I think I will get a controller to try with Inquisition on PC. Should I get the Xbox 360 or is there another y'all would recommend? Thanks for any insights.

don't know. I do now there is an emulator that for example can make a PS3/4 controller work on PC and mimic being a "360" controller.

I just went out and bought myself an X1 controller instead for the ease, since it is basically plug n play now. I am a M/KB player in everything normally cause I have issues aiming with controller, but a game like this,it doesn't matter, it's not about scoring Headshots.

Still took some time getting used to using a gamepad/controller.

I only bought one because I plan to use one for at minimum, doing driving in GTA 5 on PC. Might even play the whole game with it. GTA games always have that nice auto-targeting move and snap-to target ability. Which is actually kind of fun.

Anyways I digress!

Can't go wrong with an Xbox 360 controller.  It's what I'm using.

If you get an Xbox One controller, make sure you get the wired version.  I've heard from multiple sources that the wireless one doesn't work.

Wireless X1 controller does not work because it does not have receiver as far as I know. What works, however, is to connect wireless X1 through ordinary USB - micro USB cable making it essentially wired. Not sure about price differences and such between the two.

Thanks for the opinions! I have an XBox 360 controller with a cord coming from Amazon. I was pleasantly pleased to see that they are about $30. The wireless comes in at close to $44. It's always nice when the less expensive option is the better one.

I tried using an old Xbox 360 controller (GameStop brand), which works perfectly in Windows 7 (installation is a pain, but once the driver knows what to look for the control panel works, everything checks out), works perfectly in Skyrim (although once Skyrim was fixed by modders I never touched it again anyway), but which wouldn't work in DAI. The only possibly explanation I can think of is that DAI is somehow checking specifically for a Microsoft branded controller itself, independent of the OS/Driver. Makes no sense really, but I have no other way to explain how a controller recognized by the OS, function in the built-in diagnostics, and working in another game properly, will fail to work in DAI. Really annoyed me. Not that I want to play with a controller, I don't, but I decided to try it as a stop-gap until Bioware fixes the game.

Just get a wired controller for windows. If you port your game to your tv from the pc, like I do for Skyrim, then get a extended usb cord for the wired controller. From what I read on the threads here, people who have the 360 are having problems, whereas people with the one are not. I do not know how true that is. I have an xbox one, and there were major issues with the game disk itself, and I finally went to the digital download, and have had no problems at all. You can purchase the digital download from xbox live for either the 360 or the one, but do not get the hard copy. Amazon is replacing mine for the second time, yet the digital is great. I got the deluxe edition.

If playing the game on the pc, use the wired controller for windows will play almost any game that supports using a controller. I use a 25 foot usb extension that goes from the back of the pc to where I sit and the wired controller is hooked there, while I play using the tv as the monitor, connected to the pc via a 25 foot high def hdmi cord.

Hope that helps.

I use to use the emulator too with a PS3 controller posing as an XBox controller, but you can get an XBox brand controller for $25 so it was worth just purchasing it for me because the emulator sometimes caused my laptop to blue screen.

Of course it works. Microsoft released the driver back in May/June. I bought it and a cable, the "PC" version controller is the exact same one only it comes with the cable.

I just played using a controller for the first time; it made looting and navigation so much easier! Now, can someone please tell me what to do when my mini map glows? With keyboard I hit "v" but I'm past any kind of tutorial hint in the game to tell me what to press on the controller.

Press the left analog stick, if you're talking about the special item radar ping.

No problem.  Thanks for pointing out that the mini-map glows.  Somehow I never noticed that, just randomly searching every 10 to 15 seconds.
