This choice sucked, making me pick between Loghain or Hawke was evil incarnate. In the end Loghain sacrificed his life, I just loooove a Ferelden who was treated like **** by the Orlaisian wardens to save the people who mistrusted him after ten years of good service, plus he died a hero.

I left Hawke behind because I feel like the Grey Wardens wouldn't be able to rebuild if Stroud/Alistair/Logain died. I think Hawke already left their mark on the world, and it was a fitting end. Though seeing Varric that sad was indeed crushing.

I left Hawke behind, but I agonized over this decision for two whole days. I had to choose between my favourite Hawke from my main play-through, and Alistair, who had been romanced by my main Warden. I was seriously considering starting the game over and switching up my main world-states with some alternate ones so I wouldn't have to make this choice, but ultimately stuck with it.

I chose to leave Hawke behind because in my mind, I felt she was more guilty about what was happening in the world, red lyrium, the mage rebellion, the Kirkwall incident, Corypheus and being the Diplomatic personality type, not only would she feel this guilt more strongly but would be more willing to and even want to sacrifice herself to atone. She also showed that she was very protective of those around her, sending Anders and Carver far away from the fight to protect them while still putting her self at risk to set things right made the choice seem in-character. Also from my own perspective, even though I wasn't controlling her, she is still my character. I always hate it when I'm asked to sacrifice characters I like, but I'm often perfectly willing to sacrifice my own character if I feel the situation called for it, plus, I just cared more about Alistair.

I knew I'd get a major disapproval hit from Varric for making this choice, but I wasn't prepared for how strongly it would affect me. Honestly, when he was telling his story about Hawke back at Skyhold I was sobbing, harder than I did when Mordin or Thane died. I'm so glad I got to hug him though, I wonder if people who left Hawke alive get to do the same...

From my Inquisitor's perspective:

I picked Loghain to stay behind, as much as I liked him and didn't want to lose him I feel that everything that happened with Cory was a Grey Warden mistake and it's not Hawke's responsibility to clean up.  A death was necessary, and therefore a Grey Warden death was better. I chewed out the other Grey Wardens and made them fight to the death for the Inquisition.  They lost a high ranking member of their order because they are morons. Hawke IMO, is more valuable alive than dead. His death teaches the Grey Wardens nothing. Plus he was Varric's friend and I wasn't going to let him die in the fade.  The Wardens still had their fortress, and if a Blight could be stopped with three Grey Wardens then they'll be okay.

I left my 'canon' Hawke in the Fade. Not because I don't love her, or out of any fondness for Stroud, but because that's just what she would do. Never mind roleplaying my Inquisitor, at that moment I was thinking 'would Hawke let someone else do this, or would she shove them out of the rift and go back herself?' The answer was clear.

It was the most heartbreaking moment in the game for me, especially because of Varric's reaction :( .

It was an easy choice to leave Stroud.

If it was Alistair, I don't know what I would do.  Guess I should tinker with the keep and try that for another run.  But I can't imagine leaving Hawke behind just for what it would do to Varric.

Evil choice.

My Hawke was damn tired. He cared for Merrill, yes, but it felt...necessary for him to stay. He wanted his god damn revenge, it was his fault that Cory is actually out there in the first place. So I granted him his wish. He is still my favourite of the three, mind you(Warden, Hawke, Inquisitor). But it felt right.

I still wept so many manly tears.

Loghain is the only one of the three Wardens whom I might value over Hawke as an ally, but he is bound by blood to the Wardens and his skills are just wasting away as part of their incompetent organization. Better to just let him go out in a blaze of glory, I think, and keep the young and promising (also, untainted) Serah Hawke around instead.

I also kind of enjoy the irony of that outcome: Loghain sends Duncan and the senior Wardens to their deaths at Ostagar (sp?) and exiles them from the country, then as a leader of the Wardens he is sent to death by the Inquisitor, who exiles his colleagues from the country!

:D

Anyone thought it was lame that if Hawke stays behind s/he just flails their weapon a bit and die like in under a minute as easily as whoever the warden is ? I thought as opposed to the others Hawke would actually manage to kill the demon, the option did read "might" die. Big time badass decay

Did this happen? I don't recall seeing my Hawke fall. Maybe my cutscene was broken, but as I recall Hawke ran up to the Nightmare and the camera panned away to Quizno escaping. I enjoyed it, because the Nightmare was left alive for future DLC that could address whether or not Hawke/Loghain/Alistair/Stroud died.

I saw Loghain go down just as fast. He just runs under the spider and dies. I was like wtf was the point of having him holding the creature back?? He could have easily just ran with us if that was all it took. lol!!

I picked Hawke, reloaded the save, picked Alistair, reloaded the save, debated with a friend of mine, and went with Hawke as my final choice.

I played Snarky Hawke in DA2, and I headcanoned him being fairly selfish, childish, and cowardly. So when my Hawke offered to stay in the Fade, to take responsibility for his actions for once, I had to let him do it. Varric's reaction killed me, and I feel bad for Bethany, Anders, and the others (where ever they all are), but Hawke grew up. He wasn't going to run this time.

That was my take on it too. Though tbh Hawke started talking **** about the Grey Wardens and that annoyed me, so I ended up leaving her there, even if the GW was Stroud and therefore the ''easiest'' choice.

Went for Hawke, i think he played his part and wardens having a leader (Stroud in my case) is more important. I exiled them though.

I chose Hawke, because I couldn't customize him without triggering the voice changing bug for the inquisitor. His face offended me, so he obviously had to go.

Oh the squeeee when I met Alistair in his cave and listened to him talking about his happy life together with my Warden, not regretting a single thing about not becoming King of Ferelden while Anora was doing okay by herself. Oh yes, all was good. 'T was a good decision. I did the right thing for him.

How could you do this to me, Bioware?!  I ended up sacrificing my Hawke, because Alistair! I didn't put him through that blasted ritual only to have him die in the Fade! I'm sad that Anders's love (probably)  is no more, but I guess in some way he might understand since, to use his own words, some things are more important than love, right?

Seeing Varric afterwards just broke my heart! I hadn't touched the game for a week after that, thinking maybe I should restart in a world where Alistair was safe on his throne, even if that meant breaking him and my Elf Warden up.  :(

Simple decision for me. Firstly there wasnot ever a chance i was going to rip Hawke away from his Isabela. Even if it wasn't for that, Loghain has been a grey warden for over ten years, he must be pretty close to his calling so he's an obvious choice. Ditto Alistair. Probably ditto Stroud if Loghain hadn't been present. Then there's the fact my Inquisitor is friend's with Varric, who's best friend is Hawke. Definitely not chucking his best buddy under a bus.

Hawke always gets to live, as I was far too attached to him/her in the last game to let them be sacrifice, as well as subject his/her LI to losing them.

Loghain's sacrifice made me love the character even more and thankful that I saved him in the Keep import. The guy has spent the last decade doing a thankless job and being treated like the scum of the earth for his role in the Blight, yet in the end he actually ends up being a better Warden than most of the Wardens are.

His sacrifice is also so much better than serving him up for the Archdemon, because it never really gave him a chance to atone and simply gave him an easy way out. This Loghain isn't a deathseeker, but still chooses to fight a losing battle to let people he barely knows live, a nice juxtaposition of his decision to retreat at Ostagar and allow the man he's known from infancy to die.

Despite Anora's condemnation in Origins, Inquisition proved that underneath it all, Loghain was still the Hero of River Dane at heart.

As for Stroud, he would also buy the farm, because while he's an awesome one scene wonder and I'm a huge fan of him, he never got any time for me to be invested in him as a character, nor do we know anything at all about the guy. In the end, it's a no-brainer who I'd pick.

As for Alistair, I've never kept Alistair as a Warden, so I've never had to make that choice and I'm especially glad for it now. I'd probably switch off the game and refuse to continue that playthrough, I just couldn't pick between the two. The only thing I can say about this is that I'd probably have to go with the Templars instead of my usual Pro-Mage playthrough in Inquisition, as if I sacrificed Alistair, I couldn't bring myself to face Fiona.

I always chose to save Hawke, and I've played through with all 3 possible Wardens. Loghain and Stroud I had no issues sacrificing.

But this still hurt my feels..

If he had romanced my warden of that import I might have sac'd Hawke.

I had Hawke and Loghain. I chose Loghain since he is senior Warden and will be useful leading them. And won't be tricked by venatori or fake Calling. While Hawk at this point is just the guy who's great at killing stuff. Which is good, bur PC can do that too.

It's so sad it's almost beatuful: Hawke's brother killed by darkspawn, his sister killed by Taint (it was my first playthrought how the hell could I know?), mother killed by blood magic, Merril left to care about Dalish and now he's sacrificing himself to stop a darkspawn-mage he thought he killed.

Amazingly sad, I think. R.I.P. Hawke. You were a hero... but in the end, it wasn't enough.

First time I picked Stroud to stay over my male Hawke. Second time I picked my female Hawke to stay over Alistair because one) I will never kill Alistair and 2) that Hawke romanced Anders and I couldn't bring myself to kill Anders in DA2 (one of the reasons being that he wanted me to, second being that Sebastian wanted me to and I hated Sebastian) so this was the next best thing.

They both disappear regardless. Better to have Loghain rebuild the Wardens up north and Hawke dying/wandering the Fade for all eternity to make up for his uselessness in DA2.
