Found this elf mage and agreed she could follow me(quest follower?) . Find and activate an item . The quest didn't show up in my log and she stops following me once i leave cave and no further dialogue. Any thoughts?

Did you enter the cave that's behind where you meet her? Once you clear the cave's mobs you should see the device you need to activate at the far back wall on the floor in front of the statue ...which you need to have Solas with you. This cave and the device is for his first companion quest and it's the first one of these devices you will encounter. There are more of these scattered across the world. The elf is only there as a helper and will not follow you once you leave the cave.
