(ending spoilers)

The ritual? I played as a male Warden in my last playthrough and I accepted Morrigans offer. I did it my self without talking to Alistair about it.

When we reach the Denerim gates and I get to talk with everyone, Alistair says: "[...]I know what Morrigan did was supposed to save us[...]

At this point I said to my self: "Ok, I guess he's supposed to know about it being a friend and a fellow Grey Warden. He deserves to know even if I would prefer not to tell him I took the easy way out."

So, I go into the city slay the Archdemon... you know the story... and during the coronation when I talked to Alistair he seemed clueless. Here's the dialogue

"I  just don't understand how you're still alive. I guess Riordan was wrong?"

I answered: "You don't want to know"

So what's the deal here? Did the Archdemon bump him in the head or something? It doesn't seem like a bug, but rather a mistake on Biowares part.

I would like to know if he is supposed to know or not? I know it probably doesn't affect anything but just for the sake of roleplaying I would prefer he didn't.

I don't know what the issue is. But Alistair has dialogue to cover the fact that he may or may not know about the ritual -- or, if he does, he may not know about the purpose of the ritual.
