Didn't have any issues on my first character, but second playthrough and the game freezes if I use a respec amulet. Freeze happens shortly after exiting skill screen.

I have the SAME EXACT PROBLEM on PC. Glad to know I'm not crazy. I also want to point out that I am on my first run and this is the first time I tried respec'ing.

 

Update: I figured out a work around- it sucks, but it worked. After I respec and exit the menu screen I immediately hit F5 to quicksave. Then my game crashes. When I relaunch it and load the quick save, my character was still respec'd and no more freezing. They need to fix this bug.

Only got the game a few days ago, however had this freezing issue after respec-ing tonight and was wondering how to solve this. I'll try saving immediately after then. Crosses fingers. I haven't had any issues so far and I hope I don't have too many more!

Can you describe the situation more closely? Perhaps we can help nail the cause of the bug.

 

And yes, I did respec in the latest build, unless a new one came in the past two days.

We may compare what was different between your situation and mine - perhaps we'll figure something out.

I'm playing on PS3 and while otherwise have mostly avoided bugs, my game seemed to freeze everytime after I used that amulet! (Every time afterwards my console complained about using wrong method to turn it off and I feared for its safety.) I read some time ago someone on PS4 had same problem with these amulets, but unfortunately I didn't see how (or if) that discussion proceeded.

I finally managed to relocate my skills without problems by making sure no war room reports were going to appear while handling amulet or working on my skills, and I assigned only few skills at once, then temporarily left menu to make sure game's still not frozen before continuing. Don't know which of the tricks helped or did I just finally got lucky. Using amulet for other character than protagonist never caused troubles for me.

Or even with the game. Any changes you made should be recorded. We may have a better chance of isolating the cause of the bug that way.

What version are you using (standard/deluxe/etc)?

 

Have you used CheatEngine or any trainers?

 

Have you modded the game at all (can the 60fps be applied to PS3 for example)?

 

What temp is your console typically running at (there may be high draw when calculating respec)?

 

What is the speed of an unladen swallow?

No, just turned it on again and again until it succeeded. Don't know if this is false clue but I think (but don't remember exactly since it's been weeks) the game froze in my case when the text about advisors having their reports ready (pretty much everyone, all were on some 12 minute missions) appeared. I try to keep consoles in cool places generally but otherwise don't know about these things, and have not modded or cheated (alas) (I miss PS2 days).

This happened to me repeatedly. There's a trick to it.

 

Do the respec in the Undercroft, then immediately save once the respec is done. The game will still crash when you exit the Undercroft, but when you load the save you made, you can leave without any problem.

 

I found the crash happened whether it was my character or any of my companions that used the amulet, so whoever you're doing it for, just make sure to immediately save as soon as you're done. It's still a pain in the ass, but it works.

I have this issue too, but I worked around it.

Every time, I use the respec amulet. I would save and load the game. 

The game doesn't freeze after the loading. Only solution so far.

Same here.. Qunari Mage, Lightning, now Necro.. Ive tried respeccing at lvl 2 or 3, 9, 11, 13, and now 14, and every single time it freezes about 3 seconds after "apply" the selection.. The only way i was finally able to get it to work, was at lvl 13, and hurrying to quicksave after applying.. Kindve ridiculous that this is how we have to do it.. The only way to exit the frozen game, is to end task, which causes the cpu to spike to 100% ( not very good for the pc).

 

Was the game tested at all?

Have done a few tests, and finally have found that allocating 1 point at a time does seem to fix the issue, and not having to quicksave..

 

Also, (though only done this for 1 lvl 14respec) i have been able to allocate 1,2, and 3 points without freeze, as long as im not aquiring more than 1 "ability" at a time before clicking "apply"..

PS4. At level 23 I decided to respec for my first time. The game crash and I have to exit it. I try again and the same happens. Again and again. Will try to allocate one at a time and see what happens

I had a same problem with Dorian. I respeced him and used all ability points at once. Game froze and i had to force-close it. Same thing happened the second time i' ve tried it. I went to try it again, but it was my third time and... Well, i knew better by that time, right? So i started spending points on all i want in the inferno tree, exited the menu and walked arround for about 3 seconds. Did the same with the storm tree, and repeated the process until all of the points were spent. The game didn' t freeze or crash.

However... 30 hours of playing DAI later, i needed soome ability points for  my lvl 20 male qunari mage. I' ve never respeced him so i had lots of abilities that i don' t even use so i used the renewal amulet and spent points all at once. As i doubted, the game crashed. I even tried spending points one by one, with a 3 second walk-around between every used point. It didn' t help. The game was still freezing and , eventually, crashing to desktop. I am 60+ hours into the game, and i really don' t want any corrupt save files to apear. Any of you guys know a safe way of getting this fxed? Please let me know if you do.
