I let Stroud face the demon because... Well, mostly because I have no strong feelings about him one way or another if I'm being honest.

 

 

I let Stroud face the demon because Hawke's too awesome to die and the Warden ally's death is the going admission price of getting the Wardens to join the Inquisition (so I can say that he died for their stupidity), not to mention that even a rogue Hawke will pull out a two-handed sword and start hacking away at the spider, totally ruining the class selection. That alone ensures that any Warden in this decision will bite it.

I killed one of my Hawke's just because I was so frustrated after spending 3 hours in CC trying to make him remotely resemble his DA2 self. Eventually I just gave up, threw a massive beard on him to hide his face and decided he can just die in the Fade.

The handlebar moustache in DAO and DA2 practically defined my Hawke. Twas infuriating not being able to recreate it.

My Hawke is female. That means the male Warden, whoever it is, must make the sacrifice. It just so happens that the Warden in my worldstate is Stroud. A good character, but not a difficult one to part with, especially since Bethany was left at home with mother.

The only time I sacrificed Hawke was when Loghain was my Warden ally. I didn't want him to die since he was one of my favorite characters.

We are opposite people... I can't kill my Canon Snarky Hawke without feeling sad and gloomy for his lover, Isabela, who i ADORE! I hate female Hawkes, and i'm a Female Player...

I played this mission yesterday, I saved my Hawke. My warden died on DAO, I couldn't stand to lose my Hawke too.

Also I don't really care about Stroud, so my choice was really simple.

Now, just in term of story, to me Hawke is far more important than Stroud and it's actually nice to see a warden fixing the mistakes of his own order.

My Hawke survives every time, goes to chat with the Wardens, and then returns to Kirkwall to help his buddy, Viscount Tethras.  Loghain was the hardest to leave behind, but neither Alistair or Stroud stood a chance.
