Corypheus is a racist.

This is mostly my take on what he said.

Given that we treat everything he says with such reverence because of his unique relationship to DA cannon (also that magic can do ANYTHING) I first thought that the Qunari were literally MADE through magical means. This doesn't need to be the case. Could be he's just super racist.

*shrug* not enough info ATM. I'm leaning toward racist.

I kind of wish corypheus wasn't a villain.I was hoping he would be more like the architect.Confused and despondent, trying to find a new way to live having seen what hubris can bring you.He would be a lore gold mine.

I`d still off him. Bioware would retcon him soon enough. :P :P

Hmm the line i got from kieran when you first talk to morrigan at skyhold (OGB world state) because i chose the top one was "I'm sorry for what happened to your people."

Then there is the line as the final battle that the OP mentioned as well that only my Qunari got. My elf didn't get that line. Plus the dialogue with iron bull concerning the Kossith and rumours of dragon blood. So yeah something happened. Dragon blood race, magical/biological engineered race.

As for the elf comment when fighting coryfish, it went along the lines of him calling your race a rat race that ran when he/tevinter arrived (in arathlan i think).

Cory did talk to an old god who was an elven god.  What if Dumat told him the other races origins.

what i found so far is Corypheus said somethign diferent depending on your race. my elf inquisitor found out that his mark is the mark of slavery, and what we discover trow the game is the Elven god are more like masters to elves that god.

a popular theory is that one of the elven god create the Quanari combining Dragon/elve blood, to Fight Tavinter, that why till this day they keep fighting. Also i will be really interesting to know what Corypheus said if you are a Dwarf or human inquisitor during the last fight.

For non-mage humans, he calls you a Soporati reaching above your station. The mage version has something about feeble magics.

You know what Corypheus needed in this game a talk with protagonist and not just a normal talk a super special awesome talk.
21 QUESTIONS
Look Corypheus is suffering from a being boring. Then turns slightly boring with the memory crystals. We needed more time with Corypheus the character not the villain, like Loghain. If you take in Loghain as companion you learn more about him and his intentions. They attempted to make Corypheus a alright character but he had a lot of potential and it was wasted.

Interesting to know this, since I didn't finish the game with my Qunari mage. I wonder if this will go anywhere.

I always assumed that the Kossith people before the Qunari made them as soldiers/slaves maybe using blood magic and the blood of dragons (in the same way the salerians helped the krogans). Why they did i guess will be a story for another time.

yeah, the place i read the theory, said that a Elven god grab the Kossith and fuse it with Elven and dragon blood, creating the Quanari. this was bc the Elven where engage on a civil war, so they coundnt defend from Tavinter. Since we found out on the Temple of Mythal that it was true that the elves destroy deself and Tavinter didnt have much on the fall of the elven nation

I just think the race is a mistake, for being one of DG's few bad ideas (just my opinion). I could do without exploring their lore, but I'm sure we'll get it one day. He was tasked with building a standard fantasy setting (elves, dwarves, etc), but included this one new addition. And they don't offer anything to me except acting as a threat. I don't feel like I'm interacting with a rich culture, but a monster race. Like some Borg like behemoth. Even Orcs in other settings come off more benign. The Qunari in DAI are better, but they don't really have anything going for them except appearances either. It's just shallow.. like a different looking human. There's nothing to explore about that either.

Wrong. The qunari have a very deep race. Added to the fact they have a connect to dragons, their religion, and any vithosth struggle with identity out side the qun make them a very interesting race.

Short answer: The devs hadn't though of it yet.

Or Sten just doesn't hold much stock in that belief. It might be more of a Ben-Hassrith thing.

The devs probably had thought about it. Going by some of the stuff that was talked about in the early stages before DA:O was released, at some point along the way the Qunari were planned to be quite a bit more Dragon-like than they ended up

I don't see anyone struggling as a Vashoth. Not yet at least. What I mostly see is people playing this race for the "motherfucking horns". It's like the DA equivalent of Brock Lesnar fans.

It's also a bad introduction for a playable Qunari. New players don't learn anything substantial. You don't to get live the Vashoth experience. You play a person fixing Chantry issues and going to ballroom dances.

*adds gas to the flame*

There is a lot of real-world religious disidentification in the writing of Dragon Age, particularly in Inquisition. Dragons seem very much like vessels for, or offshoots of, God-like figures. Given the obvious transfiguring of Christian/Greek mythology, I've been assuming that the Qunari and their ancestor race, the Kossith, or relateable to the mythology of the Nephilim/Titans. When Cory mentioned them being 'a mistake', I felt my assumptions validated.

Edit: for those unfamiliar, the tales of Nephilim/Titans being the inspiration for Qunari seems especially true considering both the former and the latter had to be removed from society and/or killed off because their instinct was to conquer the rest of the world

I can maybe see the proto Qunari as Elves who dranked and ancient dragon blood and maybe even worshipped them. I guess somewhere along the line when dragons became rare they selectively bred those with dragon blood and after many generations of breeding they  ended up looking like what we see now.

Qunari do have pointed ears like elves. Also, dragon blood will remain strong no matter how "diluted" it gets ala Calenhad's bloodline.

Suppose this has been mentioned.  The Mosaic for Sacrifice plays well into our suspicions re:  Qunari and the Kossith.  I'm hoping this plays into DA4.

Then you need to play as one. My qunari made clear she had issues being a Vashoth in a human dominant world. Being call an ox and a pet at ball in Orlais made it very clear. In da2 in the codex it made it clear tal-vashoth and vashoth had a hard time with human due to the qunari up rising in kirkwall. People were actually hunting them down in the codex of da2 after the upring was put down. Added, there war table missions dealing with the quanri inquises merc band that shows this. The first mission was about saving a former companion who was capture by a noble be tortured.  The last background mission for the qunari  inquis has 4 of her merc band kill due to  an uprising due to fear of the qunari inquisitor. The roleplaying is done in game.

The only answer to that quote starts with an "F" and ends with a "U". Also to punch him in the face a few times and then some more.

My qunari quis was a reaver so...

They should have gone with something less cow like when it came to the Qunari. Someone must have been thinking Tauren from Warcraft when they came up with the current Qunari appearance, minus the hooves. Must have some weirdo anthro fans in the art department.

Actually they kind of look like some horned wildlife and an elf got into an auto accident...and the result is what you see now.

Fair enough. I'm not telling you what to enjoy.. just so you know. It's just not going to work for me. I might be more open in another game. I don't know. Probably a lot more potential for Vashoth storytelling if they move the series up north.
