So i'd like to know Biowares reason for removing the Desire Demons. Are they becoming scared of Anita Sarkeesian?...have a feeling Despair demon replaced Desire Demon...but why? The Desire Demons were in the first and second game and what they did made sense!

They're different kind of demons. We encountered fear and terror as well.

I dunno, I doubt it was because of Sarkeesian though.

I do not think this is because of political correctness...

I think this is because of the change in the art direction of demons...Have anyone noticed that the demons in this game look scarier, more alien and more freakish than DAO and DA2.

Having a female succubus like demon goes against that art direction...

Though I do not understand why they did not just change that...Folklore and folktales are chock-full of deadly looking feminine creatures...Pontianak, Penanggal, Laura from Evil Within, etc...

So your current theory is that in the game where we get more nudity than ever, and where we have female companions with boob windows, that desire demons were cut to prevent offending sensibilities? Even though sloth and hunger demons were also cut and we have new kinds?

The persecution complex continues...

Probably because this game has more to do with fear, terror, despair and brutality than it does the seductive lure of succumbing to the powers of, say, blood magic.

One of the main functions of desire demons in DAO was to tempt the PC into making "evil" choices-- that doesn't so much fit here, since the counter argument to desire demons in DAI would essentially be "LOLNOPE, there's a demon apocalypse on. Bye."

So now we cannot have female succubus like demons....

of course we can! they are also purple, naked and with claws instead of arms. i really doubt that GW's cease and desist force hit BW/EA. because desire demon has two ****** when daemonette has one.

anyway, i always wanted a desire demon as a pet. well i guess no luck for me.

There is a "desire" demon infesting Emprise du Lion, but if you rush the main story you'll never encounter them.  You have no main plot reason to go to that map.  I believe the explanation given is very poignant to explain one reason why they may have had to adapt to the changing landscape.

Sloth demons also became Despair demons (as the codex says in the first few lines)... that is unless you were only concerned with the lack of boob wielding demons.

There is plenty of tasteful nudity in the game in the architecture and you can cut glass on some of the armor adornments.  Romance Cassandra as one example if that's what you're looking for.  Gone are the loin cloths of old in the romance scenes.  Also at the climax of a major story arc an entity comes to your aid wearing nothing but a water outline.

But yes... some person I've never heard of is probably singularly responsible for the design change.

I think desire demons are meant to look like something you might desire. Dorian mentions a desire demon and refers to it as a he, so it could be that they decided the model didn't really fit as a universal thing. Maybe from now on desire demons will be like Sloth demons and just take various different forms?

I suppose desire demons would gel with her arguments about women as background decorations and female bodies being used to appeal to the desires of male players ect ect. The nudity in the game fits the story line and the characters are more than that.

That said, I still don't think it's because of her and I would be disappointed if it was because her arguments are horribly flawed.

Haven't finished the game - but if I don't see one desire demon I'll ecstatic.

Those demons should have been disembodied voices that could take whatever form they wanted at best - and blank mannequins at worst.

Sexy fem-dem is not everyone's desire - even of men who like woman, not all of them want clearly demonic freakshows.

Love the direction they went with demons/spirits in this game.

Idk...I think Desire Demons can fit very well in this game. giving into some kind of temptation could completely destroy the Inquisition. As for the Sloth, i didn't even realize..i just did a search, and i confused the Hunger demon for the sloth..the appearance and moment is uncanny.

The best way to do a desire demon would be for them to mimic whichever character you'd romances. The issue wasn't that they were objectified (they were the ones playing you after all), rather that desire is unique to the person, and while a beautiful woman not wearing much may be that for some people (more power to you boys and girls) it isn't for a significant enough number that it can be done a better way.

If Dragon Age were set in the 1970s, it'd be Desire Denim.

Where's this desire demon? If you mean Imshael he's not a desire Demon. He's a lot more powerful than that.

I was actually looking forward to fighting a couple of them, they are always difficult and you usually end up in the fade moving through some freakish nightmare world that had a vibe all of it's own and yes I do think it had something to do with a vocal minority crying for "less slutty" females. How they came to the "slutty" conclusion in the first place I have no idea.

How did they come to that conclusion? I would suggest that they didn't, that you just put those words into their mouths.

I think you will find that the people voicing opposition to the objectified portrayal of women are also strongly opposed to **** shaming.

Yes I know but semantically Xebenkeck takes on the appearance of the Desire demon in DA2 while Gaxkang takes on the appearance of an Arcane Horror in DA:O.

The lore claims that all of these Forbidden Ones are very powerful but they've all mostly been pushovers outside of the books.

Imshael also bargains with you with temptations mirroring every Desire demon prior.

I concede semantics.  And I did put "desire" in quotes to begin with B)

Ah, I thought I missed something as well with him turning into one.

I'm a bit disappointed no desire demon shows up. Pride Demons are a bit meh once you reach level 19-20

The female companions you mentioned are all ugly, while desire demons are pretty, which greatly offends some groups.

So. You don't want a "Desire" demon. You just want sexy demoness at all. Completely understandable.  :P
