From what has been said, it appears armor value has a direct correlation between with damage mitigated, on a 1 to 1 scale.

So ultimately is the skin worth ~10 more damage per hit?

Hey guys. I did have a question similar to this so I figured I'd throw it in this thread.
I'm not big on skins, I'd rather just have the toughest armor. That said I'm starting to get cautious with what upgrades I put on my armor, and what armor I craft. It feels like just the other day I crafted a Legion Commander's Plate, luckily I think someone confirmed I had to do it to unlock the variants of it.
But should I craft the Ironbound Legion Commander's Plate, or will there be a better one down the line?
Super glad to hear that! I am curious, will you eventually introduce chest's similar to that of Mass Effect 3? By this I mean the ones that would specifically give you higher chances of specific loot, like guns, or new races, or higher chance for super rare? One thing I find very annoying with this multiplayer is you keep getting the same low level junk over and over, it isnt like ME3 multiplayer where once you get a gun to its X varient, you will no longer see them when you open a loot chest.
I won't speak for them but I know that this was the intention of our design team before we even had implemented the store, to have more diverse chests so that you could aim for a particular set of items. I have no idea if any changes to the store / chests will come, however.
Bioware has employees on the boards? WHAT?! I feel like I just saw a unicorn.
No but for real though; thanks for the explanation. Can you give us some details on how big of a difference armor levels actually make in terms of mitigation? If I prefer the default Templar look (which I do) should I just stick with that then because the difference is negligible?
I'm a pretty pretty unicorn! *glitter* ![]()
As other posters in the thread have said there are quantifiable differences in the mitigation that the armors will provide, however the difference is currently pretty small.

lol! Gay Wardens, love it : )
There are online lists of the appearances and stats for all the currently available tiers of armor for each character. You can reference those to see if the armor you're looking to craft will have better stats. We plan to release new armors for characters, but I can't say what their stats will be.

Yeah, I actually made that name way back in the Origins days.
Never thought I'd catch a Bioware employee noticing it.
But I don't want to hijack this thread.
Thank you for the reply. I wont lie I will be dissapointed if that is not implemented, as it is now it is waaay too random, and believe me, even with the specific chests in ME3 multiplayer it took forever to get what you want. It could take ages in this instance,
But alas, I understand you are not responsible for this, all one can do is hope! ![]()
Has anyone unlocked any tier three or tier 4 armors???
This tier 2, level 4 armor I got aint cutting it on the hardest difficulty. I played the hardest difficulty once with my reaver, aint going back there anytime soon unless I really buff up on my gear.
Armors are akin to "skins" you might see in other games. The stat differences will be minimal as the major change is supposed to be visual. They're to make you the prettiest warrior prince(ess) you always knew you could be!

I interpreted Amelia's comment to mean that we shouldn't expect to see big defensive upgrades through armor. That could very well change as time goes on, but I really wouldn't expect that if someone found T3+ armor that it'll offer significantly higher defensive bonuses.
Yeah I do find it odd there is no way to check what your hp and mp/stamina are, and thanks for the heads up on the worth of +hp on kill items.
Speaking of +hp on kill, I think it is the Necromancer and the Elementalist that have an hp/mp restore when they are near a bad guy who dies, does anyone know how far away you can be from the deceased to reap the benefits? I love the idea of hp/mp restore but i dont like the idea of having to be so close up to get it.
Its a very large radius, and it can also get you back to life if you are downed. Maybe the best passive in game, and cumulative with %hp on kill items.

I found assassin lvl 54 armor. The actuall armor it gives is: 0. Has some % on ranged defense.
I didn't test it out. Looks bugged, maybe will make me immortal? xD I did see someone else posted it on best items thread.
So tier 1 is level 3 armor and tier 2 is level 4? And by crafting you can get only lvl 4 armor at the moment?

We have been referring to the inital costume design a character comes with as T1.
The other costume design (not just recolors of T1) are T2. Currently not applicable on Katari and Nechromancer.
Its not a perfect description though, as the T1 recolors have superior stats to its standard version, and the T2 recolors have superior stats to the standard T2 armor.

It's odd that they don't simply start at item level 1 with armors (although I do have a item level 2 armor (no idea how I got it
). Is there anything past level 4/T2, aside from uniques/rares?
T2 is the highest armor anyone has found as of yet, so its very likely to be best in game currently.
I dont understand how the crafting works. I just crafted the Mortalitasi Raiment (soulbinder) and its purple level 6. Why its purple and so high level?
Great question!
...The correct answer would be no one really knows why...

Currently the Katari and the Necromancer are the only classes that can get tier 3 armor. This is because the default starting armor they have is tier 2, so when they upgrade they go straight to tier 3.

Yep, sorry about that iphan4tic, there are a few armors with visuals not showing up but hang on to the armor we're going to be fixing these in a future patch.

I just found some item level 5 armor for the templar (rare one even), so there are tier 3 armors, dunno about higher, though.

Item level 5 armors are t2 armor. Like I said, the naming system everyone is using isnt perfect. Its not based on stats, simple appearance.
Consider it this way, the original outfit and recolors are T1.
The secondary outfit and recolors are T2,

Ah, so that's why my necromancer keeps randomly getting up after being killed!
I am suspicious that armors occupy the same rare loot category as purple items, so I'm just crafting them all for the hell of it. Only use the silk though, not the brocades, plaid-weave, or cotton.
I keep wondering if preview will work in MP. And, if it matters what color material we use, but I guess not.
Nope. Material used in crafting has no bearing on the armor created.
