I have recently completed a promotion of my Alchemist and I thought it kicked ass. Might be because of my OP daggers but I think it could work for anyone.

Skills:

Stealth

Elemental mines

Flask of fire

Shadow Strike

Of course you Upgrade all these skills, and dont get any other skills, all passives.

Passives:
(of course everyting that leads up to Flask of fire and Shadow strike)

I was never here (I use it after almost every kill)
...everything that gets rid of aggro and increase the duration of Flask of Fire, other then that its free Choice.

Now, it really is a no brainer but how to effectively use your mine+fire flask combo is key here. I thought that Shadow Strike would reset Fask of fire effectively but it rarely actually did refresh my CD on anything else than the mines so not as effective as I hoped, but it still is totally Worth to get. Now I usually go into the big fights, spam the mines and go for the Archers afterwards to stop them from damaging my team. Obviously when you reach stage 5 you just gather inside the room and spam mines outside the door and flank anything that comes through. This way you can almost single handedly hold the entrance on your own on threatening (assuming that you have good DPS).

I thought it was a very fun and sneaky to play this way. Sometimes you can make some insane chainexplosions happen that cathes tons of enemies. At one point me and my team entered a chest room after I had spammed mines outside. Someone seemed to have aggroed a large Group nearby who proceeded to walk over my mines. While opening the chest I heard the explotions and suddenly I had a kill streak of 13..... :)

Again, great build and once you get the hang of it its actually quite easy. Just remember that you are NOT a tank. Once you start to get hit, you leave behind a wall or something to reenter the fight stealthed.

I like your build idea. Do you mind showing where you distribute your skill pts?

I guess I build my guy a bit different :)

Active Skills:

Flank Attack

Poisoned Weps

Toxic Cloud

Stealth

^ each maxed

Key Passives are 25% poison duration / I Was Never Here - Stealth CD on kill reset / 15% damage redux when you crit to your target... / Explosive toxin

Often have 3+ clouds up and you're constantly keeping damage bonuses up by stealths cd being reset.  Flank Attack lets you hop around the field quickly too and puts out decent damage.  Usually let someone pull then take out every ranged class...  Fairly defensive having stealth CD reset so often as well.

I'm on my 6th incarnation of the alchemist now and have tried out several variations of skill sets and play styles. I've done the elemental mine/ fire flask build (fun but inefficient), mines/ poison cloud (not overly effective in most pug's due to time to kill and other peoples play styles), and a few different stealth builds with slightly different variations (poison weapons, concussion grenade, frost/ fire flask combo, etc..)

The "assassin" play style of using stealth with the cooldown removal on kills has for me personally have been by far the most effective builds for the class... Especially at higher difficulties where you will die VERY quickly if you don't watch your aggro or have some kind of escape mechanism to break aggro and bail you out of a bad situation.

I like to use shadow strike as my main offensive skill... Despite it being buggy sometimes and not reseting your steath cooldown I still think it is the best attack the alchemist gets. It hits hard... Knocks most enemies on their butt (if you don't 1 shot them) and the 4 second cooldown reduction when flanking is a nice bonus. It's just too much fun being in stealth, uppercutting some poor unsuspecting mob running your way and watching them fly through the air dead while you pop back into stealth before they even hit the ground... Good times

I absolutely love frost flask and have used it my past 3 builds and at this point couldn't imagine anything replacing it in my skill set. The freeze ability is a lifesaver for both you and your group when used situationally and can be used to set up a combo with your uppercut to take out high hp mobs in one shot. The 85% damage reduction is very handy when you need that defensive boost if your steath gets bugged and you get unwanted aggro or you get archers that decide they are going to still target and continue to shoot at you while you are in stealth. Frost flask can be used both offensively and defensively and it's saved my butt or helped my team out in a tough situation too many times to count.

So that leaves me with stealth, shadow strike, and frost flask as three of my 4 skills. The 4th skill is somewhat optional. Poison weapons is nice for the added damage (especially vs bosses when it is the only time it really has the opportunity to tick for the full effect). I tried the fire & frost flask combo which works *pretty well... It's fun to pop fire flask and spam shadow strike to take out a group or to chain punch a boss and take a nice chunk of his health out... But it feels clunky to me most of the time. Even with the passives that add damage and boost the duration of your flasks it still doesn't feel "right" to me or like it's as good as it should be for some reason.

My personal favorite 4th skill with this build has been concussion grenade. Pop out of stealth, kill the priority target (Mage, assassin, etc.) when your group engages, toss the concussion grenade into a group of mobs and take them out of the fight, slip back into stealth and systematically kill the rest... It's another great offensive/ defensive skill that can save your butt and helps your group by making battles easier (taking 3 or 4 archers out of the fight helps tremendously and many classes get the auto crit on sleeping enemies passive which makes short work of those guys that are taking a snooze). From my own personal experience and play style this has been the best skill to fill that last slot and feels to "work" the best for the benefit of your setup and your group.

That's my 2 cents at least... Just giving my feedback from my experience with playing the alchemist. Definitely one of my favorite classes to play and I have promoted her many more times then any of the other classes. I wouldn't say there is any wrong way to play the class and there are many viable setups that can all work very well... but the build above has been the strongest and most group friendly for me. You bring a lot of utility and damage to the group and when played intelligently you are a real asset to your group. It's really a fun class and can be extremely powerful with the right gear and when played well. Hope everyone else is having as much fun playing her as I have been. Best of luck!

So that leaves me with stealth, shadow strike, and frost flask as three of my 4 skills. The 4th skill is somewhat optional.

On my third playthrough with the Alchemist, I'm using something similar. The fourth skill I went with is Twin Fangs.

The 4 sec cd reduction on all skills from Shadow Strike - if flanking an opponent - means you can use a Twin Fangs - Shadow Strike - Twin Fangs combo in about 4 or 5 seconds, which is nice for either detonating your freeze, or getting in a bit of damage quickly on a wave 5 boss.

It feels like an assassin, with less damage but a bit more tanky. I haven't tried it above threatening though, I don't know if it would work well in perilous without 400+ dps daggers.

Currently going with a toxic cloud, stealth, flask of frost and twin fangs build.

Paired with a keepers lightning cage, i wield lightning enchanted daggers, stealth into the middle, drop a cloud. Chop suey enemies and pop a flask of frost to freeze and shatter enemies with twin fangs.

Not optimal, but very fun !

My next build im going to try a tempest skirmisher, using both flasks, twin fangs and flank attack. I doubt i could take this beyond threatening however, but tempests are now my most favourite non mage specs.

Was going to try a build with knockout bomb, however id assume with all the aoe attacks and playing with pugs the skill would be not as useful ...right?

Currently running flask of fire, poison blades, stealth and elemental mines.

I have had a lot of success with knockout bomb though so i definitely recommend that.

Thanks. In the process of levelling to promote her, so will give knockout bomb a shot.

Your current build, which difficulty are you playing it with?

Perilous/threatening if leveling.

Interesting fact: every elemental mine has a chance to proc dagger abilities. I currently use Walking death and Gift of the Talon, which means that there will be hidden blades and walking bomb explosions everywhere. The walking bomb explosion can trigger the hidden blades as well. An even better choice for the mainhand dagger might be Agony.

I remember Penguin saying that using poisoned weapons will make the mines apply poison DoT as well. Not sure if I remember correctly though.

I see more and more people use the fire flask/mines build. I do remember most saying mines was a waste of skill slots and too situational a few weeks ago.

I have ditched one of the mines or flasks in favour of shadow strike recently.  SS is just too valuable.

I am also curious about this skill and if it boosts the length of your potion effects (frost and fire)... Or if it only lengthens the status effects triggered by elemental mines, etc,..

Alchemy Mastery means status effects , means:

Frozen, Chilled, Shocked, Burning, Poisoned.

This means your poison on enemy will last longer. Your spell on dagger duration will not change.

This means status effects from elemental bombs and frost flask will last longer, and this is important perk for ones who take frost flask.

HEEEELLLPP!!!  So does this mean that ALCHEMY MASTERY will increase the toxic cloud duration?  Yes it no?

Got one of those, which was the only reason I spe'd into toxic cloud.

The question is does the flask skill increase the duration further?

Fire Flask + Twin Fang spam seems like it could be devastating to single targets.

Except you could only land about 2 or 3 of those before the effect runs out, due to that animation. Not to mention the poor tracking on Twin Fangs on targets, same with Shadow Strike, only SS is a bit better than TF.

This Build is successful at keeping me alive in threatening mode:

1. Stealth with lost in shadows upgrade and 'I was never here' skill.

2. Shadow Strike w/ Quickblade upgrade

3. Flask of Frost w/ Bitter Chill upgrade

4. Flask of Fire w/ Unquenchable Flames upgrade

I always begin battles by stealthing and running to the back lines to begin tearing their ranged attackers apart.  They have low hp's and you can go back into hiding after each kill for bounus damage on next target.  Plus taking out the ranged attackers really helps your party out.  After the ranged attackers are dead I hit up Flash of Frost and charge into battle.  Flask of Frost is also very helpful against tank like enemies with high hp's because it will freeze most enemies.  Flask of Fire I use once all my other abilities are on cooldown and I'm desperate for another kill to go back into stealth mode.  Plus Flask of Fire is useful against enemy assassins.

I also always work on taking out ranged attackers in the final stage.  The stealth skill comes in handy for reviving teamates as well because you lose all aggro when u go stealth mode.

Any suggestions/changes? Let me know what you think.

I am currently using a build of frost and fire flasks, with elemental mines and shadow strike. It can be hard to transition to stop using stealth, but all you really need to do is not be the first person in the encounter. Lead with fire and mines everywhere, if you get in trouble use the frost and shadowstrike for instant kill combos.
