for them, if we are lucky.

I had problems the first 2 days.

You need to uninstall your existing drivers, reboot, install the latest beta drivers and reboot again.

Then it should work.

I have a 290x and have had exactly zero crashes since I've done that.

I'm using all graphics on ultra (or above) and I'm using Mantle wich gives me better performances than DX11, the game is smoother and I gained a few FPS in the benchmark tool.

I forgot to say that I tried to install the beta drivers over my existing drivers first, and that resulted in a lot of crashes for me.

Note the quote below, namely the CPU used.

I've been researching a fair amount on Mantle applications and from what I'm seeing, those who have systems where the bottleneck is the CPU in games better utilizing the additional CPU cores, the best performance gains from Mantle are those systems.  I can attest to what this poster is saying because I just swapped out an X4 965 for an 8350FX, and Mantle definitely allowed my older CPU perform better than DirectX.   While I haven't verified the upper limits, as in those folks running dual 290X's for instance, supposedly there is a marked gain at the upper realms as well as the lower.  Folks in the middle such as myself, I don't really see any improvement at this point with Mantle over DirectX and knock on wood, I haven't had any crashes or issues using either one.

As Mantle continues to develop, I suspect there will be some substantial gains as it doesn't have the overhead as DirectX and simple often ends up faster and more reliable.  I'm holding my judgement for a while to see how this all develops, seems a lot of potential for developers though.

Hope that is some help

basically mantle takes pressure from the cpu and turns it on the gpu, so the profits from mantle are highly dependend from your hardwaresetting.

I'll go the directx 11 route today then since I have the same CPU that you have! But it's weird that mantle works better forolder CPU's!

That is actually quite a bit more than my system.  Although I'm using a Sabertooth mobo with 8 gig DDR3, SSD primary and a Radeon 290 from Sapphire, with a Corsair watercooler (that has an obnoxiously loud fan that is being replaced as soon as it gets here)

With that, I can run everything on ultra settings except for tessellation which I dropped to high and the last slider for additional anti-alias settings, as I leave it off.  I can still manage 50ish frame rate and it seems smooth enough for me, as well as being stunning detail. (drop most settings to medium and 75-80 frames is easy enough)   Mantle, I would run their benchmark and sometimes get a few frames faster, sometimes a few frames slower, didn't seem to make any rhyme or reason.  However, on my 965 quadcore, I was getting 10 frames better on Mantle than I was on DirectX, which is pretty substantial.

I did reload all my drivers when I dropped in the 8350 and new vid card last night, so I may have negated some of the issues others were having, as I saw where someone mentioned a driver reload helped fix their problem.   I will say it is night and day playing this game with a more robust CPU and graphics card, of course now I'm hoping Santa will hook me up with a 144Mhz 27" monitor for the holidays.

Please do a test without Origin Online.(run Origin offline)
I have Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 ti 448 core. After playing offline, DirectX problem was gone.

Yeah, the game works great in directx 11 mode, still hade flickering and tear, posted a video on this site on the flickering, got an answer, told me it was the cable from my gpu to my monitor that was faulty, I almost couldn't believe it, I mean a cable, lol. Still I changed my dvi cable for my newly bought displayport cable, and cover me surprised, not a single flicker. Flash or tear in the game, all that suit for a cable lol. I still wouldn't believe it, if I hadn't played the game for 4 hours straight today without a single problem.

The only other thing I did was a clean uninstall and reinstall of the beta drivers! :)

The game is great and quite good looking with everything cranked at max.

Still there is alot of bugs in it, minor and major once unfortunately!

Cool deal getting that wonky cable that was buggerin you out taken care of.  Always nice when things work like they're supposed to!

I was playing a little more Mantle and one thing I did notice, was a slightly better frame rate in forested areas like the Hinterlands.  I doubt I'd read much into this as lets face it, system configs, driver sets, etc... etc... make for infinite number of possible outcomes on performance in the real world that isn't sitting on a bench.
