Went mage on my first run and though I have typically hated the class in the previous games (bor-ing!!) it was great fun and very effective in combat.

Spec was NECROMANCY!! Just fit the character I was going for: decent, but eccentric, ambitious and passionate about learning/practicing magic.

Pretty close to the same story, actually. This was my first mage run (fun enough), and I also picked necromancer. I dug how most of the companions would remark on it and give reputation gains/losses.

I am annoyed that the signature skills is more annoying than it's worth. I hate finishing any fight with the necromancy effect on, because then it becomes a boring wait for the spirit to dissipate and drop the loot (and allow post-combat conversations to begin). Spirit bomb is sick, as is the panic attack, and the support abilities aren't half bad either. But as far as 'necromancy' goes, I should have just saved it.

My first playthrough started as human DW rogue, switched to archer.

Now I got one qunari warrior, one human mage and one elven mage, all of which at least completed the prologue. Think I'm going to continue with the human mage.

Yeah...I like many characters!

You can release control of and kill your minion if you cast Spirit Mark again -- the spell's hotkey will be highlighted like a bright yellow color indicating you can toggle the reassurect effect on and off, though sometimes it's unavailable when the game recognizes combat as finished.

I also loved the acknowledgment of my spec. I was a bit ornery at first about having to fetch stuff to unlock it but I really like being able questioned and responding in-world to my special talent.
