I mean those you have to aim with your mouse, usually AOE spells I think.

In the heat of battle I usually lose track where the cursor is. The problem is when I want to cast some spell of this sort I often have trouble finding the targetting circle and I'm busy with it. Very busy.

Let us have the character move while we figure out where the cursor is. I'm standing there a felt minute and everything is over by then anyway. Then I usually hit the console button, too, when trying to escape out of it.

OR

Why not focus the circle automatically on the current target? I think that should ease things with finding it on the screen.

Yah, I agree Bioware definitely needs to make the markings more visible.

Or better yet, double tap 1~4 to cast something on yourself, hate wasting my barrier just because I cast it on nobody.

Casting AOE spells should be faster to set up. ME3 controls were pretty snappy, you pressed a key and the ability fired. In DA MP, AOE spells are pretty slow to set up and you're sitting duck making you an easy target while doing it.

I agree, Bioware should replace the whole targeting mechanic for simply pointing an enemy or ally and make it the center of the AOE. No setting up, just instant targeting.

This change is needed because Bioware made the enemies faster and the player controls slower than ME3, it's not snappy at all and a poor choice considering the action going on

Eh... I agree that it needs to be adjusted, but basing AoEs off of an ally/target is a poor choice with the current mechanics.  You'll get just as many people complaining about it as you do currently.

Even with the wonkiness and occasional AoE being cast on a tree/statue, I'd rather be able to place my AoE right where I want it, than hope that there's an enemy in the middle of a group that'll be just the right distance from everyone else to hit the entire group.  Then you consider the mines, traps, and fire walls, all of which are better placed ahead of the enemies than on top of them.

Anyway, like I said.  There's definitely room for improvement, but basing AoE targeting off of targeting an enemy isn't the solution.

When I play my elementalist all my offensive AoEs automatically appear on the center of my target already (PC with controller).

It's annoying that the character stops moving when you press a power that has a circle you need to place.

Why that is I am not certain, but it annoys me greatly. I can move my right hand and my left hand independently, you do not need to force me to not use my left hand (movement) in order to place a spell (Right hand)

I completely agree.  Even moreso when the area you want to drop your AoE is just outside your range.

I think a better idea would be to change the camera angle to a top down view whenever you're placing an AoE. It's pretty much impossible to place spells on different elevations consistently at the moment. I'd also like to be able to turn wall of fire before placing as well, especially when it gets the angle glitch for an entire match, making it completely useless.

I was just going to write up a similar thread. The targeting-mode spells (A/Confirm, B/Cancel) are a pain on console players too. I often can't get the spell off because the response is too slow and I end up hit/killed because of it or jumping unnecessarily. This is especially cumbersome in a heated battle with a mage kit when you're trying to revive or escape right before attempting to cast the spell.

I +1 a change to the target-mode behavior for MP or giving players the options to set an auto for self/target of defensive and offensive spells.
