so i bought a PS4 copy of DAI and and in the options of the main menu, it says, manual and then tells you to go to a specific EA site.

now heres the most absurd thing about it, on my PS4 i go to the site (even though using PS4's web browser isn't the most efficient), finally i get the page to load, just so it could tell me i couldn't look at or download the manual for the system i bought it on!!???

but of course i have a PC, but not every console player will have a "smart" phone or a PC so what is their recourse? also, the manual that i finally did look at on my PC doesn't explain anything??? this game has a lot of new features and looks to it as far as the UI and stats go and i would love to know whats going on with them...

i'm not blaming anyone here, but who is to blame? lol

i could say EA because they didn't want to spring for a manual, or i could complain about sonys lack of adobe support on the PS4... anyways, it's not a super big deal, but there are still areas of the game where i'm flying blind and feel like i deserve to know what the hell certain things mean...

Every last console game I have bought did not come with a manual. Welcome to the future!

No manual in the PC version either.  Pretty shitty.  Bioware used to throw spiral bound manuals into their games.  Now we don't get anything and the in-game option just gives you a URL...lol

I actually had a look at the online DAi manual, wish it was printed. It actually looks pretty good.

Go to help/ea.com then scroll below the manuals option.  It's there for what very little it's worth.  I too prefer a hard copy, but with a game this varied and good, I can forgive it some, and fewer and fewer games give them.  Ticks me off with really lousy games.  Could've gotten a guide when bought, but I would've had to wait for it in mail.  Going to go look at one, though, to see how big it is.  Origins was a huge guide.

I never even knew people used manuals in this day and age.

You should try some complex game, like for example Crusader Kings 2. You would find very quickly that people do, and why.

But sure, where there is not much of a mechanics to talk about, there is no need for manual.

I remember taking the original BG1 manual on holiday with me to read on the way.

With the introduction of in game tutorials and bare bones digital instructions the hard copy manual is becoming an extinct species.  This is a shame though as a lot of designers back in the fay really took advantage of the manual to help flesh out the game world which really helped give you an idea of the culture you are entering and the atmosphere the game will have.

Arcanum's manual is still one of my favourite as they made it to be written by a character in the game (with all of that characters personal bias and beliefs) and when you found him in game you could question him on the of the articles in the manual.

They don't, but they should.

How else are we supposed to know how the game works?

That online pc manual is pretty bad. It is barebones. Also, most of it is using the controller directions, which I simply don't understand why they would to that. As for the instructions, very little is explained. For example, there is nothing explaining the indicators for barrier and guard. I had no idea what those indicators meant until I went to the forum.

There are probably a lot of people who never go to the forums, and I would bet that many of them still don't know a lot of the basic indicators in the game.

Bioware needs to hire a decent manual writer, and use the correct controls for the KB&M throughout the entire manual.
