I've had a feeling that barrier amount is dependent on weapon damage, so even support class would benefit a lot from good staff. Is it not true?

Yep, I just checked by switching staves.. With the starter 24dps staff the barrier has 900 hp. With a 102dps staff it's at 2724 hp.
