I've spent more than 50 hours with the game and combat for me is better than DA2. MUCH better than DAO (minus tac cam).

So I think the combat is just fine as it is.

I find it laughable how people are now reporting how awesome DAO's combat was....because it really wasn't.

Before DAI's release, everyone agreed how rubbish DAO's combat was.

Now all of a sudden, it's the bible of gaming combat? LOL

Some people prefer a tactical vs action approach to combat.

DA:O was tactical.

DA:I is basically action.

It's not so much the combat I find is the problem, it's the tactical traits of how your characters party works that I have an issue with. If I employ two tank based companions in my party, I expect them to grab aggro on the first turn of combat, instead I'm left running around on my Mage to put some distance between a random target that's taken two bars off my HP before they seem to grab it off of my character. You can fiddle around with the tactics in companion traits however I did not see much difference nor diversity with tactical traits that were available in DAI's predecessors. I never had this issue in DA 2 or even the first game, to me DAI seems a poor import of DA2 combat with even shoddyer companion AI that seem to like to standing in a fireball that a high dragon just dropped on us..... On another note I am unhappy that they removed ranged characters melee appearance when a enemy gets close, for instance hawke using a bow would employ a small dagger to deal with a target that got too close and a Mage would use the blade on the end of their staff..... Why am I still hurling arrows at a target that's 5 inches away from my face and is about to eat my heart?

Surprisingly the DA2 does have better AI, for all the flack it got.

Tactical camera is nice in this game, but it's botched up by limited range and poor cursor path finding properties (can't target characters on top of the ledges UNLESS I find a path to the target, which sucks when using ranged characters).

Only thing wrong about the DA2 combat imo was the lack of tactical view. It blows my mind that they didn't bring back the AI-behauvior options.

And on Xbox360 where I used to play origins. The tactical aspect was botched by NOT HAVING "MOVE HERE" OPTION AT ALL! So that wasn't very tactical.

All and all, these games feel really similar.

I know the game must be polished, a lot, but would be good to see topics of something that we don't know yet instead of the same thing. Please keep using the already existing topics for community sake, otherwise this forum will only have topics telling the same thing with different words, don't you agree?

DA:O success made some die hard fans as I can see, I'm one as well. It was a masterpiece in most aspects. Most people expected DA2 to be a DAO perfect sequel and WE got disappointed by the "Dragon Age Mass Effected Version", but the truth is, only Mass Effect stayed the same line regarding game style, seems like they have other ideas than the ones we expected to be, but it's done, they want to get all the customers they can get, this is pretty clear by making DAI a more fast paced action combat with a bit o tactics mixed with a RPG, but far from the traditional RPG, which was the most liked feature in DAO IMHO. In this matter my guess is EA > Bioware and between the lines they are saying for the DAO fans "there was no spoon" or "the cake is lie" and "deal with it, we even removed the number 3 and replaced it by the inquisition on the title"

It's all subjective, and if you're playing on Hard/Nightmare - you do require many a tactic

I personally loved DA:O combat, was pretty "meh" on DA2 combat and really love Inquisition's combat... it's more heart pounding when things get tight at the end of a fight...which I love.

...but that's just me, each to their own: etc.

You CAN hold R to attack. Or, for example, whatever the Knight-Enchanter's melee swing is mapped to can be held down to continuously attack too.

Yes, and that's VERY tactical indeed, such joy I find in holding the same button when I'm not spamming the same abilities over and over again. Attack, taunt, attack, taunt, attack, taunt... Attack, barrier, attack, barrier, attack, barrier... It's almost as fun as spamming the 'search' button for the 10.000th time after 50 hours of gameplay...

No, I do not like the controls on PC in Inquistion, and I do not like the new so-called "tactics" menu. I miss the combat controls and the tactics we had in Origins and DA2.

don't forget the 8 skills limit

One thing though, the AI seem to be focused on CCC (cross class combo), they don't lose one opportunity to use it
