Given that the engineer seems to be the least favorite class based on the poll on the homepage I would like to dedicate this thread to all those looking to show the ME universe just what my fellow engineers are made of. I kicked so much **** in ME1 with just a pistol and some kick **** skills.

I will too. I think I'll focus on Incinerate and Overload first. Incinerate dominates Armor like no other. And with Overload, shields will be gone too. Naked enemies ftw

I really would like to ... like.. the ME2 engineer, since that's what I am IRL (both civilan and military), but there's really nothing that compels me to play one over say a Sentinel (my top choice) or even an infiltrator. The drone "pet" doesn't seem that helpful (?). But who knows, time will tell if engineers are actually more fun / can hold their own compared to a Sentinel

YES! YOU ROCK!!!
Another player who appreciates the tactical edge the engineer provides... which is probably why I was able to beat ME1 with just a pistol which seems absurd but the skills were so awesome. Hopefully ME2 provides that same edge to the engineer.

I'm not the biggest ME1 Engineer fan, simply because it had a group of powers that were very Synthetic oriented, meaning if you weren't fighting Geth you were pretty much hosed in terms of talents.
That said I think ME2's engineer is intriguing (I think all the classes for ME2 look intriguing, go specialization!) so I'll be sure to take a crack at it at some point.

Well honestly, in ME1 the Pistol was the most well-rounded, accurate and reliable weapon, so you're hardly the only person to rely exclusively on the Pistol.
That said, I'll definitely be giving the Engineer a whirl in ME2 as my second or third play through (after Vanguard and possibly Sentinel).

It's not my favorite class but I do like the Engineer. I'll be running a combat drone and cyroblast focused engineer for my second playthru of the game.

I have to admit, I found playing the Engineer in ME1 to be far different then I expected. Having listened/read many forums about how much they suck, I found the truth of the matter to be entirely different.
Especially the first time I locked down a Geth Collosus to the point it just stood there until I pinged it to death with my pistol. It's a tactical class, precision striking a must. My only **** with it dealt with a game mechanic (hacking). 3/4's the time I hacked something they would keep attacking me anyway. I found a work around, hack something and then jump in the Mako, making it retarget the nearest enemy, but the Mako isn't always going to be around.
I intend to play an Engineer either on my second or third playthrough (And subsequently romance SuZe). Soldier or Adept first for my Tali romance game. Huzzah.

engineer kicks ass! throw out a combat drone, with cryo freeze and ai hacking! add a little bit of incinerate and overload, very powerful

I'm not sold on the combat drone. It just didn't seem all that great from the videos. I'll give an engineer a ride a couple of plays through, but I'm just not feeling it(which is kinda odd since they were my second favorite class in ME1, Infiltrator being my favorite).

Engineer was my first class in ME1, and I liked it back then, but there were just a few issues with it that made me prefer my Sentinel character. But I'm switching back over for this one. I love summoning stuff, and the changes to AI hacking should make it actually useful. Not to mention the new active powers you get. Seems vastly improved and looks to be tons of fun.

I'll specialize in sweeping.
