I won't spoil the visual difference since this is the no spoiler zone, but I noticed his card changed when selecting party members.

I'm on good terms with him, haven't completed his initial 'Inner Circle' quest yet.

Not really sure why it would change to what looks like a more..negative card, anyone know?

I have a theory, but since this is a no spoiler zone, I'll just pm it to you^^ As soon as a kind mod maybe shoves this in the spoiler zone, I can write it here too ;-)

Main story choices may effect your companions whether you've resolved their inner circle crisis arcs or not.

Some companions cards may have the ability to change a few times over the course of the game.

I had another companion's card change after a cut scene.

I just finishe his quest. I saw that too. I guess they move, base on how they feel about you?

I like it!!

Still unsure how romance works, cept to click the heart options....

If you did a quest I think you did. It was because of that quest, another quest will change it to another card.

I'm fairly certain it's because you just did the quest I think you did and made the choice I think you made.

That's about all I can say in the land of no spoilers.

As far as I know, it's basically just heart spam.

That and the person has to be an available romance to you or else you'll get shut down. They do let you flirt with people you wont be able to fully romance.

Doing their respective inner circle quests (not the personal quests) give a massive boost in approval. That's how I romanced Cass with an anti-chantry, atheist, dalish inquisitor.

There seems to be two things that change them, approval/disapproval, and all of them change when you're doing their big personal quest.
