No, Krem's a male. He was female, but chooses to live his life as a male. He identifies as a male so he's male. Basically he's the transgendered character that the devs hinted about on Twitter a little while back.

So basically just a women who acts and thinks they are a man? I was just curious.
Well, technically yes, but it's not really polite to call a transgender man "a woman". If he says he's a man, lives as a man, and his friends all consider him a man, he's a man.
There are transgender members on the board who have expressed discomfort with calling transmen and women by their birth gender. Just a little tip since people on the BSN (myself included) can get a little touchy when it comes to gender and sexuality.

My mistake.

Please mind your phrasing, you'll offend a lot of people. He was once a female who identifies as male, so he lives life as a male. He is male.

I suppose that depends how you view transgender people. They feel inside that the gender they are is wrong and that they are another gender instead. The way they act and think is often very much another gender. It's hard to explain but imagine if yourself was put in a body of the opposite sex. You;re still you but your body is completely different. That's about as basic as how they feel can be explained.

Krem is a man, he explains it pretty well in game. Her birth gender was female, as others have stated, and I laughed at the part where my character asked if he would change his genitalia with magic.

Well I don't think the act like a man was accurate but I couldn't figure out a different way to put it on the spot. Personally I prefer women who are more outdoorsy and the supposed way men act.

What the actual ****? Please tell me you aren't suggesting that Krem is just acting like a male?

That's actually a pretty common question for fantasy settings - comes up in D&D talk a lot, for instance. If magic is available, then why would someone born as the wrong gender settle for the half-measures of binding their breasts down and stuffing their pants with socks? "Well, because magic can't do that!" Which prompts the question of why magic can't do that if it can do all these other, wondrous things.
The real reason, of course, is that part of the reason to include transgender characters is to offer representation to transgender people, who are limited to surgeries and hormone therapies, and most conscious writers want to give them legitimate representation rather than the escapist magical switch. Draw back is, that does kind of take some of the magic out of magic, but that's obviously the less important issue.
Bioware's setting actually allows for a pretty solid answer what with the general fear of magic the public has, that same fear limiting it's advancement beyond "throw fire, heal minor wounds", and things like that.

Two X chromosomes suggest that is the case.. Though "pretending" is the wrong way of putting it. (S)He IS a man, though not by nature's side.

Krem is man. If you want to be exact he's transman. It's pretty simple.

I don't think he/she intended anything offensive, I think they were unsure on the specific differences between transgender man and a woman who does not identify with traditional female gender roles.

I'm transgender. Sometimes, people just get it wrong. You educate and move on. Particularly when offense was not meant.
Krem was a great breath of fresh air and Bull's acceptance was great to see, as well as the breadth of potential questions the Inquisitor could ask without necessarily being rude about it. Because some players will have those sorts of questions.

Krem is merely Krem. A unique individual and personality who shouldn't be defined by gender.
People should be defined by their values and character.
But if you must have the factual answer, then scientifically, Krem is female regardless of whatever people would have you believe. Krem possesses the biological makeup of a female.
TBH, I don't get all this sensitivity and need by people to define themselves via their gender/nationality/race etc. Just be of good character, you'll be defined by your moral values rather than all that superficial terms.

I am actually one of the people who hates when someone says a women acts like a man. But typing out acts like what society considers the way a man acts seemed off. I may be a man but I believe women are literally able to do whatever a man can and when it comes to women I am attracted to I prefer women who act more "
manly" as much of society would think

I thought that was a bit of an insensitive line to say to him. I cringed when I clicked on it.

I agree with you fundamentally on this point. I'm sure you don't mean any offense with your posts and I appreciate that you are open to hearing other thoughts on it.
I'm having difficulty understanding this post in relation to Krem. I don't think Krem thinks that he is acting outside of gender roles. He views himself as a man and lives his life that way. He also has a fairly masculine demeanor (voice aside) and is a melee warrior in a mercenary band (traditionally masculine role).
If you were just referring to women in general, then I may have misunderstood you.

It's a fair question to ask. Because often, people don't understand that not everyone wants to have GRS. Having that view expressed in game is fair and I think the question, if blunt, is not unlike some of the things people have said to me in my own like. You get some "if you had a magic lamp" questions from time to time.
