So, is it just me, or does it feel like there aren't enough towns in this game.  I mean in DA:O you had Redcliffe, Denerim, the Ward Keep, Haven (briefly) Orzammar, the Dalish Camp.  In DA2 you had this huge city of Kirkwall.

This game spans 2 countries and you only have Val Royeaux, Skyhold and Redcliffe (which the layout is TOTALLY differnt from DA:O).

I just think that there should be more.  To me, it makes the world feel less real.  DA:O did a great job with all these cities and then their just all gone except for a few mentions in War Table operations.  I guess the thing that bothers me is the lack of stores in this game.  DA:O had tons of them, and even if you didn't always find great stuff, there were a few shops that had some stuff you could use.  But this game, with the emphasis on crafting, could have used towns and shops so much more.  Each town could have had it's own unique crafting stuff to sell and what not.

Just one man's opinion I guess.

DAI differs from the previous two in that there's less urban environments, and more focus on the wilderness. Which is cool, and they did a beautiful job of it. But I'd have to agree with you that I would've really liked to see more cities/villages. Exploring civilized environments makes the world feel more real to me because thats how you experience the people and their culture.

I do feel that the sparcity of city/village exploration does make me feel a bit removed from how much the conflicts are affecting the people of Thedas, because I see more bears and demons than I see civilians. Having more to do with concentrated communities I think would make the adventures feel a bit more human.
