In one of the very first conversations you can have with Cassandra outside of Heaven, she reveals that Seekers have the ability to manipulate the lyrium in mages or templars blood, using it to stun, paralyze or outright kill the mage or templar.

This brings up one question: What are these abilities, if not of magical origin?

We know from the codex that "Magic" in the sense of Dragon Age is defined as the ability to draw upon mana to manipulate the real world and, to a lesser extent, the fade.

We know from conversations with Alistair in DA:O that the abilites of Templars or similar to magic, but not exactly the same. They seem to come from the "supernatural" properties of lyrium, obviously, so this fits to the lore somehow.

Now these "gifts" Seekers have (thanx to "ritual and many years of dedicated training", as Cassandra puts it) obviously supernatural properties.

How can they be explained?

I assume that they are earned after consumption of Lyrium (either a special kind of lyrium or after preparing it in a special way), analog to templars, and that Cassandras talk about "gift" is actually a misdirection. Cassandra claims they do not use Lyrium, however.

Or, there are more supernatural abilities within the inhabitans of Thedas, and not only "Magic". What do you think?

It is actually explained in game later. In short, Seekers get their ability from the fade :P
