In DA:O, Alistair(Templar) had special abilities based around his being a Templar, there were also specialities like Duelist, Battlemage, and special abilities tied into each speciality. This was nice as it gave you specific reason(s) to add a certain character to your party.
In DA:I, there isn't much reason to have any particular character in your party, aside from "liking" them as a character.
Blackwall doesn't have any special Warden type ability, and is pretty interchangeable with Cassandra as she has no ability that is used by Seeker's.
Solas doesn't have any abilities that are specific to his origin as an Elf.
Pretty much applies to every character.
Not a huge deal, it just feels like combat-wise, there isn't anything particularly special about any of the characters that sets them apart from eachother aside from class.
