How do you rotate the start direction?

Yes, it's possible. The "difficult" part is to succeed in selecting the arrow (I now don't try anymore: I just click on a spot close to the start location and move the mouse with the left button still down to a diametrically opposed corner). Then it's easy to rotate it with the 45° increments from the toolbar.

stuff :
rotate object: shift + RMB drag
up/down object: alt + LMB drag
TS mouseLook: ctrl + RMB drag
TS scroll: ctrl + LMB drag
TS up/down: ctrl + shift + LMB drag

If you've got a wheel, also works with shift + roll.

I always just click on the arrow head.

Ah, that's the trick! I tried to click inside the red circle, but never succeeded in selecting it. I tried your method, and found out that you just have to click on the red parts.
