I'm actually shocked that PC disc copy sales are so high. I buy the disc copy simply because I'm a collector, but everyone else I know always buys PC games digitally. I really wouldn't take any notice of these numbers for the purposes of a console to PC sales comparison. It is interesting to see the console sales however.

I don't own a console, so a question: can you digitally download the game on console and not purchase a disc? If so, does this count take that into account?

I bought the PC hardcopy! Im no collector, but having slow internet made me decide to get the hardcopy for faster installation.

Man, are these legit?? Those sales figures hurt.. And i find the game sooo good so far! Im hoping this improves for bioware..

Hopefully the sales spike up once the Christmas season hits.

Love how you went out and found the smallest set of numbers you could here OP.

Games number 5 in the top 10 selling in Europe.

Haters gonna hate.

PC version of the game hasnt been cracked yet. I'm pretty sure thats something which increased the sales quite a bit.

I bought the inquisitors edition so that meant getting a hard copy. Can't remember the last time I actually bought a physical copy before now though - Probably ME3 Collectors edition?  Game purchases have been through Steam for me mostly - probably 95%

My next physical copy will be Witcher 3, that Geralt Statue does look cool, and should fit nicely with me LOTR collectors editon statues. Hope the craftsmanship is better than the shoddy effort done by the people who did the Inquisitors edition for DA though. If Bioware use those guys again, I'll get the digital edition of ME4.

Anyway using physical copies sold as an indication for game sales these days is pointless.

I got a hard copy - and the biggest game box I've ever owned! - but I the last time I bought a hard copy of a game before that was ... probably when DA2 came out. I might have impulse purchased a couple of adventure games out of the bargain bin at EB Games Australia since then, but I buy things almost exclusively on Steam and GOG these days. Every PC gamer I know is the same.

2 things.

Good one taking VGChartz as gospel... actual lol.

Digital sales are huge now, nearly 50/50 and more so on PC..... and if we're going by VGChartz, it outsold FarCry 4 in its first week in the US, so I think it's doing OK :P.

I just checked vgchartz for US sales, and the total console sales pretty much outsell the PC counterpart 5 times. Guess it's a reason why the PC version has console based UI...

PS 4:  182,803
XONE:  137,608
PC: 84,475
XBOX 360: 92,901
PS 3: 62,369

Edit: Some people claim digital sales for PC might boost up the amount, and it's obviously difficult to assess how many digital copies of DA:I is out there, but the digital edition of DA:I isn't any cheaper and probably has a hefty 25 GB+ size to download. I will expect no more than 20% extra digital sales for PC (I did some internet clicking). Just be reminded that this is all guesswork.

Edit 2: After some searching through BF4 sales, the sales for PC vs digital is approximately 1:1.5 copies, or a 150%. That sugges that PC sold about 210000 copies in total.

If you just take a step back and try to look at the case as; pc being just another platform the game is released instead of a console vs. pc mind; you may then understand or emphatise with the concerns of pc gamers. With this in mind; you may come to terms that the pc version deserves the same amount of love as any other platform. Some of the features we are talking about here are so basic,so simple and default to pc(such as tooltips) that; it nearly feels like something even beyond a direct port... I mean come on !

The global sales distribution of pc was marked as %92 digital for the year 2013. Now this may not reflect the position of a newly released title because of promotional sales, regional habbits etc. But you can safely assume something like %50 to %70 even considering these facts and EA data about digital sales. On top of that; digital sales means more profit versus physical because there are no longer production, distribution, middle man costs. Profit is nearly 2 to 1 vs. physical per game sold. And in the case of EA it would be much more as the Origin store is owned by them.

My estimate is somewhere around %20-25 for the pc. But the long tail advantage could push this number to as high as %30-35 of course with reduced earnings per sale.

Lets just suppose your table ended up reflecting the entire sales distribution, which is around %15(pc) for the lucrative early sales period. Even this number; could mean around %25-30 of the income would be coming from the pc on a conservative basis. And the absence of this number my friend; could easily tank any AAA budget title, not reaching or barely reaching the same league sales wise.

That is why pc is still a very important platform. And that is why the pc version should get the same amount of love as any other platform from a fundamental and economical perspective...

Considering how much they earn for PC sales I'm surprise the KB & M controls are inferior to using a controller. Unless they want to force PC users to go buy an xBox 360 controller to help M$ xBox sales.

That changes things considerably! That means that PC sales are a massive 30% of all sales. That's considerable, and noteworthy.

So that's good, if PC players aren't happy then it deserves attention. I thought PC was so dwarfed by the consoles that no one would really care.

I get the feeling Bioware didn't want to released the PC version but EA force them to which is why M & KB controls are bad.

This is why the game should have released in October when it was clear and safe instead on right after COD, Halo, Assasin Creed and the same day as GTA5.

You mean releasing it earlier in more unreleased state would have been better?

Don't know what lucky charm you're using as system, but for me the game right now is so broken I could hardly play and eventually got a refund for it. I dread to think what it might have looked like when even EA/BioWare said it wasn't ready.

If anything, this game could have EASILY gotten another month delay right on top until christmas. Think of all the happy people having DAI under the tree and it then actually working! THAT would have been better.

Here is a link to the analyst report:
http://www.pcr-onlin...revenues/034551

Nowhere in that article does it mention Steam. What evidence is there that digital sales for games on Origin but not on Steam are significantly less than 90% of total sales?

The fact that the 'analyst report' included phone and tablet games in the tally?

There's no denial if consoles sales are higher than PC. 4 platform vs 1. The problem with PC is that support issues can be a huge problem especially MANY users are not PC literate. Alot of issues come from users themselves either knowledge-wise or hardware incompatibility.

What Gabe Newell is doing for Steam console would be a good thing as optimization will be far clear easier and issues easily isolated.

Well for digital downloads, I don't see EA paying fees to Sony and M$ to put their game on the consoles so most likely PC profits are more significant than console sales despite their smaller number compared to combine consoles sales.

so you're basing that on incomplete data from 1 country? You know DAO (the highest selling Bioware game ever) sold a total of 1.6m worldwide right? DA2 sold 750k

also, based on week 1 sales DAI is the best selling Bioware game to date

A few things.

1. No one should even be discussing this as VGChartz has been proven time and time again to be not even remotely accurate.

2. DAO sold more than that

3. DAO is not Biowares best selling game, Mass Effect 3 sold nearly 12 million within a few months after release.

Any source for that statement? Because i highly doubt this number.

No source, I have to say bs.

At most ME3 sold about 7m across ALL versions, and ALL platforms.

http://www.vgchartz....e=mass effect 3

During March 2012 ME3 sold 1.5 million copies.

Total gross for the game is estimated at US$200m.

I'm surprised there are still so many people buying physical copies.

So I can sell the game in a later stage.

I only buy on Steam. This game was not released on it, so I got a hardcopy for the first time in years.

Numbers are real, the thing is, you can juggle with them.

And to ad, many PC players always wait to buy a game after the first major patch, or when it is on sale a few months later.

Unfortunately the problems with the PC version are going to impact sales. But if they get those problems fixed then the fans of DAO will come back and buy it. It's got tons of potential.

Another problem is, of course, DA2. It was so reviled by the community that many of us swore not to purchase DAI upon release. Some of us did, based on promises by Bioware staff, and then ended deciding to return it because of the major failures.

So, will it be successful in terms of sales? I think it's got a good shot, those of us who loved DAO are still waiting for Bioware to give us a good sequel. Getting the problems fixed will go a long way boosting PC sales.

I actually really enjoyed DA2. I was just annoyed with the reuse and repetitive environments. I loved the combat, Way more fun compared to both DAI and DAO, in real time of course. You felt powerful. Controls worked much better for PC as well.

If DA2 had the environments of DAI, it would be a spectacular game.
