I've built Vivienne as a Knight-Enchanter but I almost can never make use of the Resurgence talent she possesses as it rarely will be available to trigger. All her other powers are ready to utilize, and it's not a mana problem. It almost always remains low-lighted/dark in my menu bar at all times, whereas the other powers can be used anytime I switch into combat mode.

I know Resurgence relies on Focus to operate; is that the problem - no focus? In a combat is she too busy fighting to have enough Focus to use Resurgence? Seems lame if that's the case. Takes most of the value away from this great power if I can never use it. I've equipped her with a +30% Focus amulet, but still no joy with accessing resurgence with any regularity.

Am I doing something incorrectly?

Hmmm. Focus is built on a party basis but spent on an individual basis. Could it be possible one of your other characters is using a focus skill a lot?

The only thing that determines if you can use a focus skill is that you actually have focus. You need a minimum of one full bar, that's it.

You can put the focus gear on any character, since focus is built by the whole party.

Thanks for the replies.

brazen_nl,

"one full bar" of what?  I see bars for 'Health', Mana/Stamina', 'Guard', and 'Barrier'.  Any of these at full equates to using a Focus ability?

Viviennne can be a full health and mana and still have Resurgence 'blacked out'.

Not at all.

The focus bars are the three thin bars right above your ability bar. If the left bar is full yellow, you get the Tier 1 effect, middle bar full Tier 2 effect, and right bar full Tier 3 effect.

This is on a PC, I have no clue what it looks like on consoles.

Thanks, brazen_nl.  Now I see.

BTW I'm at Level 16 and I only ever see the Tier 1 bar highlighted,  Does that indicate anything significant?

You need perks to increase maximum focus and unlock tier 2 and 3 abilities.

Inquisition perks to be more specific. It's under the Combat (Cullen) category on the War Table. When you see Focus skills (the yellow ones with the 4 V's on each corner like Resurgence and the Mark) show tiers 1-3. That's what it's indicating, each Focus bar is a tier. So all 3, max focus power. When you use the skill it'll consume all full bars, so if you have 2 full bars and half into the third, it'll consume the 1st 2, and leave you with half of a bar filled.

As an aside, when using a controller (such as on a console) It's depicted by 3 sections around the mana/stamina circle surrounding the skill hotkeys. Sadly it doesn't show 3 distint sections at base like it does with the keyboard GUI. And you'll see diamonds build up as it... builds. Once it's complete the diamonds changes to a solid bar with a dot at the end of it. If you have all 3 bars filled its a perfect circle with 3 dots at equal intervals. Looks nice but I can see it being confusing to some people.
