Engineers are not the flashiest, but those who understand them will reap the rewards!

Engineers were pretty weak in ME1 on Insanity.

Hey, don't SABOTAGE the thread. We don't need to OVERLOAD it with irrelevent comments.

I was an engineer in ME1 and plan to be one again in ME2! Admittedly, I wish we could have cool tech armor like the sentinels, I'm currently not too keen on the drone and would gladly trade. Then again, I haven't played ME2 just yet, maybe I'll end up thinking the drones are the bee's pajamas.

You could always just get tech stuff for your sentinel and never put points into biotics.

overpowered class so far. 20 hours in. i will say that the drone becomes more effective the higher the difficulty you play =0

I can't wait to start inspiring chaos through through engineering. Anybody have any impressions on whether the drone is good/what powers are worth investing in?

I'm about 5 or 6 hours in. Tons of fun. I'm going heavy on Overload and incinerate right now with a minor in tech skills and drone. I'll invest in AI hack and cryo freeze later when I get more powerful with the skills I want to max out. Lots of fun thus far.

Great job Bioware.

Hey Yakko, I've been doing the same thing. I've been loading up on Overload and Incinerate and am mauling the AI. A lot of people complain how the Engineer is weak by himself, but in this game you control 3 characters so as long as you pick the right complementary teammates, nothing can stop you!

Overload, incinerate, and AI hacking are great abilities. Focus on those three and the main class skill, and the engineer can be very effective. It also helps to train in snipers or assault rifles and use warp ammo as your bonus skill.

The engineers are the John McClain's of Mass Effect. They're usually in over their heads, yet against all odds, always seem to manage to pull out the tools and turn things around.

While most chime in to the belief that if it aint broke don't fix it ;  to an engineer, if it aint broke, that simply means that it just doesn't have enough gadgets yet.

I always liked the Engineer. They were good for Neural Shock, AI Hacking and Dampen, not to forget Overload and Sabotage. The pistol was always quite good with Marksman. I'll get my chance to see how the ME 2 Engineer stacks up this afternoon when it arrives, well I hope it does.

Still waiting for a response on how does the drone stack up? Decent damage or just a distraction?

I've only played for 4 hours and my barely upgraded drone is smacking the AI up (I'm only playing on normal for my first play through). I hear the drone sucks at higher level difficulties, but I'll have to test that out for myself. As long as you control your teammates well, it seems like every class should be viable.

So far my Drone is being used to push enemy out of cover. Don't really know what the true strengths of these Drones are yet.

My first playthrough on ME1 was to be a sentinel, but I didn't like the way she looked, so I deleted her and decided to give an Engineer a try. I was only playing on normal, but it wasn't bad at all. Though I don't know if I could have handled it well on Insanity. She did get to 50 (was capped) and such.

Then I played a sentinel, which is my favorite of the two. I didn't finish his second playthrough yet, so I went with my engineer to start this game. Started on Veteran... a bit tough. Trying to get used to the class. Seems a bit weak to me, but maybe I need to focus more in one skill at a time.

What are some good companions? I was thinking maybe Grunt and Jack? I only have Miranda, Jacob, Mordin, and Garrus at the moment.

Any tips for using AI Hacking?

I've found it useful in areas with combat drones, but against tougher enemies like big mechs it's not very useful.

perhaps I'll use it more once I start fighting some geth.
