As the title indicates, we get to make pretty big decision in the game, who will ascend to become the New Divine and become one of the most powerful women in the world. We get three candidates, Leliana, Cassandra and Vivienne. My Male Mage Trevelyan is stumped, especially since I am romancing Cassandra. Will making her Divine end our relationship? Who is best suited to lead the Chantry? Feel free to discuss and debate. Sorry if anyone has already started this thread.

Wait.... you can make Vivienne the new Divine? Wow, that's gotta be super interesting.

Vivienne became my Divine, somehow. Didn't really invest in the quests (were there?) about the next Divine.
Let's just say that in the epilogue it is said she met some... oppositon.

I ended up with Vivienne as the Divine.
Mages were not happy about that.
She basically brought about a 2nd mage rebellion with her dictator-like treatment.
I hope a DLC comes out where I can put a violent end to her crap. Probably won't happen, but I can dream.

People were saying that Cass becoming the new divine ends the relationship, but IDK to be honest. At the end of the game if she becomes the divine and you romanced her, they give you 2-3 dialogue options in response, one of which breaks the romance (the broken heart symbol) the other which I can't recall at the moment but doesn't explicitly say it ends.
It wasn't until recently that I noticed a line she says at the end of the game: "I will always stand by your side", stays the same regardless of whether she becomes divine or not. (If you didn't choose the break romance option at that point. I didn't choose it on my first playthrough in which i romanced her and she became divine) It is the same line she says in the first romance scene, "They will say one of two things about me - that I stood at the inquisitors side his protector and his lover.."
As for the epilogue scene in your skyhold room, if she becomes the divine she mentions how you will be pulled away by the nobles and she will be taken away for coronation. Suggesting she wants to enjoy the moment while she still can.
If she doesn't become divine, she mentions how you will be pulled away by nobles and that she wants to enjoy the moment while she still can.
Essentially the same scene, minus the divine part. This was what Leliana alluded to when she said many nobles will want to meet the inquisitor. It's safe to say the romance doesn't end unless you specifically end it when she becomes the divine.

What amazed me is that you can't back Mother Giselle as she seems tailor made for that role in game. Like, as soon as the idea came up I thought that's where it was going, but no. No one ever suggests it, you're never given the opportunity to prompt it.
I ended up going with Vivienne, myself. Was romancing Cassandra and I'll admit a bit of selfishness played into that, but either of them are better options than Leliana.

I personally think Leliana is the best choice out of the 3. She seems more suited to the role, especially the softened version.

She seemed far too eager to force change and far too naive about where that would lead to me. Cassandra and Vivienne both leaned towards more reasonable compromises.
Of course, I haven't actually seen/read what happens when Leliana takes the big hat, so I could be wrong. Just from conversation with the three of them, she seemed the worst choice.

Yea, a softened one that will create a new magisterium in southern thedas.

Cassandra just kind of ended up being the divine for me.
I supported both her and Leliana when they talked about it, so it seems the game just randomly chose between them. I'm kind of regretting it now tbh. I think Leliana would have made a better divine.

It isn't random, the first post of page 3 in this thread details how it is chosen: http://forum.bioware...rst-post/page-3

Cassandra's definitely going to my Divine, knowing this doesn't end our relationship. The Mage Inquisitor and the Warrior Divine. Tremble o' Thedas before your masters.

As a side note, I have a feeling Bioware may pull an Udina with the divine choice in the next game. They couldn't even handle two choices in Mass Effect, and here they have 3 choices, 1 of which has two entirely different approaches depending on if she's hardened or not. Leliana seems like the best choice, she's always been DA's Liara. But Vivienne given her status quo viewpoints of the chantry might be a contender as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up pulling the same move and making either Leliana, Vivienne, or someone entirely new the divine. On the other hand I would be impressed if they did in fact respect the players choice. But that remains to be seen.

That's honestly one of the reasons I figured Giselle would become Divine; to tie threads.
On the other hand, Cassandra, Vivienne, and Leliana all take the same name; Divine Victoria - which personally makes me believe that Sebastian wasn't just messing with Merrill when he told her Divines pick their names out of a hat - so I think we'll just hear some ambient dialogue about what Divine Victoria is doing without actually seeing much of it.
Being that the talk is having the next game set in Tevinter or Rivain, Victoria's decisions won't have much of an impact.

I romanced Cass and also made her Divine.
The final scene with her was sad but I figured I was letting go of her for the greater good seeing as I agreed with her on practically everything about how the chantry should be run.

What are all of Vivs' stances?
Vivienne's reign is defined by two main issues; the first being rebellion at the mere thought of a mage upon the sunburst throne - rebellions that are put down swiftly.
The second is her reinstatement of the circles. Under these new circles, mages are given unprecedented freedom and power, but it all ultimately comes from Vivienne.

I said this in the Cassandra thread yesterday, but I wish there could be a mixture of all three policies (Leliana's stance on Non-Humans in the Chantry, Cassandra's on the Templars and Seekers, and Vivienne's with the Mages.)

That would be ideal, yes.
Cassandra, at least, appears set on reforming the Seekers properly under the Inquisition if she doesn't become divine, so that works out.

You should always make your romance option the Divine if possible imo. Pin them on a chair so you always know where to find them! Keep them busy and dont give them funny ideas like running through magical mirrors or become some admiral sailing all over the place having fun ![]()

Would rather have her close at hand. Val Royeaux is a long ways from Skyhold, and it gets cold in the mountains at night.

If Vivienne's one about allowing Mages into power is true, I want to see it. And I'll change my romance to Josephine. My Human Mage Inquisitor is first and foremost interested in mages. Leliana is too extreme and radical for me. And Cassandra is a little too much pro Templar/Seeker. I'll wait and see.
