Could not agree more... the old qunari were kind of scary. This is not a race you want to be invaded by... now they're so damned pretty, and far less hostile.
They're basically humans with horns.
Miss the eyes the most, and the multiple horns on most qunari, the tiny secondary.
Why the redesign?
Much preferred the look of the Qunari in DA2 compared to DAI (who agrees?)

Kind of wish we had the facepaints similar to DA2 as well... I hate the qunari facepaint in DAI. I want the red one from mark oft he assassin that covers the lower face, the neck, and the shoulders. That's an awesome qunari look.

I like the female Qunari (but then, I only had the comics to reference before), but the males look like apes. Or gorillas. Whatever. And despite being muscular before, weren't as ridiculous as they are here. There was still some sleekness about their look before. Now it's only the females that retain the sleek looks.

I like them. You can customize them to look like DA2 if you want. Personally I preferred the radiant orange eyes from DA:O but the horns and overall non-human look from DA2. In DA:I I can make my qunari look how I please. I have one that looks like DA2 and one that looks a bit softer but both have those radiant eyes.

OK, I'm gonna stop calling them gorillas and start using "marshmellow puff".

The Arishok should be the father of my children. Def. I don't like the pinheaded Qunari look at all. Huge bodies, little heads. What?

The Qunari were perfect in Dragon Age 2. Their design was such that they truly seemed like their own race: outlandish, alien, and exotic. I absolutely loved the 'ethnicity' of them as well. They unmistakably had features of native/ south Americans in their facial structure, combined with an almost avian approach to their horns, and DA 2 Qunari were utterly unique.
Then we got Inquisition in which there were just big bald humans with random horns jutting from their heads. A very very lame disappointment ![]()

The Qunari only had one face in DA2, so you can't really properly compare them to DA:I Qunari where the latter can be diverse via CC. We've also only seen one Qunari other than the PC in the new engine: Bull. He has a rough, chiseled face and an inhuman nose. He doesn't have that one face that all the DA2 Qunari had, but he would fit in if they did have more than one face.
I'm sure if resources permitted it, we would have seen some variety to the faces of the Qunari in DA2.

DAO Sten is the best. ![]()
Kidding aside, I find the Qunari's in DA2 had more authorative presence and something to not be understimated. Given the amount of Qunari present in DAI (exclusing the player), I'm thinking them devs were more focused on giving them a more friendly and approachable design, basically a giant teddy bear.

I seriously think the game designers looked hard at every single piece of Qunari concept art done for Inquisition;

The Qunari in Inquisition are pretty much a mix between the ones from Origins (like Sten, mostly dark-skinned men with white hair) and the ones from DA2. While it's great to see them change the Qunari and make them more interesting, the DA2 ones just looked more different than the other species then they do now.
I hope that that species will have a defined look at some point. Makes the whole setting too inconsistent if the design is changed again and again. Imagine if they did that with the Turians!

I agree it's inconsistent that they've redesigned the Qunari 3 times now, wonder what they'll look like in DA4. Hope they won't just be big humans with horns as in Inquisition, I much preferred the look in DA2 - that was unique and simply looked awesome ![]()

Agree - also, iron Bull's head is way too small for his body and could BioWare please snap out of their Prinze fetish? The other VA's could pronounce the words in the script.

I agree as well, and maybe they could scale down the body on the CC. He looks like a gorilla.

I prefer the the frostbite engine to the past engines. i find the animations and faces in frostbite to be superior. I always found the Qunari in DA2 to be too "over the top," compared to Sten. I think Inquisition created a nice 'middle' ground for the Qunari. But this is a subjective thing there is no right or wrong to it. For as many people who liked the DA2 qunari I recall as many people upset with the DA2 qunari.

I do like their look in 2, but they had literally no variation except for the Arishok. On that basis alone, I prefer DAI. Bull would be a good template for future Qunari go as far as features (for male Qunari anyway). He's recognizably inhuman, but he doesn't look like a total monster.

Every qunari in dragon age 2 save one all looked exactly the same.
We actually only have one Qunari in each game with a noteworthy presence. (Qunari players do not count)
DAO - Sten
DA2 - Arishok
DAI - Iron Bull

The only thing I miss from DA2 Qunari are the black outside of the iris. For the rest, thanks to the customization possible with the CC, I prefer the DAI ones. Yes, the multiple horns would have been cute, but I like the variety we have now. The only thing I hate about the Qunari in DAI are the hairstyles. Both horrible and attached to the horns. So I can't have the horns I want with the hairstyle I find less repulsive. ![]()

... Personally, I think the females are the better template. I really like them... yet hate the males. I'd prefer the males only a bit more bulked up compared to the females (much like the body/gender difference is in the other races). Maybe Sten had the right proportions i'm thinking of. He still looked flexible and didn't give off a meathead vibe. Thefe was that live action series with Felicia Day too.. the male Qunari there was even skinnier (but then again, he was a mage).
Also the pointed skinny chins and short forehead kind of seems... off... for how big the rest of their body is. I haven't messed with their CC options a lot, but it seems like every screenshot I see is like this. Females have more rounded and oval face shapes. It makes their heads fit their necks better.

So it seems like everyone agrees the DA2 Qunari were perfect in there design. Watch the intro video at the beginning of DA2 and you will see how much better the former Qunari design is. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Change for change's sake is stupid. The Arishok is the epitome of how a Qunari should look. The quad horns and white hair helped the look too.

I agree with you, OP. Before the game out, I had plans to play as a female Qunari but after 5 failed attempts, over 2 hours in character creator, I just gave up and went for an elf (no city elf, unfortunately). And man, seeing your post just reminded me of how much I miss the Arishok.
one of the best DA characters, it's a shame he had to die... :/ Still, isn't Iron Bull the only Qunari you see in the game? I wonder what the others look like. I don't think they'll change the Qunari in the next game. It's been 3 games and the art style in all of them have been hit-and-miss and met with quite some critique. Eventually they're going to have to pick a style and stick with it. I prefer DA2's art style, it was the best, the most pretty, plus better looking Qunari. After all the difficulty of learning the frostbite engine, they're obviously not going to move away from it, and future games will most likely adopt the same look.

Those pictures are hilarious. Why is Leliana crying? She acts nothing like that in-game... Plus she wanted Celene to die...
