Probably not common, but I built my mage mostly as a cc badass. Storm, Necromancer and some Spirit for me.
What class is everyone picking so far?

Usually go 2h warrior my first run but went mage this time around and couldn't be happier. You start out pretty weak but end up awsome, great fun.

Mage (and Dalish), because I played only Warriors in the first two games and I decided it was time for a change.

I've been playing a FemQuanri Mage so far. I LOVE IT. It's amazing! But I plan to play a Dwarf warrior and an elf rogue in the future as well.

Mage all the way. Is there really any other class that matters?

I'm a mage at heart, so my first choice was mage - and I'll pretty much be a mage in every playthrough from now on and forever in DA:I.
I tried things out via my companions to get a feel for the warrior and rogue classes, and well, I'm just more suited to be a mage. I mean, heck, most of my actual day is spent reading boring manuscripts anyway - which is what I expect most mages do when they're stuck in a Circle tower...except they get to do fun stuff like zap people with lightning and whatnot, which must make up for all the boring manuscripts.

I played as a male qunari mage. I may be wrong but the attacks seem kinda weak

Went two-handed warrior for first play through, which I'm doing on Nightmare difficulty. It is a righteous pain in the ass but so long as I have Cassandra (my beefed up tank) stacking Guard and taunting everything in sight, I'm usually good. I'm still trying to find the last piece to get my Reaver spec so I can get the ability to basically eat an enemies health and give it to myself. I think I really need that.

A lot of mage spells ARE weak damage wise but provide a lot of utility instead. Such as winters grasp, terrible damage for its mana cost but it sets up the shatter cross class combo which does a lot of cold damage to a target. If you want damage focused spells then look toward the fire spells and the unique specialization spells.

I'd suggest using Warcry and Block and Slash to build guard as a 2h warrior. As far as I'm concerned, upgraded Block and Slash is a must have ability for 2h warriors.

Ice generally feels like the support ability tree (besides of course spirit). The spells, unless going up against fire, are really weak, but provide the possibility to block of routes or freeze targets in order to get into positions. Both Fire and Lightning seem to be the damaging trees. Lightning has some support, it's kind of a blend between Ice and Fire (who knew?). Fire is just pure damage, wear them down as fast as possible.

I use block as often as possible. Warcry, I would use, but it taunts which will lead to me dying a lot quicker. What's the other one? I think it's a shield icon. That sounds like a better option, though I haven't really invested into that tree.

I always play a mage for my first playthrough. Next up on deck: 2h warrior, something unusual for me (I don't usually play warriors), but I hear that warriors are really powerful and fun in this game. At some point, I'll try an elven archer, as well.

Two-handed warrior reaver, played on hard and killed myself more times than I can count, but it was worth it!

This is why upgrading warcry is important. 200% armor + a lot of guard is very powerful. Also, place a fire mine under your feet when you taunt. Or have Cassandra cast Wrath of Heaven after you gather up the enemy on top of you. You'll then be able to use the stun to set off AoE cross class combos. Laugh as you slaughter your enemies.

First play-through I was a mage knight-enchanter.
This next run I'm thinking rogue archer. ![]()

Mages because I was rogue in Origins and Warrior in DA2.
I choose KE because everyone say that is awesome but I don't really like it.... I want to be mortalitasi but I don't think that is going to fit on my "pro-andraste and chantry" Inquisitor so I guess I would get the rift mage

Spec was NECROMANCY!! Just fit the character I was going for: decent, but eccentric, ambitious and passionate about learning/practicing magic.
