So, after some calculations and research (if only I was this dedicated to schoolwork) I have the ages of several characters. First, a few side notes regarding several (but not all) significant events:

9:30 Dragon -

  • the Fifth Blight begins
  • after the Battle of Ostagar, the Hawke family flees the Blight in Ferelden and seeks out refuge in Kirkwall

9:31 Dragon -

9:34 Dragon -

  • Divine Beatrix III succumbs to old age
  • Revered Mother Dorothea is named Divine Justinia V

9:37 Dragon -

  • the mage, Anders, destroys the Kirkwall Chantry, prompting a now insane Knight-Commander Meredith to call for the Circle to be Annulled, and eventually her death at the hands of Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall
  • the events of Kirkwall ultimately end up leading to the Mage-Templar War

9:40 Dragon -

  • Cassandra arrives in Kirkwall and interrogates Varric
  • the Chantry separates itself from the Circle (if Wynne and Shale survived the events of Origins, this is largely, albeit indirectly, because of them)
  • Wynne dies to save Evangeline. If Wynne did not survive the events of Origins, then Evangeline presumably dies
  • Lord Seeker Lambert disappears and is presumed dead. He had been murdered by Cole, the Ghost of the White Spire
  • Lucius is made the new Lord Seeker in Lambert's place
  • after several years of unrest, Grand Duke Gaspard and his forces finally go against Empress Celene
  • in the process of the battle between Gaspard and Celene the elves of Halamshiral are slaughtered, the demon Imshael freed, and the Eluvians activated by Briala

9:41 Dragon -

  • the events of Inquisitions occur (this is proven when Dorian states that 9:42 is a year into the future, however, this also seems to contradict a statement made by Cassandra which can be accessed in certain dialogue in which she states that Lord Seeker Lambert disappeared two years prior)

So, it's been eleven years since the events of Origins first began (i.e. the Warden's conscription and the Battle of Ostagar)/ten years since the events of Origins ended (i.e. the Archdemon was killed and the Fifth Blight ended), and we know the approximate ages of several characters, including:

  • Alistair (born 9:10 Dragon): beginning of Origins - 20; DA2 - 24; DA:I - 31
  • Loghain Mac Tir: I recall him, Marric, and Rowan all being 16 at the beginning of Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne. He'd be about 50 at the beginning of Origins, so, if he is still alive, he's probably around 61
  • Anora Mac Tir: beginning of Origins - at least in her late twenties.
The City Elf is engaged, so I would guess that s/he was around 16, minimum, and likely no older than Alistair (20). That gives about another 26 years to Leliana, putting her somewhere in her 30s in Origins. Add another ten years, she's probably in her 40s.
  • Sera: There is dialogue in which Sera states that when she was a child she had a small, painted, music box. This likey refers to the quest in Origins "Friends of Red Jenny" in which you take Irving's small, painted box and drop it off. This was ten years ago, and Sera claims to have been a child. She is likely in her late teens or, more likely, her early twenties.
  • Mihris: likely around 20 years-old

This long and unnecessary explanation that took me about an hour or so to write was partially for the fun of knowing the characters ages. Sort of like how I freak out in joy whenever I see a character from the book appearing in the games (you should have seen me when I met Mihris  ). It was also to raise a question which I could've just outright asked, but why do that when I can make things more complicated for myself?

Anyway, I guess I just wanna ask you how old you guys think your characters are, either your Wardens or your Inquisitors. I have one Warden I feel like is in her late twenties or early thirties, an Inquisitor in her forties, etc.

So, how old are your characters?

All my Wardens were in their mid-20's as I have a shameless need to make my characters young and hot.

So I suppose they're in their late 30's now. Still hot most likely.

I put my elf Inquisitor at somewhere in her late twenties, I guess. About the same age as me. Putting her much other than that makes me wonder too much about what she did her whole life that kept her single and so willing to just leave her clan behind.

Yeah, but I picture one of mine older because I'm having her romance Solas. My grandma may have been eleven years younger than her husband, but I'm not a big fan of huge age gaps. XD

I guess the dev's said at one point he was in his 40's? But in the game itself, there's no indication, so it doesn't bug me.

The sad thing is, I've figured out how old all my planned Inquisitors will be. I am tragic figure not worth your pity.

Yup. I'll add sources in my first post.

There's no way my Warden was any older than 20 (though I always envisioned her about 22) with the way her clan was pretty much calling her little more than a child, so I'm enjoying the fact they made the Inquisitor a bit more flexible. Nobody's called me 'kid' yet, so that's always nice.

So, how old are your characters?

I think the Wardens are all pretty young during in DAO, although exactly HOW young varies. I always think of my Dalish as the baby, an eighteen-year-old who only got his vallaslin recently. I imagine my city elf is also on the young side, since I doubt people wait too long in the alienages before marrying their kids off. My human and dwarf nobles are a bit older, at twenty-five or so. (Cousland is old enough that her mother has started complaining about the lack of husband and grandkids, and we don't see any indications that Ferelden nobles routinely marry their daughters off at fifteen. Aeducan is responsible enough to be given her first command.) Casteless dwarf is somewhere in between. The ones that are hard to work out are the mages. I guess it depends on when the Harrowing normally happens, so I generally think of them as early twenties at the time of DAO.

As for my Inquisitor (I've only made the one so far) my headcanon is that she's about thirty. There are no external referents to contradict this. (That might be different for a human warrior or rogue Inquisitor, since they're explicitly the baby of the family and their parents wanted them in the Chantry/Templars. You'd think that ship would have sailed long ago by the time they turned forty.)

I really doubt Solas is only 40, even though he looks younger than

Oh, and weren't the Warden mages young by canon?

My Warden Surana was 19 at the beginning of DA:O; he did just have his Harrowing.  And my Hawke was 24 at the beginning of DA2.  My Inquisitor is 36...and yeah, knowing she was going to romance Solas influenced an older age for her.

Well, Solas was confirmed to be that age. I cited it, too, if you don't believe me, and there is nothing to suggest the Warden mage is young. While not necessarily the firstborn child of Revka Amell, the Amell Warden would have to be older than Hawke, who is roughly 24 or 25 at the beginning of Origins. That would mean the human mage is a few years older, and it's not as though that's old, anyway.

Celene looks wayyy older than that in DA:I. Her wrinkly face puts her in her 50s at least unless she's just lived a really hard life with too much booze and sun.

She was 16 when she became empress, and twenty years later the events of The Masked Empire occur, making her 36 at the time, and 37 in Inquisition. This is also confirmed by David Gaider.

Not to mention that Cailan was going to marry her because they feared Anora was barren, and because she was almost 30, which they believed would be too late to bear a child.

Someone who would have been in her 40s at the time definitely wouldn't have been a very good candidate as a new wife and a woman to give birth to an heir.

Wow, seriously? Where'd you find that?

I'm fine with some of my Inquisitors being 22, but others, not-so-much...

Interesting. Currently putting my elfqusitor at 27, my own age.  A teenager when the Blight began, probably just beginning her training as the Keeper's apprentice

Gonna put my m!qunari in his late 30's

I always figured the Warden (regardless of origin) at 20 (give or take 2-3 years), my "main" Inquisitor is 36.

Source? I remember the devs saying that at no point in the game is your character's age ever implied.

I made my main Warden younger, like in his 20s because it fits the role.

My Inquisitor I made to be early 40s in mind because surrounded by powerful milfs, feel most insecure... Imagine a young Inquisitor surrounded by milf like Vivi, Cass, Leliana... They will abuse him; especially Vivi. :P
