I CANNOT PLAY INQUISTION!

I have just received today the hard copy version Deluxe Edition of Dragon Age Inquistion.

Which incidentally I had to order from Amazon.com in the U.S. because there were no retailers in the UK that sold the hard copy. The Deluxe Edition is only available here in the UK as a digital download.

As I have both Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Awakening in hard copy, I wanted  Inquisition in that format too.

Anyway it has meant that I have had to wait with greater anticipation the extra week to get my hands on the game.

Guess what folks?? The game won't run!!

I got it installed at 11am this morning and I have spent the whole day (it is now 9pm) trying to get the ****** thing to run without success.

I get as far as the opening scene with the soldiers and enchanters walking down the road and the 'Press any Key' and it freezes.

A couple of times I got to the game menu and options screen (whooppee!) - then it hangs :(( :((

I have run the game as Aministrator

I have re-installed DirectX (correction - I tried to but was told I had the newest version already installed)

I have re-installed Microsoft Visual C+

I have re-installed .Net Framework 4.5

I have checked that I have the latest Nvidia drivers

I deleted and re-installed Origins

I disabled Origins In Game

I have re-installed Dragon Age Inquistion

I have run Repair Game and file check within Origin

Disabled any overlays

Run the game as Aministrator (several times!)

My system specification is as follows: Intel Core Extreme CPU X9650 3.00Ghz Quad Core, 8.00Gb DDR3 memory, Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 Ti, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Which I think most would agree satisfies at least the minimum requirements for the game.

Can ANYONE tell me why this game I paid £66.00 for will not run??

Invisman (VERY annoyed and disappointed)

Huh, that is weird. I wonder if you have an outlier case with that CPU. Not that it isn't fast enough but the odds they tested the game on one of those are pretty slim.

You  seem to have covered all the bases. Are you overclocking? If so, have you tried resetting to default?

Hi Crisco,

No I am not overclocked. The CPU is pretty old now, so I cannot see that it would be a CPU that would have Bioware testing their game against.

I am running games like Watch_Dogs and Company of Heroes 2 at max without any problems.

I have a funny suspicion it could be Origin that is at fault. A number of people have posted that Inquistion ran fine until Origin ran an update a few days ago.

But when I switched the In Game off, Origin is still running when the game boots. In fact when I deleted Origin, prior to re-installing it I tried to run Inquistion but it requested that I install Origin. So no luck there :(

post over on the technical support sub-forum, there are mods there and one of them should pop into your thread to help

Folks, maybe posting in all caps displeases you but I'm sure that's nothing next to the agony of being unable to play the game the OP spent a fair chunk of change on and is no doubt excited to experience. I humbly suggest not making his/her day even worse.

As a matter of fact I happen to think Comic Sans is an attractive font and is not the issue under discussion.

Unless you have something constructive or helpful to say then keep your facile comments to yourself.

Have you tried running any other game recently? Is it only inquisition that is doing this?

Heck, it could be anything. I recently had BSODS and system hangs thanks to an antivirus program.

Thank you JeffZero.

Actually I deliberately used caps as my header to express my frustration and anger at not being able to play the game I have been waiting months to play.

Also I hoped to attract the attention of someone at BioWare who might be able to help me ;)

I am afraid the folks at EA do not even know what Dragon Age is let alone how to help solve any probems, so I thought I would go to the source for some help.

Hi NeoNoms,

I am in the middle of Company of Heroes 2 - The Ardennes which is pretty CPU and GPU intensive. I am running it at max and have had no problems. Ditto Wasteland 2 which a few people appear to have had problems with. Again I am running at max no problem.

I'm surprised more people haven't chimed in as I thought this was a known issue. I think the working theory is it has something to do with connecting to Dragon Age servers at the opening screen. It has happened to me a couple of times but not repeatedly enough to prevent me from playing. I hope they fix this soon.

Wow, that is just so weird. So, you can install it no problem. Have you tried running it in offline mode? Just turn your whole internet connection off to see and see how that goes. I've had the game completely freeze twice in game and once I started lagging very badly and I eventually got the "connection lost" message.

I see great minds think alike, Widgit :D

Hi Widgit,

It does appear to be a problem on quite a few forums I have read today.

I think in my case it hangs after connecting to the server. If memory serves me correct the "connecting to servers" screen comes up first then the opening screen where you see the soldiers and mages and I think it then says "click to continue". It is a few seconds after that the game hangs.

Don't know if this will solve things for you...

I was unable to play the game because it was constantly crashing sometimes before I even finished loading a save and I'd get a DirectX error. Anyway what ended up fixing it, and I haven't crashed or had any problems loading since, was to lower the memory clock on my graphics card with Afterburner, according to nvidia's specs for the card - in my case the gtx 480.

Hi Neonoms and Widgit,

I unplugged my modem but the game will not load because Origin cannot get a connection to log me in to play the game.

Hi FrogDog

I am not sure, but was your card overclocked? Mine is not overclocked it is still at factory settings and I have not been having DirectX error messages. I cannot get that far into the game.

I'm sure this is an issue that will be resolved in the first patch

UPDATE

I can now play Inquisition YAY!!

The answer to my problem was to go into MSCONFIG and uncheck ALL Nvidia related items.

Hope this might be of use.
