When having a conversation with, let´s say Cassandra, and I pick the romantic dialogue option (the "heart"), is this the only we to get actually romancing her (or anybody else for this matter)? Or can I pick other answers in theory?
I am asking because some of the things my "romantic" Herald says sound just plain dumb and too straight forward for my tastes.
You dont have to always pick the romance option. Just flirt with the said character a a couple times should trigger the event.
I was a little bit confused because the game is hand-holding you in an asburd manner, but when you pick the very first romance option with Cassandra, she DISapproves and grunts. That made me wonder if there is any choice in this matter, or you have to take each and every romance dialogue option no matter how stupid or offensive the herald may look like.

You need to at least flirt with her a couple times. You dont have to spam the flirt option whenever it presents itself.
She simply does not trust/like you enough in the beginning to talk to you about herself. She disapproves and grunts in the other option I picked as well... I think I said that she is suspicious and does not have friends

She doesn't always disapproves, it seems to be race or approval level based.
Yes, you´re right. Thank you, now I am relieved. I was afraid Bioware made the Romances to one dimensional, but this does actually sound nice. 
Cass pretty much grumbles anytime you flirt with her...in fact she does it almost right up until you finally...ummm...."romance" her
