It always amuses me when people criticize the accents of other characters. So many times, you hear crap like "OMG, that French accent is so fake!" and it turns out the VA was French.

...a b**ch? I mean, I understand and agree with her philosophy of 'getting back at arrogant rich people who mistreat those around them', but she's really not that different to them from my observations. She similarly thinks she's kind of better than others, and treats others with needless rudeness - take this paraphrased example of her interacting with Solas:
Solas: <Something Elvish>
Sera: <Fart noise>
Solas: Excuse me?
Sera: Sorry, I only like to talk using real words.
Considering the man's quite polite to you, Sera, was there a reason to mock his passion? No, there wasn't - you did it simply because you could, and believe yourself to be in such a position to judge 'what's appropriate and what's not'. Sera, when it comes down to it, is basically a British Chav. She has good points, but the hypocrisy of her nature seems to escape her, and I doubt she'll have any revelation about it. She's probably the first Bioware companion I'd class as 'consistantly annoying'.
I'm really disappointed with this character, cause she comes across as annoying and plain dumb. I have no idea what she contributes to the inquisition at all to be honest.

I think she was intended as comic relief. I love the other companions but they are grimly serious lot are they not? Sera's that nut you know that says something completely insane at the most inappropriate moment. She could have been given more depth though.
She kinda said herself that the whole point was to stick arrows in baddies. But there's also the whole crisis of faith thing that drew her there.
Yeah, but I have an army that does the same. And those guys and gals are pleasant and respectful. So ... meh.

Iron Bull isn't grimly serious, and even Cassandra got some laughs out of me.
You're right and neither is Varric for that matter and having heard the Cassandra jab about his chest hair last night neither is she. I guess they just seem more focused than Sera but you're right they all have their moments of light-heartedness.
Don't drag Sera with me either ... ![]()
Same. I am a lesbian and was really interested in the lesbian only romance. What we learned about her beforehand seemed interesting, and I always thought the Red Jenny thing was a fascinating story hook. Instead we have a rude, intentionally ignorant, insane dumb-butt who lacks an inside voice. Less likable than the guy trying to become a god and remake the world in his own image.
I'm sure she has an inside voice, but its to busy blasting Joan Jett to be of any use.
Honestly, I can't stand her. I sort-of liked her at her initial meeting, and I thought she offered up some interesting points.
But then I did her personal quest. Cringed when I watched her pretty much beat the nobleman to death, but, okay, he killed her friends. It's understandable.
Except she doesn't care. I asked her about it afterwards--how could she throw their lives away recklessly--and she basically snorted and got snotty with me. She didn't care that the "little people" had gotten hurt and killed because of what she did, so long as she came out on top. She threw their lives away for a simple con that benefitted her. She didn't take responsibility for her part in their deaths. And when my Inquisitor tried to at least get her to admit she was wrong, she insulted her so thoroughly I honestly had to meta-game to not kick her out on the spot.
Even her profile states it. She wants to save the world "so she can play". NOT to make it better for "the little people"--that's just an excuse. She wants a glorified playground where she can prank, torture and kill people she decides deserve it and then pat herself on the back after, saying she did a good thing because she fights for the downtrodden.
And that's just what I got from her personal quest alone. When you add in her intolerance of other beliefs, her speaking on matters she knows nothing about as though it were fact, and her not-at-all-endearing childlike attitude, you get someone who is probably my biggest hated Bioware character ever.
That said, it's fantastic that Bioware can make me despise someone so much. So kudos to the writing.
That's what makes her so interesting. She's a walking pile of contradictions and self-deception. She tells herself that she's doing these things for "the little people" and maybe it started that way, but she's really doing them for herself now.
She doesn't want to face the fact that, in a way, she's just like the people she hates; she's just as terrible and essentially does the same terrible things just for a different group. You're right, that is wonderful writing and someone deserves an award.

I find her confusing. I don't think I understand 80% of what she says (I don't mean her accent, but rather her words).
Then again, it might just be because I'm tired.
I have no idea what she contributes to the inquisition at all to be honest.
Well, she's obviously an extremely skilled combatant, since she makes the cut as a party member helping fight dragons and pride demons and other things that slaughter regularly skilled folks.
Secondly, she brings access to an intelligence network with a different focus and skillset than Leilana's. Which turns up quite a few interesting things during the game.
Some of that will be the writing, although I find it delightful. I came to university in the US in 1999 and was totally unprepared for some of the accents I encountered. I speak received English but my home is in Yorkshire so understanding her is not as much an issue to me as trying to understand what Valley girls are talking about.
Yeah, it's not the accent, I understand that just fine. It's more the way she talks - about 'big people' and 'little people' and her 'friends' and so on. I just can't seem to follow her train of thought.
That's because her train of thought ran off the rails in a fiery spectacle of smoke and death a long time ago.
Her writing, personality type and accent just feels out of place to me compared to everything else in the setting, It honestly wouldn't have bothered me as much if such a character type was moved to the Mass Effect franchise in a futuristic setting instead.

I love Sera!
I can't say I really liked Sera. She was well written but I don't think the fact that I was playing a proud Dalish with a more serious personality at the time helped endear her to me. Particularly the bit where my Inquisitor said "What if some of it is true?" (regarding the Temple of Mythal) and was quickly met with "Well, you're stupid then". Essentially saying that anyone who didn't believe the same as her was an absolute idiot.
Who knows, I might feel a different way with a different character that has a different personality. I don't think I'll ever play a character that romances her but I might eventually come to like her enough where she doesn't grate on my nerves.

Anyone who gets me a jar of bees is ok in my book.
I just wish an enemy screamed "NOT THE BEES!" just once.
I wanted something like: Bees! BEES! BBBBEEEEESE!!!
