With Cassandra or Blackwall? They won't tank for my party whatsoever. Most of the time they are just letting my party get cheap shotted. I knew how to tank with Alistair and Aveline but I am at a loss with these 2.

Make sure their taunts are their preferred ability (they have 2). They will pretty much spam them off CD if they are preferred. Fiddle around with the Follow/defend too. You  might want to set your tank to defend your ranged dps if they constantly generate too much aggro.

 

Just be careful with that mechanic though as i have noticed many times people refuse to attack at all if set to defend someone. Which might need to be altered.

Yeah the key to both is to set Taunt/Challenge or War Cry to preferred and you can even disable the rest of their "offensive"'actions. You want to develop them with a lot of passives.

A good way to avoid them not doing anything is to use the "Attack my target" command. That way they will still have the default to defend the ranged, but they will initially run in after that command is placed.
