3. Iron Bull - He too is funny but he does not have the mustache.

4. Sera - The embodiment of a little kid, so sweet but fierce and straight-up too.

5. Varric - More of a fan in DA2 but he still is hilarious and can tell a heck of a story, just ask Cassie.

6. Cole - Creeped me out at first but he's very kind, hope they don't give him the Anders treatment if he makes it into anything else.

7. Vivienne - I like that she suports the Circle and she understands the reality of everything.

8. Blackwall - Good guys finish last (if it wasn't for Solas).

9. Solas - He disagrees with everything that I choose, he is too pro apostate/elf for me to handle.

 

Advisors:

 

1. Leliana - Forever my love, wish I could romance.

2. Josephine - So sweet and innocent, I enjoyed her romance because it was first lovesque.

3. Cullen - No hard feelings, I like him, just enjoy the two ladies more.

Companions

 

1 - Dorian. I like his sense of humour, his irony and most of all his loyalty.
2 - Cassandra. I already liked her in DA2 and now I like her even more in DA:I. Love her hidden femininity. My next playtrough with be a Cassandra-mancer
3 - Varric. Because he's Varric, right? No reason to add anything else
4 - Iron Bull. Great buddy even if he's too much "human" for a qunari. I suppose that Sten gave us a more reliable images of Qunari behaviours.
5 - Blackwall. Quite plain as a chracter. The typical broody hero with hidden secrets. Still think he's a good man
6 - Cole, but I didn't use him too much therefore I don't know him well. Besides I wasn't really fascinated with his character/story.
7 - Sera. I romanced her in my first (non-canon) playtrough but basically I don't like that she forces you to her level. I really miss rivalry romances from DA2 in her case.
8 - Solas. I liked him in the earliest moment of the game, but soon I began to dislike him because he basically disagrees everytime you make a "good" or charitable choice. What's your problem with me helping people man?
9 - Vivienne. I wonder if Bioware just gave us on purpose a character we are supposed to hate. Selfish, vicious, arrogant, hypocrite. What an unpleasant woman!

For the record, I don't hate any of the characters. They all grew on me after 3th playthrough and I founded myself unable to hate them. 

But if I had to put them in order (this changes depending the playthrough tho):

 

The favorites:

 

+ Dorian - Sassy mage with awesome wit and personality. Also he so sweet under all that sass. What's there not to love?

+ Solas - Intruging, wise and gentle, I like people like that. And that romance smoothess, damn son

+ Cole - My headcanon is that all my Inquisitors adopt him after the events of the game are handled. He's a cute spirit child that must be protected all cost!

+ Cassandra - Her secretly romantic personaity makes me so happy. I'd love to have sister or friend like her irl

 

The second favs:

 

+ Iron Bull - Bad ass with soft heart. I wouldn't mind riding him either.

+ Sera - She's so much fun. I hated her at first since I couldn't figure her out but now she has grew on me like a fungus.

 

The 'I don't hate you but sometimes I wanna punch you' crew:

 

+ Vivienne - Hated her first too, she's a b**ch alright but then I played my Andrastian/Pro Templar run and woah. She's Inquisitions tiger mama and her fussing and hidden worry over my Templar warrior warms my heart. 

+ Blackwall - I liked him at first and his personality is nice but then he did a the thing. Let's say I can forgive but I don't forget.

in terms of "Matth85's" numbers/efficiency

warriors:

1) Blackwall-Champion is OP, and the right build will/can out DPS reaver while still being tanky
2) Iron Bull-Reaver is powerful, but needs the W&S passives to be any good
3) Cassandra-Templar is only OP with the right combo, otherwise Champion is tons better

rogues:

Only one companion gets this slot anyways by numbers standard: Varric-if you are not using an artificer, then you have no rogue, as Varric/Artificer inquisitor is/are the only ones with a decent cooldown reducer

Mages

1) Vivienne-KE is OP and no matter what build, will never be worse than Necro.
2) Solas-Rift mage is not even close to the power of KE, yet is better than Dorian
1000) Dorian-Do not even use him, unless you plan to not give him his spec.

In terms of flavor: They all are great.

1. Cassandra-a well done strong female character. She's well balanced, willing to put Right before her own ego, with a secret softer side.

2. Varric-his character has grown, yes, he's a bit bitter now, but he's still Varric.

3. Solar-a snooty elf. Yeah. But he's got a lot of layers

4. Iron Bull-As much as he's a Qun, he has his own sort of wisdom that he imparted to the Inquisitor and his people are devoted to him.

5. Dorian-He's just hilarious. I love stopping by for a chat with him now and then

6. Cole-One Strange guy.

7. Blackwall-I found him to be dull and flat. I think I was expecting someone with a little more polish, like Duncan.

8. Vivienne-I don't dislike her character much. I like her sharp tongue and yes, her hubris.

9. Sera-I wanted to like her. She's blinded by her selfishness. Well written, if that's what they intended. She does offer humor.

 

Advisers:

 

Cullen-What can I say, I love the guy? I like that he's grown from that stammering boy in the Circle Tower, dealt with his being tortured, went through Kirkwall, and became a sane, stable person who happens to command an army. He needs to ditch the feather boa, though.

 

Josephine-A great blend of political savvy and innocence.

 

Leliana-I had never really enjoyed her character from the beginning. But now even less so.

9 - ... I have 0 positive things to say , 0 redeeming qualities and overall worst character I've ever seen in a Bioware game.

I haven't posted in here? TL;DR, I love everyone.

 

1. Cole

My baby. Combat-wise, sure he is ultra squishy, but somehow in all my PT he just stays in low-health, not low-enough to use a pot and not low enough to die in one hit.... and seldom dies. Before I get him some OP gears that is. I love his voice acting, I love how confusing his words are, I love love love love all about him /squee

 

2. Blackwall

He ranks pretty low in most people's list. I personally find his story interesting; I immersed myself in his role and actually studied about the story behind his personal quest because it just felt... like it came outta nowhere. Combat-wise he's the tank I depended on. Less deaths. Funny quotes when the other companions die though

 

3. Solas

I always call him "Prof" lololol I loved listening to his stories about his dreams, and he has a voice that makes me feel desperate to tease. Also those eyes. I can't look him in the eyes for more than a minute because.... I'm kinda shy? I have a crush on him? And his glorious chin. And his head. His. Head. In combat I feel like he's the best Mage out of the three (yes, better than KE) but it's probably just me.

 

4. Dorian

I see the guys rank pretty high in my list... Dorian because I like the way he looks. His voice also fits him well, and I like it that he still flirts with my fem!Ink despite being gay. I made him the Elsa with blizzard and some points in support. Okay, okay, the reason why I bring him along so much was because of his grunts. Sexy.

 

5. Varric

I loved his character back in DA2. He's just the warmest thing in Haven and Skyhold despite the winter lel. (Also the fact he sits next to a fireplace) In DAI I like that he is more fleshed out.  I didn't bring him much into combat though, I probably should have. 

 

6. Cassandra

Most people loved her sweet little quest, and I do too! She's got such killer-eyes, I really love them. Though personally I don't really get connected in her story... probably because I feel like I'm missing out the earlier days of her stories because I didn't read the novels or stuff. She's a great tank to have around, I mostly swap between Blackie and her.

 

7. Vivienne

"My dear, darling" YESSSSS my God she's so insufferable that I really love her! I needed a character like this in my companions because if everyone's so perfect and caring it'll be boring, so boring. I generally am best-friends with her, making her believe that I was actually her tool when my Inky's plotting something muahahaha! I don't like how she treats Cole though Combat-wise, it's obvious she's an OP KE, so I tend to limit how many times I bring her out. I tend to avoid bringing her in harsh places like deserts and Storm Coast because she needs to be in her most fabulous state in Skyhold. heh.

 

8. Iron Bull

Pretty low I know, I like his personality, love his looks and voice, but something about him just feels off to me. I can't exactly tell what that is, maybe because his personal quest is just unfair.... I want the best for him, but I also want the best for the Inquisition. Combat-wise... well, I'm pretty bad with two-handed warriors, he dies more often than Cole, so I really need to practice more with him.

 

9. Sera

I love this girl. She's alright if you decide to play along with her. How she wants benefit in every condition, how she can freely disrespect others, and the uh.. how do I say it? "Questionable" link in Inquisition. I love insufferable characters. It's great writing if the amount of hate for a character is tremendous. Sera FTW! In combat, she also pretty OP, so I do limit how many times I bring her out.

 

Advisors.

1. Josephine

I love her voice. I love her personality too. I could hear her talk all day. Reminded me of my Hindu friends for some reasons. While Cass/Leli and Cullen is always "Pick Option A!" "No, pick Option B!" she brings out the third and grey-ish option in conversations. It's like she observed the other advisor's choices before stating out her own. I love her Disney Princess outfit too! I wanna cosplay her! 

 

2. Cullen

The game emphasizes on how pretty he is more than twice. He was my very first LI and boy, do I love his smile. /squeeee But his romance arc is too cheesy and safe. I want more drama and tragedies. I'm glad Greg stayed as his voice actor or else I would go mad. His design could be improved a little though. Especially the clothes part. And I wish he would have worn his lion helm in the game.

 

3. Leliana

Eh, I really am taken by the Origins Leli. In DAI not so much

Also I wish she would have a worn a belt because I think it would improve her design by miles. I'd really love to re-design her though.

I would have to say as far as advisors and companions go Cullen wins them all. The romance story with him is just brilliant. So much love and feels there.

Really though I loved them all accept for Solas. I just found him to be fairly boring. Voice acted fine, just the character really wasn't that interesting.

Can you tell I prefer Rogues and basically detest Mages (except me, when I'm playing one)? 

 

Dorian is fun, but mostly just complaining about the condition of Tevinter, complimenting himself, or smart-mouthing about me.

Blackwall is too dour, and plays the "I'm just a common soldier so everyone looks down on me" card waaaaay  too often.

And Vivienne is so full of herself I can barely stand to talk to her at all.  Sera got it right, she really can't  turn it off!

Judging by this thread, Dorian and Cassandra are almost consistently in the top 3.

 

David Gaider is pleased.

 

Also it appears Vivienne's position varies between the top or bottom. I'd consider this working as intended as she's supposed to be an insufferable and polarizing queen bee.
