Somehow I managed to completely overlook their recruiting side quests in Val Royeux, and now I'm 20 hours in. My war map offers "Here Lies the Abyss" and "Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts", which appear to be major story arcs.

Do you think I missed out on too much by not recruiting them until now? If so, I'd rather bite the bullet and start over now.

On the other hand, do you think I could complete "Here Lies the Abyss" before recruiting them and not miss a beat? I'm pretty OCD about crafting my story, and it makes sense to explore Val Royeux just prior to starting "Wicked Eyes".

Viv sends you a message. Go to val royeaux (not the winter palace) and see if you can find sera.

are you able to see there recruit missions via the world map? Not trying to be a smartass, never skipped over their recruitment mission. So that being said, if they are still on the world map you should be able to recruit them.

I won't be able to load up my game until later tonight. Neither of them ever showed up in my Inner Circle missions like it did for Iron Bull, which I think is what threw me off.

I rushed out of Val Royeaux and back to Haven immediately after the first major scene there early on. Never talked to Viv's messenger and I don't recall picking up up Sera's arrow.

I'll probably head back to Val Royeaux after "Here Lies the Abyss" and before "Wicked Eyes."

Assuming I can still recruit them, do you think it's too far in the game to build a relationship with them?

As somebody who completely missed out on recruiting what's-her-name (Isabella?) in DA:2, I feel your pain. :(

I missed Isabela and Fenris.

Haha, I missed out on Fenris on my first 2 playthroughs. I was then looking through the wiki and found this guy named Fenris and was like who the hell is this guy?

I missed Leliana on my first DAO playthrough. I just never noticed the tavern in Lothering. I feel your pain.

Every time I play a DA game I miss a squadmate. In Origins, I missed Sten, and it was too late to recruit him after the Blight reached Lothering. In DAII I missed Fenris. A shame, since at least one of them turned out to be a really interesting character on repeat playthroughs.

Come to think of it, I hadn't even heard of "qunari" until I looked online and played through the game again.

I managed to miss Leliana on my first DA:O playthrough.

Talked to the guy outside before the inn and they told me there was people inside looking for me so i stayed clear, turns out that was a mistake.

I just hope I'm not too late. From what I've managed to read online without spoiling the game, it seems I can still recruit Viv as long as I do it before "Wicked Eyes". I'm not sure it's ever too late to recruit Sera. We'll see when I fire up my PS4 tonight.

This is a perfect example of why I always seem to enjoy my 2nd play-through more :)

Not at all.  I recruited them right off the hop and I haven't done anything with them other than chat in Haven (something you could do in one go).

I am at the same point in the story as you and just got Vivienne, Sera was found first time around. Comparing notes on our PT:s over dinner my husband mentioned questing with Vivienne and I got suspicious since he does not even have Skyhold yet. It works just fine =)
