I don't know about you people. But I can't figure out a way to legitimately kill dragons without any healers. Glitching and exploiting don't count. Limited amount of healing potion and stupid AIs aren't enough to kill dragons. In fact only character that lasts long enough to actually damage the dragon is controlled by players. Even then death is inevitable without healing! So How in the hell do you expect players to kill dragons Bioware? How?!

What level are your characters?  The dragons are far from "unkillable" in my experience.

See my post here.

It only covers the Hinterlands dragon at this time, however a lot of the Dragons share abilities and phases. Hopefully it can help you out.

FYI, no exploits were used in the making of this guide.

I killed the Hinterlands dragon at level 12 as Rift mage (with fire skills which were pretty useless) with Dorian spamming barrier and winters chill (all his other attcks were fire as well), Cass tanking and Varric dpsing. Cass powered by the AI is pretty nutty in terms of keeping herself alive while keeping agro. The only times I had deaths was when Varric or Dorian just stood in front of the dragon's face and ate a full fire breath. Still, theres more than enough time to raise them when the dragon took off. With regen potions for everyone its pretty straightforward (I used maybe one or two each char and 6 of my 8 healing potions).

Have only fought the Dragon in Hinterlands till now. Cassandra and my Inquisitor are tanks and took Solas and Dorian with me to keep them barrier up. They are far from unkillable. You just need to go into tactical view and take more control of the fight. Depending on the AI is probably not advisable. Also, regeneration potions helps a great deal.

Sort of a tip, When the dragon takes off or when you need your party members to follow you to a defensive position, you can issue the disengage command and they will all follow where ever you run to without standing there waiting to be stomped by the dragon.

Killed all Dragons on Nightmare solo as Knight Enchanter...

I think it's impossible to kill a Nightmare dragon with a group and without Knight Enchanter without pausing the fight ever 2 seconds.

The AI of the group members are too dumb, they run close to the dragon, even as caster and get hit by his firebreath or claws.

They never try to get some range to the dragon and because the dragons jump around any second it's a pain to fight him with a group.

I refer you to my post above in this thread, I do not use KE at all during this play through. I understand that it is really good, but I'm not a mage and my RP won't allow me to use Viv that much  :P .

In other words, it's very doable, even on nightmare, without using the most optimal party or extremely good specs. Also just as a TL;DR, I don't use Tac Cam at all. Not because its not a better way to play, it definitely gives you more control. It's more on principle for me.

1 regular tank, 1 regular melee DPS, 1 regular ranged rogue and 1 regular ranged mage on NM. I killed the Hinterland dragon at level 13. One key thing is that all my characters have some form of dodge ability. When the dragon is deciding to ignore taunt and attack my melee DPS, I would control that DPS and roll her out of the way. When the dragon is using her wings, I order the two ranged DPS to quickly Fade Step/Roll into melee range of Dragon to avoid damage. During the fireball phase, I simply taunt the dragon and deflect all the fire balls with Shield Wall on my tank. The adds were too weak to be noticeable. I simply gathered them up at the Dragon and AoEed them down.

I'm level 18 and I've been unable to kill any dragons yet on NORMAL; I must really suck lol. I almost killed the Hinterlands dragon, but it slaughtered my team when it moved to the top of the mountain. I try real time combat but my party members rush the dragon and don't move back. I try using tac cam but my party will not follow my commands, even if I stay in tac cam constantly, they'll eventually move around on their own which is really annoying and makes it difficult to control the battle.

To top it all off, Blackwall seems incapable of holding hate effectively, even while constantly spamming challenge and war cry. Plus the stupid wing flapping AOE usually wipes out two of my squishies instantly. Not sure wtf I'm doing wrong, never had issues with dragons in the past two games. Any advice? I usually take 1 tank, 1 archer, 2 mages heal/nuke. I've also tried 2 tank & dps, 1 mage, 1 archer.

I barely managed to kill the crestwood dragon with my Serah. But no loot dropped
