I got nerco...then i repec'd to mostly the full tree and now my mage is 50x weaker...Just use inferno, immolate, fire mine...nothing comes close to this damage and besides the game is so easy...i found it worthless to spec in nercomancers.. This game really needed about 4-6 weeks more polish. Too easy, frame rate suttering, no combat log, combat WAY to fast...But I guess EA pushed it out.

You can keep you fire abilities and spec into Necromancer for cool abilities like Walking Bomb and Spirit Mark, which piles on even more AoE damage and gives you a pet.

Necromancer is the most underwhelming of the 2 specializations, though.  Roll Knight-Enchanter to literally become and unkillable tank, or Rift Mage for the best AoE CC in the game and unlimited mana.

yeap i went from loving necro mage to hating it.

necromage just doesn't have as much life* as the others.

*intentional pun**

**it was also an intentionally bad pun.

Too easy? What difficult level are you playing? What level are you and the enemies you face at?
Also I am pretty sure a Knight Enchanter or a Tempest Rogue can out damage Inferno, Immolate, and Fire Mine based Mage. Some other builds might come close, too.

loot is a massive part of the difficulty which is why random drops suck.

i've seen people playing with masterworks gear well over 150 DPS at lower lvls then i am and i'm rolling with one that only does 109.

basically i still have a lvl 11 unique staff at lvl 17 i can't make anything better i can't buy anything better i can't modify anything to be better and can't buy anymore plans there's nothing new available as such i'm gimped to all hell.

and yet everyone else in my crew is rolling with gear that does over 200DPS all i keep getting is ****** rogue and warrior drops. randomly i'll get some 89DPS staff that i can't pimp to more than 109 no matter what.

varrics basically a demi god FFS

I didn't really do anything special, but I can craft weapons with 175-200dmg. Havent really looked into crafting yet but I guess I found good schematics?

And I play a Knight-Enchanter, which is pretty nice seeing as you can almost keep your barrier up 24/7

Yeah necro is very underwhelming compared to KE and RM, which are two of the best specs in the game across all classes.

the point of Necromancer spec is to bet all on heavy aoe dps and use the passive mana and health regen to keep yourself going, meaning best synergizes with fire tree.

get kills flowing and necro is pretty good and prly highest on dps (as long as you have always multiple targets to be nuked down fast together), if you arnt playing on nightmare and if you arnt playing with friendly fire at least.

the point of Knight Enchanter is to give you survivability through barriers and make you tanky and melee capable, it synergizes well with ice for extra tanking and crowd control to be a offtank crowd controller for good party support or with fire to make strong dps while having the ability to survive the agro that it causes (and the barrier provides damage boost to your fire spells too)

this makes it the a good specialization for playing nightmare, because survival capacity is pretty much crucial.

the point of rift mage is to provide extra party support with weakened debuff and added crowd control (wich in term facilitates aoe'ing too) while still having a strong burst nuke and aoe ultimate.

it complements a spirit - winter mage very well for making the ultimate party support-crowd controller and is pretty much the best option for playing a nightmare+friendly fire run because it helps alot with controlling the aoe while debuffing enemies, tho it doesnt give survivability like enchanter does so you need to keep agro and attackers at bay.

made this short class efficiency guide that mentions this:

If you want to be a mass "nuker" and control the Battlefield. A fire Rift mage, gets the job done.

Rift weakens enemies having them take more damage and deal less damage. A pull of the Abyss to grab the enemies and then pop an upgraded firemine under the butts and just watch how their health melt away 3,200% weapon damage. Not just ONE enemy but several. Why not smack them with an immolate while you're at it and a stone fist to the face.

Then factor in all the passives that gives you a helluva lot of mana supply and low cooldowns and you can spam spells left and right.

I honestly think overall that must be one of the most damaging classes. Rogues can do huge bursts on single targets. Rift Mage can do a lot of damage to a LOT of enemies at once. Meaning overall you can kill things faster.

Well fire mine and immolate have cooldowns lots of time to use other abilities.

Not to mention walking bomb will do vastly more damage than even fire mine unless you can't kill anything. Most fights with my necro end in about 5 seconds with everything exploding.

Necro I think is a little unappreciated.

Just keeping burning dot and walking bomb on a target is 400% weapon damage a second. Throw in Horror for 50% more. Basically AOE as well. That basically a Stone Fist every second.

Mana can be an issue but unlike the other two Mage specs Necro does not actually need to spam spells. Burning and Walking Bomb will kill enemies on their own.

Needs more testing.

This is not a good summary of rift mage. Rift Mage does more than twice the damage of the next best spec, Knight Enchanter. Actually it's probably more like 3x. He's great for aoe and crowd control but he is also amazing at single target damage as well, because with the fire passive that lets you lose 1s cooldown per spell cast, and the Rift Mage passive that gives you mana when you do damage, you can cast nonstop for a really long time. By correctly chaining spells like Stone Fist and Energy Barrage, you can have effectively infinite mana and you can cast Fire Mine once every 4-5s, which is the highest damage/mana spell in the game. Rift Mage is more fragile than KE, but still extremely survivable because he will have really good barrier uptime and short fade step cooldown.

Mana can be an issue but unlike the other two Mage specs Necro does not actually need to spam spells. Burning and Walking Bomb will kill enemies on their own.

Not if you take Winter Stillness.

I tried many Necro builds and if you want to go the nuke road then the best one by far is taking selected skills from all lines and not go for Spirit Mark if not far in the game (I even skip it altogether but I take Death Syphon that surely helps for mana and in tandem with Winter Stillness, Clean Burn and Flashpoint permits you to spam spells, similar to what happens with Rift Mage).

You need Winter Stillness from Winter, Flashpoint and Clean Burn from Fire, Conductive Current and Static Cage (to confine targets) from Lightning and then you take all the best damaging spells from the various lines all upgraded (Immolate, Fire Mine, Chain Lightning, Barrage, Winter's Grasp) and tie with it Walking Bomb. It becomes the ultimate nuking build.

With crowd of enemies it is by far the most powerful build. The only problem is that it lacks the survivability that both KE and Rift have. It is a pure glass cannon build. For people that like to nuke this is the way to go (even better than Rift mage).

Going Necro instead than a pure non-spec build is good for WB that is a very powerful spell and reason enough to get the spec if you want to go the nuke road. Nothing beats WB against crowd of enemies and it is by far the most powerful spell in that situation (just like in DA:O Blood Wound was reason enough to get the BM spec). It is surely not a spec for everyone and it is the one of the three that requires the most knowledge of skill synergies but if your preferred playstyle is staying far and nuke the hell out of everyone then Necro is the way to go (with Rift you can do the same but it is more centered on CC than pure nuking as it lacks the ultimate nuking spell: WB).

For Rift mage if you want to take advantage of being an AoE god:

Pull of the abyss

Veil strike

Stonefist

Chain lightning

Immolate

Winter's grasp

Barrier

-Either ultimate or a utility spell of choice-

Grab Winter Stillness, Flashpoint, and Clean burn. Completely fill out the Rift mage tree. You can now spam infinitely and constantly. Open with pull of the abyss to group things up, hit them with chain lightning -> immolate -> Winter's grasp -> Stone fist -> Veil strike as they stand up. Repeat. Win at life.
