Before everyone rips me apart, I don't advocate there suddenly being tons of timesinks in an already very long game. That being said, I would have loved to see something like the Emerald/Ruby Weapons from FF7 - e.g. bosses/challenges that are much more difficult than anything in the main storyline (no, dragons do not fit this bill in their current state or come even close) that reward and potentially even require completionists who have leveled to ~25. Optional collect quests like the shards that yield the opportunity to fight what are optional hidden bosses would have been a lovely way to appease the hardcore types while not detracting from the regular story experience.

To wit, things like collecting all the shards, the reward is pretty paltry relative to the effort. Further, a common complaint is that even on nightmare the game is pretty easy for many seasoned DA:O players (certainly relative to the prior outings), this could be rectified moreso by adding in some challenges for the truly masochistic rather than rescaling difficulty across the entire game.

Ruby and Emerald really aren't that hard if you know what you're doing/are properly equipped, just like the dragons in this game.

Zu - In retrospect yes, at the time they required a lot of experimentation as it related to strategy to figure out what it was that worked and to get the necessary equipment (farming the mimic 3 times, finding KOTR, etc.). The dragons here on the other hand are all carbon copies of one another where the same strat is used for all them (with Vistral representing a slightly more challenging fight because of his electricity mark).

I'm just saying that you can still steamroll them with the right loadout. A better example might be Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts, who requires the best equipment in the game just to have a chance and can two-hit KO you even with that equipment.

Yeah the only reason they are famous for their challenge is because the internet wasn't as big of a thing back then so noone knew any of the OP ways to annihilate them,
