I have been hit by this issue a couple of times now, a few tips that I have picked up are:

*slight spoilers possible*

1.Losing content seems to happen a lot during during the fade sequence, which often means you can't tell what is gone, if it is equipped to one of your party members during the period you don't have them.
2. Save often (and not just quick or auto save) this is a good idea any way with games or work etc. But it means that with this problem you will hopefully only lose a few minutes of playing rather than hours.
3. If all else fails and you want your content back without replaying massive chunks of the game. There are a couple of useful mods out there. The add item mod, can be used to add back in any items that have gone missing, including DLC content. Also using the console (and the visible console mod to make things easier) there are a few debug scripts that can be run (as has been mentioned with shale) that can fix or reset DLC.

Hope some of this helps and good luck

I've got a problem with the console. Every time I try to do something with it it says:

Error: Cannot execute function 'runscript etc.'

Is there any way to remedy this problem? I really need those debug scripts. :(

I have only ever had that problem when I have had a typo in what I have typed into the console. Have you got the mod that makes what you type into the console visible? If not i strongly recommend getting it so you can check that what you typed is accurate.

If typos is not your problem I don't know what to suggest as I haven't run across the issue before.

What if you can't find the service in msconfig?

The service doesnt even exist, what am i supposed to do? I have the ultimate edition by the way. I used to have the original version as well.

I think somehow the update service was deleted, any ideas at all? PLEASE help, ANYONE, this problem has been ongoing for 3 months now. I mean I've now even finished DA2, but I want my money's worth by at least finishing the DLCs.

I just got this glitch tonight, unfortunately. Thanks for the detailed thread on how to fix it. It's very frustrating to have Alistair's sword suddenly disappear and Sten standing in camp in just a bitty loincloth.

Just so you know, most of what you wrote here doesn't work. I sstill don't have Wardens Keep or the Stone Prisoner and thaey have been bought and poaid for twice.

I had both the dissapearing items and unauthorised dlc glitches.
Reinstalling game/dlcs and manually running the ea core server/update service did not help.
Running the game with full admin rights (win7 64-bit) did fix all the problems.

This is ****ing bull****! I have spent the past 24 hourss tryinf to get Warden's Keep and Return to Ostagar installed: and, no matter whast the **** I do they still won't install --even though the game says that they are enabled. If I have to unistall the fuclking game one more time it will be permanent.

tried and installed the dazip file but it didn't work. I talk to the merchant, exept the quest and rod but honnleath doesn't appear on the map.. journal says quest completed. tried to disable stone prisoner content but the game doesn't react to that and it still stays enabled even if it's disabled so I can't force to load the last savegame..

Hey! I have an issue with my redeem code as well. I redeemed it during the installation of the game, however no confirmation email came to my email account (i created the account specifically for the game). So I could not login with the email (could have been a typo with the email). So i registered the account again on the email properly, but obviously could not redeem the code again.

However, I managed to find my previous account via the website. However, I can't manage to find the email on which the account was registered.

Any ideas or advice? Who I can contact on the issue? Because the accounts and display names are identical (the passwords are the same), both registered within an hour, so I may be able to prove that I am the owner of both accounts (just a bit stupid ;) ).

I had problems activating DA:O Ultimate Edition - unauthirized DLC  - and this worked for me:
http://help.dragonag...lc unauthorized

Kepha wrote...

For help downloading and installing DLC see Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ.   This FAQ is only trying to cover the issues that can occur while playing after you get the DLC successfully installed.

Table of Contents:
1)       DLC Content Disappeared
             * DLC items are missing
             * Soldier’s Peak no longer on map
             * Shale is acting weird.
2)      Sulcher’s Pass (Felix) and/or Levi are missing.
3)      Travelling to Ostagar - Stuck at Loading Screen
4)      Blood Dragon Armor isn’t showing up in my inventory.
5)      DLC Content shows as unauthorized

1)  Hey my DLC Items Disappeared (Ack! Sten is naked!)
Soldier’s Peak was on the world map, but its gone now
Shale is screwed up (Talent’s not showing correctly, speaking to him crashes the game, can only get the Golem activation conversation)

Red Alert!  You have been hit by the Disappearing DLC Glitch.  The game got confused, decided you no longer had the rights to the DLC and stripped it from you. This can have dramatic effects on your game, leaving the DLC in a half reset state, and just in general screwing it up.  It may even appear that older saves are corrupt as the game will remove the DLC upon loading until you resolve the rights issue.

Any saves made after the DLC is stripped are bad. The only possible way to recover them is to use the developers console.

No known cause, though it may be related to the game losing connection with the server while you’re playing. If you have ongoing problems with this it might be best to play logged out.

What to do:

*  Immediately exit the game completely.
*  Restart
*  From the Main Menu go to Downloadable Content, Installed Content Tab and make sure all your DLC is authorized.

At this point you should be back into a good state with regards to the game recognizing your DLC, but you now have to figure out how to go forward.

Go back through your saves looking for the last good one made before the DLC was removed.  Clues that it is good include:
DLC Items are equipped/in inventory (chest contents are not a good indicator).
Warden's Keep and Shale related quests accurately reflect their state in the journal.
Soldier's Peak and/or Honnleath are on the World Map if you've already unlocked them.
Speaking to Shale gets you normal conversation.
If that’s not too far back, Congratulations! Load it up and keep playing from there.

If your last good save is a ways back and you don’t want to replay hours of the game, you will need to use the developers console to fix your game. There is a really good thread on how to do that here.

2)  Sulcher’s Pass doesn’t show up on my map
Levi isn’t in camp to give me the Warden’s Keep Quest.
Bann Loren's Lands aren't on the map.

All of the main DLC’s have a separate piece, the “Offer”, which is where the quest givers (Levi, Felix, and Elric) live.

Check whether you have the Offer part installed

Go to My DocumentsBiowareDragon AgeOffers and look for the following directories.

dao_prc_ocp_2 (The Stone Prisoner)
dao_prc_onrx_1 (Warden’s Keep)
dao_prc_ocp_1 (Return to Ostagar)

Also check the My DocumentsBiowareDragon AgeSettingsOffers.xml file.  There should be an entry in there for each offer that is installed.  The game won't recognize an offer being installed unless it is in the Offers.xml file, so even if the directory is there, its not counted as installed unless its in the Offers.xml file.

If the directory is not there, the offer is not in the offers.xml file, or there is no offers.xml file, you can try to manually download and install the offers. (Even if they're there you might try reinstalling them just in case.)

The Stone Prisoner (Offer only)
Warden's Keep (Offer only)
Return to Ostagar (Offer Only)

Right click on the above link for the DLC you have having problems with and select “Save Target As”, or the equivalent in your browser. Save the .dazip file to your computer. If your browser tries to rename it to .zip file, rename it back to .dazip after download.

Find the daupdater.exe application, it is usually located in the bin_ship directory in your Dragon Age Installation (For example C:Program FilesDragon Agebin_shipdaupdater.exe) Double click on it to open it.

Click on Select DAZIPs.  Navigate to where you have saved the .dazip file and open it.

Now the .dazip file will appear on the Install tab.  Select it on the list and click Install Selected.

Restart the game and see if that has resolved things.

If it hasn’t, try forcing the DLC to reinitialize itself.
*  Go to the Game’s Main Menu
*  Go the Installed Content Tab under Downloadable Content
*  Find the DLC you are having problems with on the list of DLC.
*  Clear the checkmark next to the DLC to disable it.
*  Go back to the Main Menu and load your last save. When it gives you a message about DLC being disabled, Force Load the save.
*  Make a new save with the DLC disabled.
*  Exit back to the Main Menu
*  Go back to the Installed Content Tab
*  Click the empty square next to the DLC to get the checkmark back and reenable the DLC.
*  Load the new save you made.

If none of that works
You can use the Developers Console to warp yourself to the necessary locations to get the quest to start. Instructions in this thread

3)  Travelling to Ostagar - Stuck at Loading Screen

Some people have reported issues with getting stuck at the loading screen travelling to Ostagar while playing the Return to Ostagar DLC.  It appears that this issue is related to Return to Ostagar not getting properly installed.  Try manually reinstalling Return to Ostagar to resolve this issue.

Return to Ostagar

Right click on the above link and select “Save Target As”, or the equivalent in your browser. Save the .dazip file to your computer. If your browser tries to rename it to a .zip file, rename it back to .dazip after download.

4)  Blood Dragon Armor isn’t showing up in my inventory.

If your armor suddenly vanished take a look at section 1 and make sure that you weren't hit with the Missing DLC glitch.

Playing Dwarf Nobles without at least Patch 1.02 will result in your armor being removed from you during the course of the origin story.  Also sometimes when its first installed it doesn't show up.  Use this procedure to force the armor to appear in your inventory.  Note:  Unfortunately the Force Load Method described below no longer works with Patch 1.03.  It is left in for people still on earlier version.s

*  Go to the Installed Content Tab under Downloadable Content
*  Clear the checkmark next to the Blood Dragon Armor
*  Load your last save, and when it gives you a message about disabled DLC, force load the save.
*  Make a new save.
*  Go back out to the Installed Content Tab and reenable the Blood Dragon Armor.
*  Load your new save and you should see the Blood Dragon Armor Chestpiece in your inventory. All other pieces are available for sale from the merchant in the party camp.

5)  DLC is unauthorized and the game won’t let me load my saves.

As long as you play logged in the game tries to connect to the server to verify your rights to the content. It cannot do that without the Dragon Age Origins Content Updater service    It is supposed to start when the game launches, but there is a timing issue where it does not always get fully started before the game tries to check with the server. (Hopefully at least mostly resolved with Patch 1.03)

First try and manually start the service just to make sure that it will run properly :

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
3.) Right click it and select START

If the service starts manually.

Likely you do have the timing issue related the service getting started quickly enough.  Patch the DA Updater using one of the following:

Patch 1.03 (Preferred) - Includes the most up to date fixes for the DA Content Updater.  Some users have reported that installing Patch 1.03 leaves the service in a bad state, running the DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta after running the patch seems to resolve this.

DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta - Standalone beta application that includes DA Content Update service fixes that later went into Patch 1.03.  Only use this if you don't want the other changes in Patch 1.03.  Originally posted by Bioware's Jason Leong

Service is not on list, times out, or stops immediately.

The DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta application has some diagnostic tools that can resolve some of these issues if you run it.  It can be safely installed over Patch 1.03, as it includes the same version of the DA Update Service files as Patch 1.03, and checks the version numbers to make sure its not overwritting something newer.  It will preform the various Windows operations necessary to get the service working correctly, even if the files were already updated.

If you continue to have issues there are manual steps to fix the service in Section 3 of Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ .

System cannot find the file specified error.

DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe, the "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update" executable, cannot be found at the location Windows is looking for it at.  If you have moved your Dragon Age Installation, Windows may still be looking for the executable in the old location, even with a full reinstall.

To check where Windows is looking for it:

* Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER
* Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.
* Right click and select Properties
* Check Path to Executable and make sure that it is the correct path for where DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe is in your installation. (Generally located in the bin_ship directory, but a search of your harddrive can find it.)

If the path is incorrect, its a relatively simple registry fix.  If you are uncomfortable using the registry, you could also follow the instructions on how to uninstall and reinstall the service in section 3.2.4 of the Redeemed DLC Unofficial Troubleshooting and FAQ .

To fix it in the registry:
* Run Regedit.exe
* Search for all references to DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe
* When you find the ones that are under DAUpdaterSvc, update the ImagePath key to point to the correct location for DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe.
* To update the ImagePath key, right click on ImagePath[/url] and select Modify.  This will bring up a text box where you can edit the path.  Make the changes and click [b]Ok.

Play Logged Out

If you don't want to go through all that hassle, you should be able to play the game just fine with all your DLC logged out.  Make sure to actively log out in the game, and that "Always log me in" is off.  If the game is not letting you load the game when logged out, make sure your CD Key is stored in the registry properly.  See this thread for details on how to check that is and to fix it.

None of that works, my content is still unauthorized

This can often be caused by a problem writing to the My DocumentsBiowareDragon AgeSettingsprofile.dap file.  Make sure that the file is writable.  You can also try renaming the file to something else, and forcing the game to regenerate it, which it will do the next time you log in.  Achievements are also stored in this file, so you want to make sure you don't delete the old version until you're sure everything is working.  If your achievements have been uploaded to the social site they will be redownloaded to your computer when you log in.

Any way you can find the email on which a praticular account is registered? Because it seems that I have redeemed the code for an account registered on an incorrect email address (which possibly does not even exist) =(

And of course bioware/ea dont say any official reason for it.... what a shame
