3. Vivienne. Gay icon. If only she'd stop saying 'my dear' every damn sentence.

Can you elaborate?

Kind of a curious idea.

Although I can see it. She is just so camp.

Which is actually one of her more delightful traits.

1. Cassandra - She's awesome.

2. Dorian - I like this dude.

3. Solas - He's an interesting Elf, plus well, u'll see.

4. Varric - Varric is Varric

5. Iron Bull - He's pretty funny, and likable in his own way.

6. Cole - Interesting, but ugly. If he wasn't so ugly he'd be higher.

7. Blackwall - Ehh, to be honest. I find him kind of boring. He's not bad though.

8. Sera - Ya, i just don't get this this character. Im not sure if they wanted us to find her weirdness charming, but honestly i just find her obnoxious more so then charming . Also i kind of wonder if she has a mental disability.

9. Vivienne - I can't stand her. She's pompous, and i just disagree with her views. I find her unlikable.

· Cassandra - Underneath that hard-boiled surface she's a sweet and like able person. Her idealism is at odds with my Inquisitor's POV but I consider it to be a well-written character flaw. I also romanced her in my playhthrough.

· Sera - She's like a mischievous child but I find her unique and likeable.

· Dorian - even if all companion quests are ultimately too short, his one gave me a great deal of sympathy for him, and like your character may point out, he's a very brave man. Overall well-written character.

· Iron Bull - Freddie Prinze Jr. Is nice, but his accent is just not consistent here. That doesn't ruin Iron Bull's funny writing though, and I care about him and his passion for his Chargers group.

· Solas - Yeah, he's obviously pretending to be Spock from Star Trek, but he's still quite a unique character to Dragon Age. I like his design, and his insight and empathy for spirits and the fade is genuinely interesting, which I admit I never cared for before.

· Varric - Whatever happened to cheerful and sarcastic Varric from DA2? Is this not just weeks after the events with Hawke? He's so serious and friendly in this game. Was he not written by the same writer?

· Blackwall - He's so depressed, but it's understandable once you get to know him. He can be a bit of a party Popper sometimes though.

· Cole - Too dark and edgy. Seemed try hard writing IMO.

· Vivienne - I know kids who are more mature than this spoiled high-class idiot.

I mean this in the most positive way (yay for representation!): I suspect Sera would be diagnosed on the autism spectrum.

1: Iron Bull. I'll admit I wasn't interested in him at all at first, but I quickly found out he isn't just a dumb muscle head. He's funny and actually quite sweet when he's not bashing in heads, and especially when you get to know him better. I quickly warmed up to this big dork. I originally had him planned for my third play through buuuut he shoved Cullen and Dorian to second and third place for planned romances, and I haven't regretted it AT ALL.

2: Varric. Because Varric. Nothing more needs to be said.

3: Cullen. I've always liked Cullen, and he's so well written in DAI.

4: Dorian. He's a funny fancy pants fabulous smart ass.

5: Josephine. I like her voice/accent?

6: Cassandra. I don't like her voice/accent but she's alright otherwise.

7: Leliana. No real opinion on her but I don't dislike her.

8: Blackwall. I haven't really bothered with him but he seems nice.

9: Solas. I... don't care about Solas.

10: Vivienne. I liked her for a short bit, until we got to Skyhold. Then she got annoying. I'm also not 'your dear'!

11: Cole. He's WEIRD.

Left out Sera because I haven't recruited her (yet, dunno if I will) and also left out Morrigan because I haven't gotten to her either. I liked her in DAO though, so she'll probably rank somewhere near Dorian's spot.

In my canon playthroughs I am definitely not going to recruit Sera or Vivienne. Both of them are incredibly annoying b***hes, Varric is far superior as an Archer Rogue and Vivienne has a terrible AI which does not make full use of her Knight Enchanter powers.

  1. Vivienne - I thought I'd hate her, but she is just wonderful.  Posh, arrogant, ruthlessly intelligent and incredibly funny.  Love her to bits.  She is the standout character of the game for me, and her opinions about everyone else are more then welcome.  Absolutely, darling, absolutely.
  2. Varric - My buddy, my pal, my dearest chum.  Back, and funnier than ever.
  3. Dorian - Once again, he is the man.  Hilarious, charming, and a fascinating character as well.  I find it terribly hard choosing between the old chap and Vivi at times.
  4. Blackwall - Stoic, kindhearted, a good man at heart.  I like him.
  5. Cassandra - Not terrible, and a decent person.  A strong believer in the Inquisitor.  Good for the cause.
  6. Solas - Rather bland, but not a bad guy.
  7. Iron Bull - Bioware's attempt to create a 'cool' character backfires hilariously.  Iron Bull isn't *bad* per se, just a bit stupid.
  8. Cole - A little s*** who should be torn from the fade and eliminated permanently
  9. OH, SERA.  In 15 years of playing Bioware games I have never encountered anything like her.  Sera is annoying, leftist *****.  And like all good members of said persuasion, she is ruthlessly hypocritical, often motivated by the very pursuit of wealth for which she hates rich people.  On top of being a socialist, Sera also speaks with a ridiculously fake 'poor person' accent, of the type put on by middle class university students pretending to be working class to improve their anarchist credentials.  She disgusts me with her naïve, high school opinions that sound like the stuff a 15 year old comes out with after reading the summary of Marx's Das Kapital on Wikipedia.  And she doesn't follow orders like a follower or employee should, probably because she doesn't believe in 'wage slavery' (not that she deserves a salary in the first place, of course).  I wish we could kill this pathetic peasant and make Thedas a better place. /rant.

1. Cassandra- Devout in the Maker and the Inquisition, although with room for self doubt. Shows a softer side through her rough exterior- manages to be both serious and funny at the same time.

2. Cole- Childlike in many ways, eager to help yet unafraid of violence, stretches the boundaries between spirit, human, and demon. He's definitely an acquired taste, but he's very different from most characters I've experienced

3. Vivienne- I actually believe Vivienne wants to help people and wishes to do so by restoring order. She can actually be quite nice under that icy exterior. Funny without being over the top, has a softer spot as seen in her personal quest.

4. Solas- Has refreshing views on elves and the Fade, not someone my PC agreed with but it was interesting to hear why he disagreed. Very intrigued to see him in future titles.

5. Varric- Helps bind DA2 and DA:I together, a bit more serious but pretty similar overall. Wicked Grace scene is great. Not the most intriguing character, but a nice one to have around.

6. Dorian- I like that a character's sexuality was actually addressed and that Dorian is neither "I hate Tevinter" nor a "Mwahaha evil magister!" but the constant 'wittiness' is a bit grating so far, even if it's a defense mechanism

7. Iron Bull- I just find myself very indifferent here- might be because Bull just seems so indifferent to everything. He never seems particularly happy or unhappy about anything.

8. Blackwall- He's a little too grim and dour for my tastes and overall just a bit boring to me. Personal quest makes him more interesting, but also...confusing.

9. Sera- I actually like that as a common person she has a fear of magic and a dislike of 'elfy' things, but her overall presentation is pretty irritating. Her 'humor' is very juvenile and obnoxious. She doesn't seem to fit into this game very well.

Now that I'm just about finished with the game I can have opinions, lol.

Compaions:

1. Dorian - He'd be swapped with Cole, but the main quest he was in was amazing and cemented our wonderful bromance. Plus voice acting.

2. Cole - Very moving character, made me cry twice.

3. Varric - Really close tie with Cole, always good to have along.

4. Cass - She's awesome, even better paired with Varric. Their dynamic really made the game for me.

5. Iron Bull - Really solid character, and hilarious, but I barely took the time to speak with him, unfortunately.

6. Vivienne - She's great, even if she disliked my Inquisitor.

7. Solas - Definitely a character, lol.

8. Blackwall - Literlly the entire time, he was missing from Skyhold (glitch?) so I never really spoke to him...

9. Sera - Just general dislike. Everything I did ticked her off and vice versa. Waaaaaay too hard to understand most of the time.

Advisors:

Tie between Cullen and Josie. Cullen's a BAMF and Josie is adorable in every way, though Cullen's scenes are a bit more interesting.

Leliana just made me angry most of the time and I we clashed a lot, as I expected. Didn't expect her to be so... icy. She's definitely more interesting than in Origins, though.

All in all I liked everyone, and only actively disliked Sera. They did great with everyone.  :)

I'm not very far into the game but here is everyone's standing as of now:

1. Blackwall - Honorable, kind, and wise. I feel like both he and my Audecan Warden would have got along fantastically. I did not expect to like him as much as I do. He has become my right-hand man.

2. Cassandra - Strong-willed, passionate, and a hot-head. But willing to see reason. Absolutely love her. The book quest had me literally doubled over with laughter.

3. Varric - The best character in DA2 returns and is a little more serious but even more awesome. The dynamic between him and Cass is great.

4. Solas - A surprise favorite. We see eye to eye on basically everything and he's fascinating to talk to.

4.2 Dorian - An extreme narcissist with with wit as sharp as a dragon's talon. I love everything about him. Always a tough choice to pick between him and Solas if I want a mage.

5. Iron Bull. I disagree with his faith in the Qun but respect his leadership and prowess in battle. A genuinely good guy I would want beside me whether we are at the tavern or on the field. Plus FPJ is just an awesome dude.

6. Cole - Patrick Weeks has done a fantastic job transitioning this character from the books over into the game. He is spot-on and awesome. David Gaider must be proud! The only reason he doesn't get to come along very often is because Varric is my homie. I bet he and Solas have interesting banter.

7. Vivennne - We agree and disagree. I feel she is an important ally but not necessarily a friend. I have no patience for Orlesian nonsense. (One thing Loghain and I agree on) but I do agree mages cannot be allowed to run wild. The main reason she got benched was because she is just downright mean in some of her banter. Plus Solas and Dorian are just too awesome.

8. Sera - I was iffy on her at first... The more I've spoken with her the more I really dislike her. The only character so far that gave me the option to just kick out of the Inquisition mid-dialogue and I came very close to doing so. But I kicked out Sten in Origins early on and ended up regretting it. He is one of my favorite characters now. Though, I don't see Sera ever warming up to me.

1. Cassandra - I admire her capability, her idealism, and ability to roll with the punches. She never hesitates to admit she was wrong about something.

2. Dorian - He's just plain fun. Also an idealist.

3. Solas - I'm playing an elf, and they jive well together.  His perspective and thoughtfulness are great.

4. Iron Bull - I didn't think I'd like him much, but he's terrific.  I love his straight talk and his dedication to the Chargers. And the dialogue is awesome.

5. Sera - She's hilarious, and I love her as a player. She doesn't quite get along with my PC, though.

6. Varric is Varric.  Lovely and funny.  His character was continued exactly as I would have hoped.

7. Blackwall - Nice guy; inoffensive. I like having a Warden perspective on the team, and he is fun with the other characters.

8. Vivienne -  Haven't really gotten to know her well, and she makes such an effort to be a bit cold.  My PC doesn't get along with her AT ALL.

9.  Cole - I just don't spend enough time with him and don't know him that well.

I can't rank the advisor team; I love them all and love that they're there.  I've started calling the companions as the away team and the advisors the base team.

I want to start by saying that I don't dislike any of them, really.  At worst, I'm indifferent to them.  At best, I'm in love with them.  I think they really did a bang up job this time around.  I'm about 83 hours in at this point and have done most of the companion quests, I'm assuming.  I still have two whose tarot cards haven't changed, so I know that they will be having at least one more quest for me.

As of right now:

1.)  Vivienne

2.)  Dorian

3.)  Cassandra

4.)  Blackwall

5.)  Varric

6.)  Iron Bull

7.)  Solas

8.)  Sera

9.)  Cole

Vivienne is probably my favorite companion ever in a DA game.  Dorian and Cassandra are likely top 5-6 as well.  Just really awesome characters.

1 - Iron bull; he's funny, badass, and a bro. I love everything he says and does.

2 - Sera; adorable and hilarious.

3 - Cass; my girl.

4 - Viv; smart and sensible. I was surprised that I liked her.

5 - Cole; very interesting character.

6 - Varric; not as good as in DA2. I haven't really felt the desire to take him out much. At least it's still Varric.

7 - Blackwall; meh. He's a good guy, but meh.

8 - Dorian; I haven't really done anything with him, so I don't really care about him.

9 - Solas; I liked him at Haven, but **** went downhill from there. He hates everything I do.

As for advisors, Cullen is my favorite.

Mine would be...

1. Iron Bull (did not expect this)

2. Cole (again... never thought I'd like this guy but was really surprised by how much I did)

3. Blackwall (very solid character)

4. Vivienne (her side plot was a bit weak, but overall a great character)

5. Cassandra (an alright char with a great VA, but not very impressive overall)

6. Dorian (didn't get along well with some of my favorites, unfortunately...)

7. Solas (did not like his views on elves or magic, and I found him to be pretentious at times)

8. Varric (hated his bad attitude and constant passive aggressive sniping)

9. Sera (she just didn't do it for me... it's best to leave it at that)

Overall, it was a pretty solid set of companions.  The only ones I actively disliked were Varric and Sera, which is pretty good considering how many previous DA companions I despised.

As for advisors... Josephine and Cullen were great, but Leliana was too dark for my liking.  Every other solution was assassinating some random person and she didn't care about collateral damage at all.  I tried to avoid dealing with her whenever possible.  Josephine was a lot more interesting than Cullen, but as I said, I liked both characters.

I haven't beaten the game yet. I've barely settled into Skyhold, but so far~

1. Cole - This probably won't change because he's just too durn interesting. I love the way he talks and I'm a sucker for a dual-wielding dude. I wish I could introduce him to my VTMB Malkavian and the voices in her head.

2. Solas - I must admit, I didn't think I was going to like him for the very shallow reason of him not being a pretty boy elf like our last two were. His whole dream thing is fascinating though. I honestly can't wait to start my female Elf playthrough. I do wish he'd stop being so stinkin' fantastic around my human lady Inquisitor, though. It's not fair.

3. Cass - I had Iron Bull pegged as my "tank" for my first playthrough before I began. But she has landed my favorite female archtype perfectly as the mostly no nonsense lady cop sort. It will be difficult to give her spot up to the bull when I'm playing a red-head for his sake.

That's pretty much my static for this playthrough. As for the rest...

4. Varric - He was amazing in 2. Most of my admiration for this character has carried over but it feels like he's lost some of that wit in favor of grit. Eh.

5. Dorian - I actually like this guy a lot, but I have a feeling I'm going to be missing out on the best he has to offer due to my playstyle. Still. He's fun.

6. Vivienne -  I don't see myself using her in my parties because Solas. However, I like the character and her personality. It feels like she should be an advisor. I imagine my circle mage Inquisitor views her as a sort of role model.

7. Blackwall - Not much to go on with this fella yet due to lack of banter and I haven't encountered his important quests. Based on appearances alone, not my type. But neither was Solas...

8. The Iron Bull - Same boat as Blackwall, really. Not sure I care for the angle that's being cast by certain npcs who gossip too loudly, but we will see.

9. Sera - Possibly the most obnoxious character I have ever encountered in a video game. I don't even know if I'll be arsed to recruit her in further playthroughs unless she miraculously stops being a hateful brat at some point.

I suspect some of these rankings will change in future playthroughs.

...except for Sera. I really can't stand her. If anyone wants an extra Sera on their team, please take mine. I will trade for another Cole or Solas. Or even a nice, unassuming pet rock.

1) Cassandra. There isn't anything I didn't like about her- tough when she needs to be, sensitive, humble, retrospective. It was SO nice to see a woman confident in her authority who didn't also come across as a total hag. Also, her faith, so we'll done.

2) Solas. I found his thoughts on the fade to be extremely intriguing, and some of the conversations he had with my non-romanced mage inquisitor felt extremely genuine even after...well. *cough*

3) Varric. Liked him, but not as well as in DAII. I'll agree with the others that said it felt like he was Hawke's friend who was part of the Inquisition by accident. I missed the closeness and loyalty he gave to Hawke, but I also sort of appreciate it at the same time. It makes his relationship with Hawke feel more special, but made his relationship with the Inquisition dull by comprison and thus his character a little dull? If I didn't already have a fondness for him, I don't know that he would have scored so high, tbh.

4) Blackwall. While I don't find him particularly interesting, his dialog is so...unintentionally charming? I just liked the guy.

5) Cole. I hardly had any interactions with him in my first playthrough, but his background makes me WANT to. Plus, I want to pinch his little cheeks.

6) Vivienne. I WANT HER WARDROBE. Also, despite being a frosty and condescending and reeking of ulterior motive, she's also clever and I found myself agreeting with most of her thoughts on the future of the mages.

7) Dorian. Another character I under-utilized in my first playthrough, but my impressions were favorable overall.

8) Iron Bull. I wasn't really able to get close to this guy and I get the feeling he's going to be drenched in stereotypes (Isabela v. 2.0?) when I finally give him a chance, but lucky for him, I enjoy his particular stereotype.

9) Sera. She's the only one I can't find a positive thing to say about which is so rare for me. Explaining further would only digress into character bashing and I don't like to do that, so I'll leave it at that.

As for the advisors?

1) Cullen. Been a total fangirl since DAO, so it was pretty much a given. Loved his character arc, loved the romance. Greg Ellis did a phenomenal job with the voice acting....and I'll stop before before I get carried away.

2) Josephine. I loved her. She was incredibly likeable and I found myself really caring about her and feeling a bit protective of her.

3) Leliana. Wow. Talk about character development. I've always wanted to see the ruthless side of her and this game does not disappoint. *shivers* She definitely makes me nervous though!
