If there is a next game, we will not be able to play the Inquisitor (at least, not from what the developers have said about the Inquisitor's story being done with), so even should the romance arc be concluded (whether "happy" or "sad" or not), we'll be less connected to that conclusion.  We'll only be seeing it second- or third-hand, maybe not even on screen but more as a codex entry/letter/etc. through whatever character we're playing at that point.

Ideally, I'd prefer if we had a dual protagonist game, where maybe the Inquisitor, even if he/she isn't adventuring any longer, is used in handling some aspects of the game, and the new protagonist is the one who goes out adventuring.  Then, we could follow the Inquisitor in a nice little cutscene, and control him/her in that confrontation with Solas.

Those of us who romanced Solas are not the only ones invested in seeing the outcome between Solas and the Inquisitor.  Whether you loved him, hated him, or were friends with him in your playthrough(s), the connection between the Inquisitor and Solas is personal in a way that it cannot be between Solas and a new protagonist.  As such, it would be most meaningful if the player were able to handle that interaction how they choose to, and that means a nice cut scene.  But realistically, the developers are going to want to spend their resources primarily on our new protagonist, and that makes it less likely we'll get a moving cutscene and more likely we'll see it wrapped up in text via codex, a letter, or even an ending slide if Solas is truly the Big Bad of DA4.

I agree. Anything but the Inquisitor reappearing somehow and resolving the conflict with Solas would make very little sense to me, narrative-wise.

No matter how you look at it, if your Inquisitor hates, is friends with, or loves Solas or even wants to join him in his plan, this is personal - and while a new protagonist would be more than welcome to fix that mess with Thedas standing on the brink of utter chaos or even destruction yet again, I think that having the new protagonist resolve the conflict with Solas would destroy the history that was established for him in the base game and Trespasser. It would cheapen his characterization and development, if not throw it overboard entirely. The new protagonist wouldn't have any emotional investment in a confrontation with him, and Solas, on the other hand, would have no reason whatsoever to reveal his inner strife to them. He would become just another standard antagonist with no emotional ties to the hero who has to be stopped from destroying the world, but that's it. Not so different from the Darkspawn or Coryphishite, but maybe with a little less incoherent rambling.

Bottom line: The narrative and emotional build-up in Trespasser would be completely wasted and pointless, and I really don't want that to happen.

As for how it will be resolved... well. I guess the dual-protagonist thing would be great, but I think it would take a good deal of courage from BioWare's part to try that, not only with regards to resources, but the narrative as well. Though it'd be cool to see at least the first chapters played by the Inquisitor, which would be a nice connection to the previous game.

The quickest (and cheapest) way to resolve it, however, would indeed be through a codex entry/letter/whatever, though... I don't really see that happening (but this may just be wishful thinking). The Inquisitor's relationship with Solas will certainly play a minor role in the next game compared to the new protaginist's story, but the narrative and emotional build-up at the end of the main game and Trespasser was, in my opinion, way too strong for BioWare to ignore and just sweep under the carpet in the next round. It's a major driving force for the continuation, after all, and it would be very, very disappointing if this wasn't properly concluded. A letter/ codex entry/ mention by another character etc. would not be a proper conclusion in my book. So if this is to be concluded in an emotionally and narratively satisfactory way, I expect our Inquisitor to play a major part in resolving the conflict with Solas.

The really odd thing is the fact that you were asked to make that choice at the end of Trespasser about how you wished to pursue Solas and this was recorded in the Keep.  I can't see how that would be binding on a new PC so it must have something to do with how the Inquisitor is presented in the next game.   There is also the sending crystal that Dorian gives to a friend or lover (but not so far as I am aware to someone with whom he is on bad terms).    So leaving aside the non-friend scenario, there is a link between the Inquisitor, wherever they are, and Dorian in Tevinter.    If the next game is set there, I can see the Inquisitor setting goals for the new PC based off intelligence reports they had received at their end (a bit like TIM in ME2) and the dialogue used would depend on the choice you made in Trespasser and whether you had been in a romance with Solas.   So a "stop him at all costs" Inquisitor would have dialogue along those lines, whilst a "redeem" Inquisitor would be less aggressive and ask you to find another way if possible, but at the end of the day the new PC would make their own choice whether to be guided by this or not.   Then when Solas is finally run to ground, possibly the Inquisitor would be re-introduced to the narrative rather as Hawke was in DAI or even become a controllable party member.

"Manipulative"?   Did we romance the same guy?

But yeah, agreed, OP. Solas's romance is the best I've ever seen in a Bioware game (and my favourite next to Garrus). All it needs to make it perfect is a conclusion and a bit more content. My biggest disappointment is that my Lavellan doesn't have all of the information that I do.

He kinda did manipulate some things. He was on the shady side and idk maybe it was just me but I felt, and i loved my solas romance playthrough, I felt that the romance itself was rushed and in comparision to say, Dorian, or Cullen or even Iron Bull it was totally lacking in depth and That saddened me. I do wish they would have made a DLC AFTER tresspasser, where we take our group, be it inquisiton still together or disbanded group of friends, and search for Solas for answers and closure and maybe the chance to go with him to help him make things right. It seems after all he wants to make things right but the only way he can do so is well. More chaos I guess. As for the elves he despsises them because of how they were taught but thats not their fault. Its not truly the current generations fault history is wrong. look at real world. its a mess with a mix match of narritive molded histories being told. Thats what happened to the Dalish and. Truth be told, they would know the truth if "Ahem"Someone hadn't caused the end of certain peoples thusly losing the history. The Dalish did the best they could with what they had. After all the only person trying to save them abandonded them in the end. He has a lot to answer for and hopefully Bioware gets it right in the next game, if there is one, and we get some answers. (And i say all this while being a devout lover of Solas(and cullen hehe)
