First time around I went with Unbowed, War Cry, Walking Fortress and Shield Wall for a Guard generation build. Found out after adding another skill that I couldn't map 5 skills so on my new Legionnaire I am debating on what 4 skills I want.
Current Level 12 Build:
Guardian Tree
Shield Wall + Chevalier's Step - Main Guard generation. Helps when fighting ranged enemies and heavy hitters.
Adamant + Turn the Bolt + Turn the Blade- Mitigate Guard and health loss.
Resilience + Biggest Threat - Move down the tree.
War Cry + Call to Arms + Cutting Words - Taunting generates 20% Guard per enemy for me and increases damage to targets by 20% for all party members.
Combined Arms Tree
Payback Strike - Starting skill.
It'll Cost You - Being hit is my goal. This is sweet revenge.
Deep Reserves - Shield Wall can use lots of stamina. This will help it regenerate faster.
Bear Mauls the Wolves - I can't always keep enemies in front of me. If they do get behind me this stops the flank bonus.
So far I have two Guard generating abilities, Shield Wall and War Cry. The abilities I am torn between are maxing Payback Strike for recovery from disabled conditions and a max of 600% weapon damage, Lunge and Slash for impact detonation and positioning or To the Death, which taunts an enemy and they do more damage every second but also take more damage every second for as long as I stay near them. The enhanced version would allow me to generate guard when they take damage. Seems like a good boss slaying ability.
My biggest question I have is about Lunge and Slash. Do impact detonations make a big enough difference to pick this skill over one of the others?
I will have 4 points left to use if I upgrade Payback Strike and choose To the Death. The remaining points would go to Walking Fortress to unlock Trust the Steel and Bulwark. The last point I would probably use on Flow of Battle. Constitution can be increased through promoting where Strength cannot and cooldown assistance is welcome.
I'd like to see any other builds for this class.
