I did the War Table mission where I supported Vivienne, but Leliana became the Divine.  No idea how that happened, as I only ever had conversations about it with Vivienne & Cassandra.

EDIT - though I have to say, in the ending slides Leliana as Divine seemed to have a very peaceful and beneficial end result.  I'll probably stick with her.  She helps the mages establish their own college, etc.

Yea, a softened one that will create a new magisterium in southern thedas.

Perfect.

Cassandra just felt like the "right" choice to me but by my gut judgement for some reason. She was the most moderate of the three choices and there's something nice about seeing her vindicated by history after starting the Inquisition. I like that, narratively. That said, Leliana seems to be the one that makes things the best for mages and I'm really torn because I half like just playing a game and having those consequences stand but I also like sort of guiding Thedas towards certain ends once I have meta knowledge. With Cassandra, the Circle and the College of Enchanters are in a tense relationship from the start but with Leliana, there is no Circle.

I like the latter but also don't. I like it for how progressive it is but he's also my Warden's LI and it almost feels like I'm making it certain they will remain apart because of their duties. But there is something to be said about how Leliana originally felt she had a greater calling and maybe this is what the Maker really meant. It's...tough to decide. I want to do with my gut but I'd like to give Thedas a damn break after all the trouble with mages.

I'm on my second playthrough and I really don't know what I'll do.

 Unfortunately Bioware does not give me the option to pick any companion to become Divine.

I support Sera as Divine. She is absolutely honest with her feelings! She will stand against the obnoxious nobilities and fight for the little people! It is time we have a divine who represents the majority; the unfortunate and poor!

And I just want to see how ze nobles of "Varrr Royoo" reacts to her

Guh, I like and hate different things about them. Leliana and Vivienne both seem like they could handle the political warfare and subterfuge the best, but Cass has got this honesty about her I'd trust way more.

I like how Leliana basically makes all races equal, but hate how she lets the mages govern themselves (really, Lel? I don't want another Tevinter)

I like how Cass redeems the Templars and Seekers, but hate how she seems to be the "weakest" leader overall.

I like how Viv keeps the Circles while making them less restricting, but hate how she keeps the status quo for everyone else.

I can't choose :crying:

I'm still waiting for an answer for why we can't put forth Mother Giselle as a candidate.

Did Leliana scare anyone else? She was all "I will make them see" and all I could think about was the Thirty Years War.

Pretty much, yea. Best outcome I could see from Leliana becoming Divine was her getting herself killed.

@Former_Fiend: I was expecting one of two things to happen to Mother Giselle--either she'd die because she's so nice and non-zealot-y (and we can't have those types in Dragon Age), or she'd become Divine. Neither happened. She just sort of fell out of the plot. It was disappointing. I would definitely have preferred to put her forward instead.

And yes, Leliana scared me a little. All that talk of making people change made me think of Anakin from Star Wars and how he wanted to make people change. It's not a good thing when the first thing your goals bring to my mind is the man who ushered in a racist, domineering empire.

She was a spymaster... it wont be easy to kill her. More likely her reign will be unopposed coupled with a lot of unexplained disappearance of those that may cause her harm. Pretty sure it was the Maker's work.

Killing Leliana is fairly difficult, granted. Even the Warden couldn't quite do it. But in theory she's as likely to die from a slit throat or poisoned chalice as anyone.

I think I prefer Cassandra. The Divine has enormous political power but is a spiritual leader first and foremost. Cassandra seemed most aware of that. I really appreciated her saying that all should be welcome and that something is wrong if someone like Varric won't set foot in the Chantry.

I had no idea the divine choice is based on your ingame dialouge. That's actually pretty good. I was wondering how Vivienne became Divine in my story and thought that was for everyone until someone mentioned Leliana. I told Leliana in private that I would support her but instantly regretted it when she started talking about "making everyone see the Chantry..." I liked her views on freeing mages but she had nothing else going on other than "I'll free mages, do a mass conversion, profit." Cassandra's views were okay but very Seeker oreinted. I felt she would be better suited to rebuild them. Vivenne understands that Mages will always be feared, now more than ever, and allowing them to roam around is no good for anyone. I saw this the moment I conscripted the mages and they began complaining about their comfort and room sizes. They are too far gone and too pampered to live in society. Vivenne as Divine seems to elevate the mages and give them power in a much better way than they ever could have achieved through "freedom".

If Vivienne becomes divine can we please assassinate her? I'm all for a mage being on the throne but not a self-hating one :P

If there is one thing in this world that Vivienne does not hate, it is herself.

Her own kind then.

I want Leliana to be Divine, but I'm worried I fucked something up. I had options to tell Cassandra that I would support her, (though I have no interest in doing that) but not Leliana. I've completed her personal quest and "softened" her. (although, honestly, I wouldn't have minded if I didn't have the option. within the universe of Dragon Age, all political dissidents eventually become mindless demons by virtue of their disagreeing with the player character, so who cares if Leliana takes them out early)

If I have fucked something up, hopefully I have better information for next playthrough...

The chantry needed to change, Leliana was my choice since she was a powerful idealist. Cassandra would have been a good choice, but I felt that in two hundred years everything would go back to how it was, it wouldn't be a changeful ruling. I didn't know that Vivienne could become the Divine, if she had been I would have cut her head off before she could assume the crown.

Personally, I think by far the biggest problem is that her policies are incredibly unstable. Once she's no longer Divine, (or even just starts slipping as she gets older), it'd take another Divine of equal determination and aptitude with similar beliefs to continue her legacy. Someone else might reverse her reforms, or lose control of the situation completely, causing a southern mageocracy. I feel like little change followed by little change is better than the sudden shift she brings.

I'll admit, the only reason I refuse to make Leliana Divine is because her talk of how she planned to rejoin a romanced Warden for good gave me warm fuzzy feels. No shame.

Why would Leliana end her relationship with the Warden if the hug-and-feels world she's trying make? If she can convince everyone in Thedas to peacefully accept no Circles, she can do anything.

The Warden will die of the calling soon enough I believe, so I figured that Leliana would have some time to spend with the Warden before the end, but she must make her own place in the world even after the love of her life fades, and what better way is there than to become the Divine and change the world...?
