So... I'm curious how you rate the companions. Sum up what you like and dislike about them if you want. I don't want to go in details for this thread as I don't want to spoil anything. If you played through already or watched the streams, you'll probably understand the order of some of my choices.

As for the advisers, I like them all. At first I thought I would hate Cullen due to the fact I'm pro-mages, but he grew on me while opening up to the Inquisitor scenes I've seen so far. He's well written in Inquisition.

• Dorian - He's funny, intelligent, and a good man.
• Cassandra - Her resilience and determination are second to none and I admire her tenacity.
• Blackwall - He's such a wise old guy with a lot of great stories.
• Solas - I identify with him immensely (we're both dreamers).
• Vivienne - She's beautiful, saucy, and dangerous, though I can't quite put my finger on how I feel about her.
• Varric - I much preferred him in DA2; he's a tired and beaten man in Inquisition.
• Iron Bull - That voice... I just can't accept it, but I do like that he's more brain than just brawn.
• Cole - Haven't spent enough time with him, but he's too mysterious to really care about.
• Sera - I clash with her; too much posturing and pretentiousness.

Blackwall - Okay, I am admittedly biased. I'm a huge Grey Warden fanboy, and his ideals really resonate with me despite his companion quest's results. Would have romanced him if he liked male characters. "Sometimes you have to figure out what your pledge to others really means"

Cassandra - She's just an all around interesting character, I like everything about her. She's strong, but secretly very feminin. "You're delightful" "I object, there is nothing delightful about me"

Vivienne - I wish we saw more pro circle mages in the game, plus I just love her personality darling.

Cole - Infinitely interesting character with a very interesting arc. First time i've considered reading one of the novels for more backstory.

Dorian - I wanted to like Dorian more; Still, despite feeling like a stereotype at times he is funny and suave and I liked talking to him.

Varric - The only likeable companion from DA2 is still really awesome in DA: I. Has some great dialogue, but needs more of it.

Iron Bull - I like Iron Bull but he just doesn't really stand out to me at all. I mean, he has some cool dialogue but put on a shirt guy. "So you like it rough?" "Only with you boss"
Sera - I liked her at first, very funny quirky character. The more she stuck around though the less I liked her. Plus her overtly sexual character selection tarot card, I don't know it turns me off for some reason. Call it personal bias.

Solas - I really started to dislike Solas early on, and it got worse as he disagreed with every decision I made. Trusting people is bad, helping Cole become more human is bad, recruiting people for the Inquisition is bad.

Solas, Cass, Varric: They are easy going, fun and interesting
Cole: leagues better than he was in the book
Blackwall: kinda boring, but he's such a nice man I enjoy having him around
Iron Bull: cool, but I can't stand his model. His neck is a nightmare of anatomy
Sera: well written, but tiring
Viviane = Dorian : too arrogant.

I don't know about everyone else, but Iron Bull's definitely a top.

Not counting use, and granting I've not used a few of them heavily

 

Also granting that this is likely showing my anti-Chantry bias.. and let it be said I don't actively dislike any of them overall..

 

1. Varric. My dwarven hetero-lifemate since DA2.

2. Dorian.Not used him much as I'm playing a Necromage myself but as a character I adore him. Funny, entertaining, but some real pathos there.

3.Blackwall - my LI for my first playthru, but overall a strong, beleivably heroic character in a dark setting. Plus dat beard.

4. Iron Bull. Because he's the Iron Bull. What else needs said?

5. Cassandra. We clash often, but she has a lot of character depth and she's got that tough, rugged hotness going for her.

6. Cole. Amusing, but.. ehnot used him much (Because Varric). If I ever get over the "Rogue must be Varric!" thing, he'll get the spot.

7. Sera. Kinda weird.Funny. That hairstyle's awful. Suffering from the same issue as Cole of "not being Varric".

8. Solas. The word "meh" comes to mind. The fade-archeology angle is interesting. He's not bad. He just.. doesn;t stand out.

9. Vivienne. See that bit about "clashing often" re: Cassandra? Apply that times ten here. Likable character overall, and entertaining, but the political differences (IC and OOC) with her stance make it hard to like her currently. The Pro-Chantry playthru may change that.

1 - Sera - I love her personality

2 - Blackwell - Great tank and not as tiring as Cass

3 - Solas - Very well written and a unique character

4 - Varric - Adds some colour and links back to DA2 nicely

5 - Cassandra - Too severe

6 - Iron Bull - Just meh

7 - Cole - Not used him yet

8 - Dorian - Far too smarmy

9 - Vivienne - Really grates on me

Companions:

• Cole - Although it took long for me to gain his approval, he is well developed and his party banter never ceases to bore me.
• Sera - She's quirky, fun to talk to, and every quest of hers is brilliant, even if she finds my Inquisitor a bit "elfy" for her tastes.
• Iron Bull - His commentary is brilliant. Even if his attire is bleh, his line delivery makes up for it.
• Varric - He doesn't have many lines, but from what he does say, he's not too bad.
• Solas - Interesting character. Great in combat, but slightly annoying in every other way.
• Vivienne - She's beautiful and her voice is great, but that's... well... she's mean!
• Blackwall - I don't talk to him much, since he's all the way on the other side of the Inquisition's base. He's also a bit... bland.
• Cassandra - I can't stand her. Her accent, her religiousness, her "I am authority behind the scenes" act, everything about her annoys me.

Advisors:

• Cullen - I'm a Cullenite! What can I say?
• Josephine - She's so nice and sweet, not to mention her voice actor played Tali'Zorah. She'll likely be my second playthrough romance, if I can resist Cullen again!
• Leliana - I didn't even let her into my squad in Dragon Age: Origins, but she's not that bad in Inquisition. I'll admit, she's my primary advisor for most missions.

Oh, fun! Haven't finished the main story and thus haven't finished all their arcs, but here are my rankings for now. 

 

1. Dorian - Because obviously 

2. Cassandra - Thought I wouldn't, but I like her for some reason. Not even sure why, honestly. Maybe I like her passion. I don't know, but she's just good people. 

3. Sera - Funny. I like funny. 

4. Iron Bull - Fun.

5. Cole - I enjoy listening to him talk. Good dialogue. 

6. Solas - We've haven't really clicked yet for some reason. 

7. Vivienne - I thought this lady and I would be platonic soul mates but...ugh, something about her always rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Which sucks, because Indira Varma is amazing in the role. 

8. Blackwall - I always forget he exists, and was only reminded of him because of other posters here. I thought that was Cole's power 

 

And I can't rate Varric as I've barely been able to speak to him due to the voice switching bug, but based on what I know of him, he'll be around 2-4.

 

Advisers:

 

1. Leliana - I like her a lot more than I did in Origins

2. Cullen - But I suspect he'll move up after I romance him 

3. Josephine - Meh

 

I don't know about everyone else, but Iron Bull's definitely a top.

1. Varric (I honestly want to try some new rogue character, but no one can replace this trusty dwarf. He's more serious than DA2, but he's always a good friend, generous person who's down to earth, easy going and loyal. Basically he's the same as in DA2, but a bit more serious.)

9. Sera (I try to like her, but it's impossible for me. I just can't stand her obnoxious personality.)

• Solas --  True to his word, explains everything.
• Varric --  True to his word, to an extent.   Bianca does most of his talking though.
• Sera --  I love the idea of the upper class getting what they deserve. 
• Cole --  Haven't really played all that much with Cole.   But he seems a likable, if weird guy. 
• Blackwall --  I don't have many opinions on tanks, but he seems to be the best as far as personality goes.
• Dorian --   I guess?  He is arrogant, but he's usually correct. 
• Cassandra --  Formed the Inquisition.  Held Varric & Inquisitor prisoner.
• Iron Bull.  --  Two words.   Male ****.
• Vivienne --  One word.  Hubris.

I don't know how well to do this but I want to give it a go.

 

Cole: He turned out to be my favourite rogue in party, he does amazing damage and barrier applies to him when I barrier the tank. Plus a stealth Cole with Tears of the Dead is just awesome!

Dorian: The Necromancer abilities are my favourite abilities in the game and it made me go Necro myself because Horror has always been one of my favourite DA spells. 

Cassandra: She always tanked better than Iron Bull for me, so I beefed her up as much as I could. Put War Cry, Challenge and Grappling Hook and she is amazing. Love Grappling Hook better on Cassandra too, she looks way better using it than Iron Bull.

Iron Bull: even though I prefer Cassandra tanking he is okay, I had so much regret giving him Charging Bull, that ability is just irritating omg.

Varric: He is just as good as the DA2 Varric . I only didn't use him in party very often because I liked Cole better .

Sera: She has a good voice actor, can't tell what she is bloody well saying though. When I first met her I needed a translator omg. She clashed hard with my Dalish mage which is annoying, if she took things more seriously I would have used her more.

Solas: He was ok at the start but then after playing longer I didn't like him that much because he is kind of selfish, I would say more but that would be spoilery.

Vivenne: Scary. I was seriously afraid of talking to her.

Blackwall: A boring fricking shite-y ******! OMG I hate him so much.

Hmm. Hard decision, but here goes:

 

Companions:

1. Varric - My man, my bro, my mate

2. Cassandra - Though & tsundere, perfect combination

3. Sera - Funny & rebellious

4. Dorian - Funny & intellectual

5. Iron Bull - He's cool & wise, a good character

6. Blackwall - Average, kinda wise

7. Solas - Rarely in my party

8. Cole - What's he doing here anyway

9. Vivienne - Annoying, big brat

 

Advisors:

1. Leliana - I've always love Leliana since the Origin, but she's way more charming & lovely than ever before in DAI.

2 & 3. Cullen & Josephine - I just don't see them appealing.

One other reason I loved Sera.  Whenever she's asked about Vivienne, "She's a ******."

1. Solas - Intelligent, open-minded, always has something interesting to say. Probably the most sensible character.

2. Blackwall - A very loyal and noble dude, with a dry sense of humor. Would share a beer with anytime. (Great voice actor too)

3. Iron Bull - The Big Boss of Qunari. Wish I could take him out more but no room for two warriors in my party.

4. Cole - I love spirits and demons in DA. Cole has such a unique approach to every situation. Really like the scarecrow look.

5. Varric - Everybody loves Varric, but eh.. been there done that.

6. Dorian - Very witty and fun to talk to. Learning more about the Tevinter is always good thing.

7. Sera - Not what I expected at all to be like. Turning out to be a pretty fun character though. Wish I could have romanced.

8. Cassandra - Seems like a good person but hasn't really captured my interest so far.

9. Vivienne - A snooty little byatch. Still a well written character but probably my least favorite. Don't really trust her either.
