Gaspard is obviously far nicer than Celene. I mean, he is always supportive of you, there are no Disadvanatges for the Inquisition, if you stand by the Side. And that's what counts, right?

And the fact he want to make  Orlais go to war with everyone is not an issue?

This is particularly relevant if you're playing a human in DAI.. as Gaspard has designs to invade Ferelden once he becomes emperor (stated in Masked Empire novel, don't think it's mentioned in the game).

That said, Celene and Briala are just as evil and monstrous. Both have committed horrific atrocities that sadly only really comes to light if you read the novel. If my inquisitor had the choice I'd have executed all 3 of them for crimes against sentient life forms and put the court jester as emperor .. because that would actually be an improvement over those 3 horrible alternatives.

Given the epilogue regarding this resolution, I'm not entirely convinced it is the best one. Gaspard is the viper at Celine's breast, the elves are in open revolt, and Celine is only managing to keep her throne because she clutches so tightly to her alliance with the Inquisition. The Orlesian leadership is very much up for grabs there. Seems like it might actually be better to consolidate power with only one of the contenders, since the three for all clearly doesn't work.

Both of my playthroughs so far, I ended up with 9 statues and was missing one at that door.

I'm not so sure. She appears to be in her late thirties. So she's about to hit menopause (woman during that time period entered menopause around 40 years old instead of 50 as they do now).

I simply meant that all of them were unlikely to conceive a strong heir (Gaspard would probably croak before he/she came of age), Celene is simply more likely to live longer and stall the inevitable succession crisis.

Sorry to semi-necro this thread but I have just got to the ball today and...fed up does not describe it.  Bloody Orlesians. ><  I genuinely can't make up my mind what is the 'best' option here, because all 3 of them are just awful, quite frankly.  Gaspard is more decisive, but it's clear he intended to make a move on Celene at the peace talks, and I'm not completely convinced he wasn't working with his devious sister.  He also potentially poses more of a threat to Ferelden, although I gather that can be resolved via the war table.  Briala's goal of representation for the elves is a noble one which I would support, but she's willing to throw some of her own people under the bus to get there and protect her own reputation and power.  Not to mention, her history with Celene leaves things complicated.  And Celene herself has been weak enough to cause a civil war, and despite being theoretically 'progressive' and peaceful, burned down the Alienage.

I haven't read any of the novels so I don't have that to go on and don't necessarily want it to factor into my decision.  But...what is the best play, here?  I can't even figure out how to support Gaspard if I want to - I can get all 3 of them to work together, I can get Celene and Briala to reconcile, or I can get Celene to rule alone with Gaspard either exiled or executed, but I can't for the life of me find how to put him on the throne.  Do I let Florianne assassinate Celene for that to happen, is that the only way?  And does anyone know what happens for Ferelden, and for the elves, if Celene and Briala reconcile?  I've seen the other endings but can't find anything on that one.

Ok rant over.  Well, here.  I shall continue ranting quietly about Orlesians in the privacy of my own home.

Celene+Briala is the strongest ending of Orlais period. It gives an Elven noble and true peace provided you had a high approval rating (which is quite easy)

Not siding with Celene will either give a solo Emperor or a puppet to Briala, both not good options.

This option also gives you chance to get best loot :)

To everyone saying Gaspard never betrays the Inquisition:

This was my favorite ending. I don't recall the bit in the epilogue about uprising elves. I'm wondering if your approval was lower? Mine was at max and I'm 99% sure my epilogue did not say this. It said Orlais was mostly at peace. Celene was seen as weak and relying too heavily on the inquisition to protect her because Gaspard and Briala are always at her back.

Took me an hour to try the trellis. I finished saving celene but the other two got exiled. I got the feeling gaspard got setup but i didnt care as much as ishould have based on that. My dance went well and finished with 80+ approval

In my completed playthroughs I've saved Celene and in the process gotten Gaspard executed and/or exiled. I've also allowed Celene to be executed and later placed Gaspard on the throne with Briala pulling the strings as the real power behind the throne. Three completions thus far!

For my next run through, I really hope that I can pull this particular ending off? I do think that this is the best ending possible, with one caveat. The Inquisitor should finish the ball by dancing with the romance of his/her choice!

Nice Job in getting them to work together.

I for one am not for this ending, while it sounds good in theory, I have a feeling its just a temporary fix until Gaspard throws another tantrum.

I end up executing Gaspard and reuniting B. and C.

Yeah, they ARE all guilty but to me Gaspard only seems to care about getting the throne. At least with executing Gaspard, all Celene has to worry about is Briala and she really is not much of a threat.

I cannot see myself allowing Celene to be assassinated and Gaspard take the throne for the reasons above, but also just in case word got out and The Inquisition knew about the assassination and did nothing to stop it but allowed it to happen. Well at least that is how I play my character, make sure The Inquisition does not end up with stuff that may bite them in the ass down the road.

Over thinking it? Maybe, maybe not. Suppose will see.

I sided with Briela subconciously, or something. I don't know I everytime side with her. Not having to fight Florianne and emberass her in front of court signifies the best ending for me. I love that you can force her to wear ugly clothes and serve as a court jester.  :D Don't know who came up with that but I think it's hilarious.

Celene and Briala are the strongest I think.

You can do some much CHANGE with THE ELUVIANS.It's like teleportation.Imagine the things this can do to a society.Trade, travel, etc.

Eluvians OP.

Celene and Briala together can do so much.Their unity represents a unity between humans and elves that they will strive towards building. Also, Celene will likely do so many cultural and social reforms + The Eluvians will give them economic prosperity.

It actually better because all three finally agrees to stop trying to kill each other. The Civil War ends and now all three work together to make Orlais a better place that they alone could not accomplice unless all three worked together.

You obviously didn't read our hear the epilogue. They end up back where they started. Celene reconcile with briala may be the best

The best ending for this isn't forcing all three to work together, it's reconciling Briala and the Empress while Gaspard gets his head lopped off for being a bad cousin. Stable Orlais, improved situation for the elves, alliance with the inquisition. Everyone is happy. Except Gaspard. But he attacked the palace, which is positively rude so he deserved it.

This. I've looked at all the ending slides and Celene + Briala is the best, Celene or Gaspard alone is probably second best. All 3 working together, despite taking the most work, leaves events right back where we started.

I think Gaspard provides the best outcome for the Inquisition, though the worst one for Orlais.

The best for the Inquisition is the truce, you became the real power behind the throne since Celene depends on you to stay there, Gaspard cannot go against you because you have the proof of his plan to attack Celene and neither Briala can go against you because you have the proof she was Celene's pet.

Reconciling Celene and Briala is the best ending imo. There's no real downside to it: you have a stable Orlais, elves get more rights, Briala is being raised to noble status, alliance with the inquisition, lovers are reunited...everyone is happy! Except Gaspard. But he started a civil war for no good reason, so he deserved it.

The way I take it best ending is depending on your goal

Best for Orlais as a Super Power (and able/willing to help if Qunari Invade): Gaspard alone with the rabbit blackmailed/executed

Best for Orlais as beacon of progressiveness: Celene and Briala Reconciled

Best for Inquisition's Power: The Truce

I'm still bitter about how you reconcile Briala and Celene

to go more into specifics, i tried to do that.  it kind of worked. Briala was pardoned for her crimes and Celene banished her.  so i figured that was the reconciliation ending

but nope

why in the world should you have to show Celene/Briala the necklace when the game makes it clear that it's for blackmailing?  I mean, i had the necklace, i got it out of them that they were in a relationship at one point. so why in the world was that not enough?  I thought the level was also teaching you to keep all of your cards hidden so i figured telling someone "hey, i found Celene's blackmail item!" to Celene would be going agianst that?

ugh, interesting level and cool concept. but just overall bad execution IMO

The only thing I'm worried about a reunited Celene and Briala is if their progressiveness leads them (or mostly Briala) to allowing the Qunari in Southern Thedas. Don't the City Elves envy the Qun, or something like that?

This is not the best ending at all in my opinion.

I chose this path and during the ending credits morrigan says that right after Corypheus' defeat the civil war starts once again because they fail to reach an agreement.

"Thanks" to person who adviced me to read Masked Empire. I guess that was the last time I wasted my effort on saving Celine:(

As much as I like Ferelden, I'm not going to babysit it for 20+ more games, so I guess I will have to risk and see what trouble will Gaspard end up causing.

I actually couldn't get all three to work together because one particular statue(I think the one in the kitchen? If I remember correctly, its sitting atop something above the usual sight line) I couldn't reach.

I kept trying to grab it but the game kept denying me, so I had to abandon it. Had I been able to pick it up, I believe I would've won all three of them over.

Instead, I ended up with solely Celene being in charge.

If anything, I'll fix this in the Keep before the next game comes round.
