<sigh>
After all the problems I had with Mass Effect (1), I promised myself that I wouldn't buy DAO until all the major bugs had been fixed (if ever). Foolishly, I relented and bought the game once Patch 1.02a had been released, thinking, hoping that the game would be okay.
Well, of course, it isn't... I am getting horrible texture tearing which makes the game unplayable after between 15 minutes and an hour or so, which is totally unpredictable... Other people are having huge issues with DLC, crashes etc etc etc.
I will 100% not be buying the expansion pack (well, I can't complete the main game!) and will also not buy Mass Effect 2... :-(
Please BioWare / EA, please fix the problems with your games!!!
At least with BG, BG2, NWN, NWN2 etc, we were guaranteed ongoing development work and regular patches. It seems that since the tie-in with EA, things have gone to pot.
Gutted.
Why did I do it?

I feel your pain. EA should have kept their dirty hands off Bioware, I never had a problem with a Bioware game until now.
I can tell you why you did it, because games are fun, or at least there meant to be......

Texture tearing = sounds like your video card is overheating (not a game problem).

Agree with the above. This game really uses my 800gt hardcore and it tends to overheat on me. I had to download the RivaTuner to turn up the fan speed. For whatever reason the default speed is set at something like 29%. I upped it to 50%. I also added another fan to my PC which seems to keep the temp "lower".
My card has been through some hardcore gaming the past couple of years so I am actually getting a replacement in a couple days. Love the card but the fan in it has started getting this clicking sound which seems to be an issue with this card from reading numerous forums. I went with a Radeon 5850 for a replacement. Got excellent reviews on Newegg.com

DA:O is known to overheat and even damage graphics cards, so even if the card is overheating, the problem could still be with BioWare.

I have been lucky, I've had no problems with DA:O, and it sounds like it's not the games fault right here.

I am hearing that for the first time. Where did you get that from?
Edit: @Judge: I played DA on three different systems and never had problems like that.

Both threads are by me, but the posters have the same problem.
The reason to why you havnt noticed this before, is because you're not a victim.

Yeah, I thought that this was heat related, so I upped my fan speed to 100% and monitored temps... Previously temps were a little high, but nothing too worrying and with fan at 100%, temps were absolutely fne, but I still get huge display problems... Perhaps "texture tearing" isn't the right description... They look more like huge black / coloured triangular polygons, which entirely cover the screen.
All other games are fine (Crysis, Dead Space, L4D, TF2, WoW, UT3, Fallout 3)...
I'll try to post a screenshot shortly...

If my graphics card is overheating only in this game, then it most definitely *is* a game problem...
There should be no reason that this game's graphics engine would push modern cards to overheat more than other, more demanding engines...
