To be fair, a lot of people are speaking more about how their characters feel in relation to Solas. Which is fine! But once you get into the realm of, 'well, my Inquisitor feels X', that's not really something that can be debated. One person might see Lavellan as being completely devastated by the breakup. Others might not.
I don't think Bioware would ever put you in a situation where you couldn't end it with Solas if this storyline is continued into a future DLC. If you hate Solas for what he did to your Inquisitor, I don't doubt you'll get that opportunity to vent your feelings.
As far as what Solas himself feels, all we know is that he feels regret. We know that whatever cause it is he has committed himself to, he values it more than his own happiness or rest. Whether what he did was right or not, we know he thought breaking it off with Lavellan was the right thing to do for both of them. I don't think you can say that's not love.
It just might not be the sort of love you want to reciprocate. That is the subjective part.
Personally, I loved the romance. I did not see that final scene as some plot by Solas to leave her heartbroken. I think if anything, he thought they were going to have a romantic evening. He'd do some magic, spend time in an amazing location...and then he realizes he's finally gone too far. If he goes any further with Lavellan, then he might start to second guess his 'mission', whatever that might be. So he leaves, fullstop. Yes, he chooses his plans over Lavellan. Maybe his plans are righteous ones, or maybe they are downright villainous. We don't know. That's what makes it so compelling.
[You also can't really blame the guy for not explaining himself. The game ended. Until DLC or another game comes out, everything after the credits is just null time.]
